I still doubt Sony will implement an "azure cloud" systemwide DRM solution. Even though the result will be the same to the end user, Sony can at least blame EA/Activision for it.

Also, smaller publishers can't afford or won't want to pony up for their own DRM servers.

I can't see Sony & Nintendo ever blocking used games just because they'd lose Japan entirely since the entire ecosystem revolves around selling games a week later and buying them used.  Pretty much no better way to make Japan portables only.

Sony will leave it up to the publishers.  At that point, we can count on at least the three shithead companies behind all of this locking their shit down (so that's EA, Activision, and Ubisoft), and I expect Capcom at least will join in from Japan side.  Square Enix will probably give it a try, too.

I wonder whether anyone will boycott any of the companies behind it (and it's safe to assume the worst corporation in America 198 years running is behind this)?

Not being able to borrow games from friends doesn't seem like a big deal.  I'd image not many adult gamers borrow or loan games regularly. 

Killing off rentals is a major dick move especially since SP games are so much shorter nowadays. 

Maybe rental companies would have special discs that can be used multiple times without hassle?  MS could make more money from rentals while not offending customers at the same time.

That's probably the case. I dunno, James just came off as genuine and a cool dude.
