Donkey Kong U looked pretty good despite being more of the same. Clearly not a system seller.

Bayonetta 2's combat concerned me a bit. Look at all of her attacks - huge arcs and sweeps that cover nearly the whole screen, and her finishers are enormous. Even against apparent non-boss enemies she's got weaves everywhere. Looks like they might have gone the casual/mash route. Not surprising, but if so I'm not going to bother playing it.

Wonderful 101 I'm not feeling it much. Maybe because I'm not used to using a touch gamepad for anything.

And those are the only 3 Wii U games I even care enough to comment on. No price drop. Guess I'm not getting a Wii U anytime soon, if ever. 3DS is plenty enough Nintendo for me anyways, I guess. I barely played through the Wii library as is.

No pricedrop?

What is Nintendo's strategy???

Release lots of iterations in franchises that have failed to bring us success in the last 2 years.

Iwata's strapping himself in to that ejector seat for next years financial results. None of this is going to improve things enough.

The scary thing is that it takes nintendo like 2 years to switch consoles, so even if they try to get out another console in three years we are still going to see a dead year of no wii u stuff and a dead opening year for the new console They might be able to aim a zelda or mario for both like TP, but the time line for their heavy hitters is fucked.

My assumption is that there will be a price drop by Fall, but perhaps they were hoping to hold off as long as possible and not kill off what little sales they're getting right now by signalling to people that a price drop is coming around September. Personally, I think they should have announced a price drop effective immediately, but we'll see what happens.

Is Bayonetta a system seller to fans of the series? I've heard a couple folks say they're getting a WiiU just for it, but overall reactions to it/WiiU in general are pretty stale.

Yesterday you would have thought that only Sony and MS existed. Geoff  kept saying "we'll be interviewing Reggie tomorrow about all the Nintendo stuff" yet it just felt like nobody cared lol. What a fuck up.

I can imagine lots of wining and dining goes on during E3 between various developers and publishers. Can anyone imagine Nintendo wining or dining...anyone?

I didn't even want Galaxy 3.  I wanted what Galaxy was to Sunshine, or Sunshine was to Mario 64.  And this is Nintendo's first new hardware in over a decade.  Do something you couldn't do before, like steal the open world from Jak and Daxter.  Instead of levels, there's just one giant seamless world with a natural progression between areas.  OK, that's dumb, but Nintendo (allegedly) has creative people to figure it out.

The line of thinking was probably "New Super Mario Bros games sell more than the 3D Marios.  Let's make 3D Mario more like New Super Mario Bros!"

Where Iwata seems most different to Yamauchi is that he seems to respond to mega sales successes with bankrolling more of the same without adding too much that is immediately and obviously, new.

Wii Sports > Wii Sports Resort
NSMB > multiple iterations
3D Land > more
Art Academy > more
Brain Training > more
Mario Kart > more

He's getting exactly what he deserves for not being truer to their history of changing it up each time

Who knows. Nintendo could announce it at another Direct in three weeks for shits and giggles.

Hell this ND would have probably gone over much better had they not announced 90% of the shit in old Directs. Bayo 2, WW HD, and Smash Wii U/3DS could have easily been held back until now.

Wow, no Galaxy 3...jesus wtf clusterfuck must be going on over there with HD development.

3d Land was great.  Probably my favorite Mario since Galaxy 1.  But...I don't want it on a console.  I know tablet and all, but what made 3d land good was the short fun stages you can play in 1-2 mins while waiting in line or on a train or whereever with your 3ds.  It also was one of the few games that really looked nice in 3d and benefited a lot from it.

Whenever I get a Wii U I'm more interested in NSMB U than this.  This just seems so...unnecessary.

Where is Nintendo's 1 big first party game with fancy visuals to move the system?  Galaxy was and is still impressive as hell in art design and graphics (for Wii).  No big epic console generation starting Mario game, no sign of Zelda (not that anyone should care about Zelda after the DS games and Skyward Sword), no Metroid...I guess Mario Kart & Smash are their big visual treats?

That makes sense with the exception that they still make money on HW sales and so it might be better in terms of short term stock holder view to keep the price up, even if it's a shoot in the foot later on.  They have been hurting since the last two years of wii.
