E-Cigarettes
« on: July 01, 2013, 09:45:44 AM »
Anyone use these? My neighbor uses one, and says it's helping him quit smoking. He's down to the lowest amount of nicotine per cartridge, and expects to be totally done in a couple of weeks. Just looking for some more opinions, as the setup he bought is pretty expensive and I don't want to drop 100+ on something I end up hating and stop using a week later.

I've used one at the local mall to see what I got out of it. Smoking from it is odd at first. It's like trying to drink a really, really, thick milk shake through a really, really thin straw. But when it comes out, it's pretty amazing. Feels pretty authentic but has a weird taste. Then again, they give e-cigs all kinds of flavors and the like. My main worry about them is how healthy they are. Seems weird to inhale something from an electronic device. Then again, they can't be worse than actual cigs.

I have a blu, which I found out after buying is a kinda shitty one. although it does have pina colada lol.

it's ok, I guess...got it mainly to smoke in the office. constant smoke breaks like I'm used to are looked down upon. haven't been smoking regular cigarettes much less, but haven't really been trying to be honest.

apparently the boss ones are these huge, awkward vapes that have hundreds of possible flavors. I think I'd be embarrassed to smoke one in public though, much less my office.

I tried these and they're cool but I just stopped smoking cold turkey. I feel better now. E-Cigs don't have the same back of the throat hit like actual smokes do though so it'll take some adjusting.

camels are b tier, anything other than spirits are b tier or worse.  try this experiment and i promise you'll never go back:  only smoke spirits for the next week or two and then pick up a pack of camels, you'll be able to taste the chemicals, seriously...

right now i'm into these

which are good, some spirits don't have a good taste imo, the blue (regs) and yellow (lights) have a sharp almost sour taste once you get used to some of the usa grown packs like:

which are my favorite pack of cigs ever, harder to find but they're out there

the only regular pack of spirits i'd recommend is the black pack

I've been using an e-cig for almost a year now.  I love it.

The best thing to do is to try and find a shop for it to start out with.  They'll have all sorts of shit you can test out to see how you like it.

This was the brand I started off with originally.  http://www.v2cigs.com/  Their batteries have a lifetime warranty on them, so it makes it pretty nice if something goes wrong.

Now I'm using high-end models like the one your neighbor probably has.  I've probably dropped over $200 into the equipment and another $500 into the juices to go in it, but that pales in comparison to the $1700+ I would have dropped on real cigarettes.  Another benefit of it is that you can pick favors that don't taste like cigarettes, which is nice when you're around family, friends, and the public eye.

My kid doesn't go to school smelling like smoke anymore, and that alone is worth it for me.

What I'm currently using:
http://ivape.net/index.php/tesla.html (Vapor "Mod" or what makes the smoke come out) $100
http://www.halocigs.com/kringles-curse-eliquid.html (e-juice with nicotine, one 30ml bottle lasts me about 2 1/2 weeks) $20
I also use a cartomizer tank with replacement carto inserts.  The tank costs about $10 and will last as long as you want it to, the inserts run about $1-3 and can last up to a week.

So I bought a Blu starter kit because the cigarette store down the block had them on special for $35, and I figured if I hated e-cigs $35 isn't that big a loss. I can move up to the ones that put out clouds of vapor and have huge batteries later on. This came with a charger pack, two batteries, five e-cig cartridges, and a car charger, so not a bad deal at all.

I got the Variety kit, which had tobacco, menthol, cherry, and vanilla cartridges. So far I've only tried the tobacco, and it isn't too bad. Throat hit is kind of like smoking a light cigarette. It's hard to know when to stop "smoking" them, so I'm keeping it to around 7-8 deeper puffs until I learn how much is enough. I still have a pack of regular cigarettes, so I'll probably rotate until those are gone to ease the transition.

It's not bad. Easy to use, replicates the smoking experience reasonably well. I won't really know if it is a complete substitute until I run out of normal cigarettes.

Um bump! So how well does it work? And if you're past the nicotine withdrawal stage but still would like something that can be used on occasion when drunk/bored, how portable are these? Like do you have to be really gentle or carry a charger?

Personally I think cold turkey is the way to go. It sucks, but at least you're not prolonging the habit. I've quit twice cold turkey for a few months but then started again because I realised everyone I know smokes and that well, smoking rules even if it does kill you. Going to quit (hopefully) for good at the end of September.

It works okay. I'm still having trouble with how many puffs are "enough." Too many and you get nauseous, too few and it's not satisfying. I'm still mixing it up between regular cigarettes and this, but I hope to get off regular cigarettes this weekend.

There are some things they don't tell you. You miss the smoke curling off the end of the cigarette, and the whole ritual of lighting it and taking that first drag. So it's not a perfect replica. And you have to take deep drags to get a decent amount of vapor (this is probably not a problem with those bigger and better units). But the vapor hit itself is decent, like smoking a light cigarette.

The starter kit comes with a charging pack, car charger, two batteries, and five cartomizers of varying flavors. You charge the pack itself up (it's a bit smaller than a pack of regular cigarettes), and put one of the batteries into the charging slot. There's room inside the pack for three flavor cartridges, one battery in the charger, and a battery with flavor cartridge attached. You get about 80 puffs before the battery blinks and lets you know it needs to be charged again. The cartridges give you somewhere around 250 puffs, what they say is the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes.

For $35 it's a pretty good buy, I guess.

The one to listen to on this subject is definitely Groogrux.  I also have had quite a bit of experience with e-cigs.

If you are okay with the blus, DON'T try anything higher end. It's going to make the Blus seem pathetic in contrast.

One of my biggest fears is that the FDA is going to step in and regulate e cigarettes more closely in the future. That would basically put the higher end e cigarette manufacturers out of business. Blu is owned by Lorillard (maker of Newport cigarettes) and they will be around until the end of the world because they can afford to package a product up to FDA standards. I just can't go back to blus. Such a shit product.

Yeah, I can't stand Blu's, so that's why I didn't say anything.  If you like them, don't leave them.

Bloodwake is right about the FDA though.  I've been afraid that they're going to step in for a long time now.  However, I think it's just going to be the people that make the e-juices that get hit.  The company I use will probably survive it though, because they're stuff is all laboratory precise and uniform.  No "batches" of a flavor that you'll see from other companies.

My girlfriend is not a big fan of any form of tobacco/nicotine use, so I'm finally on a step-down plan.  I started by stepping down from the 24mg nicotine bottles to the 18mg.  The next steps are 12's, then 6's, then 0's for a while until I'm done with it.

After that, I'll have a high-end vaporizer for sale!

Of course they're gonna regulate it, and do some wonky backend work to get them classified as "tobacco" products. They want their cut, and they consider ecigs a tax dodge. If it jacks up the price to the point where you say fuck it and stick with regular cigs, all the better for them, keeps those tobacco tax $ rolling in. They don't give a fuck whether you die from it or not, as long as they keep getting their slice while you're alive.

I used a Blu starter kit for about two months but I switched completely over to e-cigs. I was at about 6-10 cigarettes a day when I "quit".

Now I'm using this starter kit and filling my own juices.

http://www.madvapes.com/ego-mega-dual-coil-cartomizer-kit.html

I'd suggest giving them the Blu kit and letting them find whether they want to make their own flavor combinations or stick with what Blu sells, as it is just really convenient to use.

For me, it's been about 4 months and I'm at about 1/3 the nicotine concentration of real cigarettes (6mg/mL nicotine right now). The immediate health benefits were that I could breathe and run and have a normal sleep schedule. I did buy a pack of Djarums about a week ago to see if I would get addicted again (to cigarettes not nicotine) as cloves where all I used to smoke, but getting back on the wagon was a breeze.

I think a large part of why it's not a big deal for me to use an e-cigarette versus a real one is that I only smoked for about a year, so it's a little less ingrained into my muscle memory perhaps. My goal is that by New Years, I won't use it everyday. Just when getting stoned or drunk. Not having nicotine with coffee or after a meal is going to be a change though.

Somewhat similar. Most e-cigarettes use a liquid and "cartomizer" to vaporize it, but there's a brand out there that uses these little compressed pellets of tobacco, and I hear converting that to burn weed is pretty easy.

What do you miss about tobacco? Obviously you're missing a bit of the taste, throat hit, visceral feel of a cigarette in your hand.
