Nah, not anymore actually.  I eat chicken and fish weekly, and sometimes pork.  My main problem has always been lack of will to exercise.

I am going to the gym tonight, not lying, I'm scurred

Dude, you're way better off than I am.  I'm literally half a bill away from being anything remotely healthy.  Gotta get my ass in gear.

I'm wondering what CBS will do regarding this.

Patrick "gone". And now Ryan. Will they pressure the team to replace Ryan? It's harsh but the site will most definitely be hurting now.

Was there ever an explanation for this?

He still works for GB. In fact he will probably be doing more content now than before. But he's still "gone". He won't on the live shows, or podcast or any quicklooks for the most part. Now that Ryan is gone too it puts a huge workload on Jeff, Brad and Vinny.

With Vinny being a father I can see him leaving eventually. Jeff will never leave. Brad is iffy. Still, the future of Giantbomb is going to be interesting.

I'm not sure if Ryan Davis was 'professional persona'. You're acting like they have scripts and shit and he's like MJ where he really ACTUALLY has a deep voice but doesn't use it on screen or some shit.

Met Ryan a few times in Tokyo over the years and, yeah, no persona involved - genuinely funny and friendly guy - can't say enough good stuff about him. A terrible loss.

I think it's legit weird to have that effect YOU in such a way.  Like, if you don't know someone personally, you might have some weird thing about co-opting grief.  I feel legit bad... for the guy, for his newlywed wife, for his friends.  I don't feel bad for ME, for not having the guy on podcasts and videos that I would listen to or watch occasionally.  I do feel that I can draw something positive from his passing in that I need to be in better physical shape.

I don't mean it in the way you think I mean it. Also you are not at an age where playing games alot is unusual for your peer age group. Give it another 10 to 15 years and you will be.

Not that its a big deal. I'll always game in some form even when I'm an old man.

I think, as the population of gamers continues to age, they will continue to game. I know I'm probably the oldest guy on this forum, but my college friends are the same age as I am, and most of them are still gaming. I don't see it ending... though I do see myself having to play more games on Normal, or --shudder-- Easy.

Sadly, we'll all be reduced to Temple Runner and Angry Birds variants, mixed in with a few match-threes, and online multiplayer will be reduced to Leaderboard one-upmanship.

Or, hey, on the bright side, there could be a total economic collapse, end of the world, and we can go back to DICE and CARDS! :hyper

Just brutal. Still can't believe it.

I really loved Giant Bomb. Once old school game journalism died they were the only guys who I could follow anymore. It was just a different approach to videogames. It wasn't these wise old nerds telling you to play weird quirky games. It was like jaded dudes my age who felt vaguely embarrassed about still playing videogames so much at this age but still did and had a sense of proportion and humour.

Ryan wasn't a great "journalist" but he was a really great moderator on the bombcast. I almost always skipped the ones he was missing from because they didn't flow right without him.

He will be missed.

I prefer the wise old nerds who tell me to play weird quirky games, personally. Hence why I never got into Giant Bomb. The jaded-ness of a lot of modern day game journalists and their detached hipster irony has really worn thin on me. I'd rather even Halverson's hyperbolic praise and LSD-infused rants over that.

To each his own. I get enough wise old nerds telling me what is what via forums, podcasts, and lots of other avenues. Giant Bomb guys are regular guys without the abject dumbness regular guys often exhibit. I love them and what they do/did.

are you kidding?  my dad has sleep apnea and i thought that only means you wake up not as rested if you didn't use your c pap machine...

Granted he probably weighed at least 90 lbs more than me but this is still a pretty big wake up call, man.

90? jesus he must have been over 400.

try replacing your breakfast with a protein shake, for lunch a V8 with some craisins and almonds/walnuts, then graze throughout the rest of the day, with small as fuck portions of dry tuna or like half a grilled chicken breast.  pepper in some workouts, it sucks to start working out but once you get going you'll want to do it.  what i did when i started was do as many pushups as you can, as many akimbo curls as you can, and as many situps as you can, then hop on a treadmill and go 10 minutes, with the last 1 min going all out sprinting.  then hop in the shower cause you'll be drenched.

working out actually helps you eat right because you have something to equate calories to since most treadmills these days have calorie counters.  it's a hell of a lot harder to eat a slice of pizza knowing that by doing it will negate the hard work you've put in.

Depends on what type of sleep apnea it is, but central sleep apnea can certainly be fatal.  Basically like suffocation.

but when you stopped breathing wouldn't your body automatically snap you back to consciousness?

random thought, but one thing i always found ironic on the podcast was when jeff and ryan would talk about their survivalist hobby they overlooked the most important prep in a preppers arsenal - health.  having a rifle and a camelback backpack stuffed with peanut butter isn't gonna do a damn thing for you if you can't run three blocks let alone be able to fight when you get there.  not to mention when you inevitably run out of insulin/metformin or the plug you use to power up your cpap mask stops working...

You'd think that, but people will go minutes without breathing, even when it's 'just' obstructive sleep apnea, i.e. no air is getting through for whatever reason, but the breathing response is there. Central sleep apnea is different, in that you don't even get the regular breathing impulses and responses. Your brain might want you to start it up again, but it's just not happening.

We all probably expected it judging by the size of the bloke and how much he drank. But god damn when it finally happens it's so out of the blue, and on his honeymoon as well, devastating, absolutely devastating.

It's weird, never met the guy and my stomach churned when i read about it.

anyways central apnea sounds scary.  and on his honeymoon? really? fuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I think not feeling anything when a celebrity dies is probably healthy. Not buying into the cult of personality is a good thing.

That said, when Iain Banks passed recently, I felt really overwhelmed. But that was a loss of an author who was too young to be taken, had many more books in him to write, and the idea that we'd be robbed of those works, and he of the chance to write them still gets me.

Most of the GB fanbase is probably too young to have experience a lot of death so far. Maybe a grandparent? I'm not surprised it hits some of them hard. I'm feeling pretty numb today. I was stressing about work stuff yesterday and took a break to read gaf and saw the news. It really puts stuff in perspective. Only 3 years older than me - Makes you wonder why you would even worry about work shit :(

I don't think it's too weird to feel a personal connection with a guy you've been listening shoot the shit w/ his bros for 3+ hours a week for years (not counting all the subscriber content).

That's not necessarily the problem, it's the grief vultures swooping in and engaging in a who-can-write-the-most-overwrought-post game of one-upsmanship. That and the typical gaf lack of perspective and self-awareness...

There's definitely an intimacy you develop with people that you listen to. Whether its a podcast, radio talk show or whatever.  It's why people like Stern, Opie and Anthony, Limbaugh have such devoted (rabid) fans.

Even though the host is  carrying on a one-sided conversation, the listener feels like they are there with them.

i'm going to try my best not to be judgemental here, but there's something about statements like: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=69185196 which makes me break out in sincerity hives.

i'm sure he was a good dude and it's certainly bad form to shit-talk someone days after they snuffed it, but veering over in to extreme sanctimony completely whitewashes any humanity from the person i remember. this isn't just an internet thing and not something i'd ever call someone out directly on, but i'd like to believe that ultra sanitised reverence for the deceased is something that shouldn't be expected.

I stopped being able to sleep more than an hour at a time. I didn't wake up gasping for breath like you sometimes hear about, I would just wake up for seemingly no reason. At first it was like 2 or 3 times a night, but over the course of a few months it became like 5 or 6 times a night, and I was like "yo this ain't right".  I had a sleep study done and the nurse woke me up after an hour and told me she was putting me on a CPAP right then because she was afraid to let me sleep through the night. The doctor checked out my results the next day and was like "Well, it's not the worst case of sleep apnea I've ever seen, but it's up there."

I have mild apnea. I have a CPAP machine that I hardly use, but I'm waiting for a new breather. My brother in law does use it everyday and has a more severe case. It's not caused by weight, as both of us are about hte same size (5'10ish and 150-170 lbs).

I do believe weight can make it worse.

I'm up like 20 lbs over the past 6 months. wedding + moving = stress and food

Yeah man, any time you go through an upheaval in your routine it's gotta be easier to slide back into comfort foods and general laziness to cope.

I am BEAT.  Not only have I gone on long walks the past couple days and beat the shit out of my heavy punching bag, I moved a bunch of heavy furniture and shit around for my mother.  I just want to sleep, but gotta work tonight.

My thing is that I go to sleep and I'll sometimes I'll just wake up gasping. It's not like I'm out of breath or anything. I can get a good nights rest though. It mostly happens if I go to bed really late. Still, it'd be smart to get tested.
