I think that if you want to do a proper analysis you can't just look at the ecosystem of the console but the ecosystem of the planet. Taking this into consideration the fact that the Wii U uses less power relative to other consoles of its generation is a huge factor. That means you can get away without needing coal, oil, gas, nuclear, etc. So when you wrap up all of the variables the Wii U actually provides more gaming bang per green energy watt especially as more and more landmark titles come out built specifically for the efficiency of the system.

And most importantly the Wii U does so in a much more fair and sustainable way than any other console in history.

SNES is legendary, don't get me wrong... but PSX takes this one. Damn near every game we play these days is still iterating on ideas from games on this system. Sony's swagger was absolutely delicious.

early 3d was ick, especially on the psx

Tiny rooms, faux 3d with 2d gameplay =/ (Shit, the SNES even did that better.)

Gran Turismo was awesome doe and some of the PSX 2d stuff.

I honestly felt the PS2 was way better than the PSX.

nes:2d::ps1:3d

both were revolutionary but crude as fuck with ideas that wouldnt be refined and perfected til the next generation.  ps1 felt like 5 years of edging til i could finally bust my nut on some quality (i.e. fast loading, non-sluggish gameplay, good graphics, skippable cutscenes, better use of tacked-on rpg bullshit) 3d gaming.

snes is the clear winner with 2d masterpieces that were unrivaled until recently.

But the 360's best exclusives came out in 2008-2011 ??? (plus one in 2013)

I'm not sure why exclusives matter, anyway. Do games stop existing when they're available on more than one platform?

Exclusives matter because they make the system unique in its software. And software is what makes a system.

I can go along with xbox 360 being the best console ever, ONLY if they're talking about xbla, which was an amazing service this generation. It's like, if MGS2, FFX, ico, Klonoa 2, Devil May Cry, Crimson Tears, and all of those amazing games that came out for that system in 2001 were released on xbox and gamecube at the same time and someone saying ps2 is the best system ever. It makes no sense to me. By virtue of the fact its biggest standout games are on other systems, makes it automatically NOT the best system. But ps2 goes deeper and deeper, you've got something for EVERYONE on that system, with games you can ONLY get on the playstation 2. Xbox 360 does not have something for everyone, by a long shot. I can understand the position if you have specific tastes - and you certainly do - but that's it.

Xbox 360 has something for everyone if you have a limited game palette, sure. And I don't mean that as an insult. I know with Oscar for instance, he most likely doesn't find much appeal in 360 at all going by our private talks and his own opinion on modern games.

I'm not seeing that much of an improvement. Playstation easily had the better 2d shooters, for instance. Gradius Gaiden, Raystorm and its sequel, G-Darius, Einhander, R-Type Delta.

Playstation had better fighters: Marvel vs Capcom, Rival Schools, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Tekken 2, Street Fighter Alpha's, Soul Blade, Tobal;etc.

Mega Man X4 > Mega Man X1 and X2, not to mention Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, and Tron Bonne.

Playstation had better racing games: Wipeout XL, Ridge Racer series, Jet Moto, Sled Storm, Crash Team Racing.

The only genres where this is even debatable are platformers and rpgs, and playstation saw more experimental and flat out ballsy games of the latter that had more scope and vision, and for the former it was no slouch either.

Add in genres that weren't even possible on the snes, and you've got it in the bag. Games like Intelligent Qube, Devil Dice, Mr. Domino, Bushido Blade, Ore no Ryouri, Ape Escape, Omega Boost, Ghost in the Shell.

The snes, for the most part, reiterated games and genres already on the nes. The playstation made entire new genres (Parappa the Rapper, Armored Core, Ore no Ryouri) and when it didn't do that, it brought a new way to play old ones due to new technology.

Mega man x4 allows you to play as Zero and X with their own game play styles. Zero uses Street Fighter commands to do abilities, namely Ken and Ryu's moveset, X is traditional MM. MMX4 is great because of this dynamic as well as the level design and boss fights. The end result is that because the two play so differently, it feels like two different games with completely different approaches in playstyle. The way you play with X is totally different from how you play with Zero.

The boss fights are also utterly amazing. It is when Mega Man boss fights started to get elaborate in their patterns, this expanded into what would be seen in the Zero series for example.
