now imagine i make a counterpost where i post super mario, actraiser, street fighter 2, yoshis island, mario kart, super metroid, demons crest, final fight, pocky&rocky, final fantasy 4-6, super ghouls & ghosts, soul blazer trilogy, earthbound, contra 3, link to the past, chrono trigger, demons crest, gradius 3, castlevania 4, ogre battle, mega man x & x2, lufia 1&2, clock tower, mystical ninja, starfox, secret of mana, zombies ate my neighbors, turtles in time, etc
I'm not seeing that much of an improvement. Playstation easily had the better 2d shooters, for instance. Gradius Gaiden, Raystorm and its sequel, G-Darius, Einhander, R-Type Delta.
Playstation had better fighters: Marvel vs Capcom, Rival Schools, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Tekken 2, Street Fighter Alpha's, Soul Blade, Tobal;etc.
Mega Man X4 > Mega Man X1 and X2, not to mention Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, and Tron Bonne.
Playstation had better racing games: Wipeout XL, Ridge Racer series, Jet Moto, Sled Storm, Crash Team Racing.
The only genres where this is even debatable are platformers and rpgs, and playstation saw more experimental and flat out ballsy games of the latter that had more scope and vision, and for the former it was no slouch either.
Add in genres that weren't even possible on the snes, and you've got it in the bag. Games like Intelligent Qube, Devil Dice, Mr. Domino, Bushido Blade, Ore no Ryouri, Ape Escape, Omega Boost, Ghost in the Shell.
The snes, for the most part, reiterated games and genres already on the nes. The playstation made entire new genres (Parappa the Rapper, Armored Core, Ore no Ryouri) and when it didn't do that, it brought a new way to play old ones due to new technology.
