Went to Chuys last night and I have no clue how places like that are popular: stale rice, burrito is nothing but beans and a little meat in it. How terribly mediocre. Why are they popular? They're shit. I can get the appeal of McDonalds because at least they use more than two ingredients on their burgers.

It has been a while since I've had Cali Mex but I reckon it sucks balls as well. Then again, it does have more fresh ingredients than Tex Mex, which automatically makes it better.

I have no issue if a place isn't "real" Mexican. I've had my share of "real" Mexican. It isn't always a guarantee for quality. My main concern is taste. Let me get this out of the way, I'm not that picky when it comes to food. But I'd rather eat Taco Bell than many of the options parading as Tex Mex.

Plenty of Americanized and authentic Mexican food in Los Angeles and they're pretty much crap compared to other stuff I can easily find in the city

That chart is pretty wrong. Real Mexican also uses sour cream and has big burritos. And real Mexican uses flour tortillas too. Refried beans with lard is also a Mexican thing.

the easiest way to tell if you're eating Tex mex is to order a beef taco and see if it has ground beef. If it does, its Tex mex.

I've eaten real Mexican food before at packing plant towns. It's a lot better than anything they serve at Taco Bell. Also I get a shitload of food there for cheap.

I've only had Chuy's once in my life while visiting Orlando. Seemed okay to me. At least they tried new recipes instead of dishing out the same 10 things.

It wasn't as good as most of the local restaurants I went to in San Diego, but it was better than the hole in the wall mexican places I have in Ohio.
