Why didn't they just make this a real game instead of the XIII trilogy that we actually got?

Better question is: Why play FF13/13-2 when this is out there to condense them down? :lol

I'm guessing this mainly exists as a promotional tool for Lightning Returns to get people up to speed/recap and they figure anyone who's gonna play XIII 1 and 2 has probably already done so by now.

Well the recap confirms one thing, the story is shit.  Where are the super villains like Kefka and Sephiroth?  Now we only have the villains we can "relate" to.

This video actually skips a whole bunch. It gets to the point, I suppose, but I wouldnt consider it a good "refresher"

Pretty sure you can't relate to a space pope, though. I think some of that FF13 stuff was retconned, but who gives a shit now.

At least they're finally using these sprites, I guess:

You probably meant XIII, but I'd be all over playing XII on an iPhone :drool

Awesome pixel/animation/event direction work, but it's disappointing they used a random mishmash of 8-bit and 16-bit-ish arrangements (recycled already existing ones I'm guessing?) for the music instead of arranging everything in a consistent late 16-bit style to match the graphics.

Couple other notes:

* Mode 7 flight scene :o
* This video reminds me of how irritated I was at the time with "Final Fantasy III" going back to setting all the character names in ALL CAPS. Even if you changed their names back to title case it would still prefix NPC utterances with their name set in caps like "KEFKA: Uwee hee hee!" while your PCs would use the string set exactly how you entered it, making it annoyingly inconsistent, grrrrrr

AND ANOTHER THING, while this is clearly closely based on FF6 and its FF3 SNES localization specifically (not just a generic "16-bit" style), it errs in using the monospaced font everywhere where FF3SNES only used that font in battles and menu screens and used a proportional font for dialog boxes on the field / field events. I only nitpick because this is otherwise so perfect that the mistakes GLARE like a sore windowshade

the girl dying over and over is symbolic for final fantasy

that is brilliant, from the transition/splitscreen to the decolorization of each one as a new one comes in, to the way each new one is sped up a bit from the last. would really like to know who event-directed this thing.
