BitSummit in Kyoto
« on: March 07, 2014, 02:04:37 AM »
I'm heading out now; I'll post pics of any Boritos on-site who are encountered.

My company's just starting off, so I'm going on Public Days, Saturday and Sunday. (I'm only there Saturday)

The Behemoth is presenting or sponsoring the event. I am waffling on taking my Alien Hominid figure set for them to sign. I think I'll just take the Hominid!

Sho-Nuff is sho-ing off Galak-Z there.

What else should I be looking at while I'm here?

I'll ask since we're all thinking it: Is this some kind of bitcoin convention?

I would LOVE any 17-bit merch (ie. L size t-shirt) you can get. Tell Sho it's for the Sceneman and see if bore discount is available. Will reimburse accordingly  :-*  (can buy you shit off Play Asia or something)

If you meet Tom Fulp of Behemoth and Newgrounds fame tell him to play Party Quest and how happy it made me to get my dogshit game onto his service to warm reception. A tall order I know. He is one of my idols

Fangamer.net does all of our t-shirts and we instantly sold out of the first run of Galak-Z shirts -- I will holler when the second batch is in stock.

Show opened at 12:00 and I had to leave at 15:00; I didn't get to everything I wanted. Behemoth dudes weren't there when the doors opened, so I wasn't able to get my AH figures signed. I did buy a great Castle Crashers figure!

I picked up a Brave Wave compilation LP with music by J-RPG composers and Eirik Suhrke, the composer of Spelunky's and some of Hotline Miami's music.

Stratolith looked good, but the guy showing the game was intently busy with someone, so I had to sidle on by.

Mighty No. 9 was not shown, and GunVolt may have been available, but I didn't see it.

I had my first Oculus experience with Modern Zombie Taxi Driver. It was surprising for a number of reasons: it was running without a hitch on a recent iMac, the Oculus model they had were low-res, head movement was natural without needed actual 1-to-1 angle matching, and I still got pretty ill after only 3 minutes or so of playing. It felt really immersive, right up until I clawed the headset off to avoid spewing. The dev said production model Oculi will have OLED displays which will only show the actual, currently-positionally-valid frame, avoiding lag, and reducing motion sickness. I am happy to hear it.

Sho Nuff's Galak-Z is a beautiful, fun game and I will buy a PS Vita to play it (it would die on my PC). People really seemed to get it after a few minutes and EVERYONE loved the robotech-style missile system. So. Fun.

Modern Zombie Taxi Driver won the best-of-show award. It was really something else!

I was surprised there were so few, smaller PC devs; and there were a LOT of foreigners. Foreigners living and working in Japan. Still -- I thought there would be more local-as-in-non-foreign devs.
