c'mon magoose.  It's the rebirth of King's Field.

Heck, From pumped out KF faster than Souls.

KF1-3 came out in 1994, 1995 and 1996 with KF4 coming out in 2001

DeS came out in 2009, DS1 in late 2011 and DS2 in early 2014

MJEM where did you go!? I haven't seen you post in forever

EDIT: Also people in the GAF/4chan thread keep bringing up King's Field but forget that the Souls games actually share way more DNA with the Shadow Tower series. This game having guns just makes me think of Shadow Tower: Abyss, which also used them. Either way, platform exclusives suck balls. I'm not even considering a PS4 until like three years from now, if that.

Dark Souls formula with random dungeons fixes one of the series biggest problems. I think an element of unpredictability (beyond invasions) would benefit to the series.

PvP in Souls is awful. I blame it on the engine being built for PvE and partially on the fact that From can't balance the magic/melee worth a damn. Just look at the bosses being two-shotted with magic at times. I don't think Deep Down would fix that.

yeah, a concern is that the aesthetic of this isn't wildly different than the Souls series.  otherwise, bring it.

since demon's souls I've been wanting an alien/science fiction themed Souls game that's Giger all over.

No, I heard about this one before last year's E3.  It was supposed to be part of the stuff at Sony's big coming out, among a couple other things that got bumped.

Interesting.

How much things were bumped and have any been offically revealed since then (i assume that cancelled Stig game was one)  :P

Also to answer your second question it might depend on how different this new one is to Demons/Dark Souls before wondering if its worth having both tbh.

Lotta things got bumped because Sony was hurting for schedule time and not all third party titles would get the shine like they wanted. Some of the stuff since last E3 have been announced already.

Dark Souls 2 has a hub structure.

Not really. It's a mix of both. But it kinda does both of them badly.

Honestly, the only reason it has a "hub" feel is because of the "touch the demon inside of me"/level up system from Demon's being back. If it was bonfires to level up most people wouldn't have to travel back to the "hub"/Majula to do anything but buy equipment or repair.

No, Majula is very much a hub. The game is made up of streams of levels that end in a boss, all of which extend out from Majula.

How so? Outside of maybe 3 routes, Majula isn't liked to further levels. I guess you can consider that a "hub" but for me, a "hub" is where you have to continuously go back to a la the Nexus like Demon's Souls to get to the next area.

But that's averted in Dark Souls 2 with the bonfire transport being from the get-go instead of late game. You can avoid Majula outside of having to level yourself or repair equipment/buy stuff from vendors. Once you've gone down those three "hub" paths, you near-never have to go back to the "hub," where in Demon's you had to go back to the hub no matter what to go to the next world/area and buy-stuff/level-up.

I guess if your definition of a hub requires it being somewhere you frequently visit, then yeah I guess you're right. There's not much incentive outside of popping in to level up your weapons/character. I just mean that, in terms of the game's structure, Majula is very much where everything branches off of.

The hub in Demon's Souls is more similar to a Mega Man stage selection screen. You pick which world you want to teleport to. Dark Souls introduced seamless integrations of all areas.

There's also some weirdness where you progress in one area, go to another area, then come back to that previous area that's now unlocked.  At least I don't think you could run through the first level without doing the others.  Lots of people seem to prefer Demon's Souls' system.

I like Dark Souls' more but wouldn't mind a return to that.

Dark Souls 2 is a fantastic game, and honestly I'm mixed on this being Miyazaki's next project. When I finished it I was hoping they'd take a little break from this kind of game, but now it appears to be full steam ahead. The console-exclusive bit just makes it even easier to not give a shit.
