yeah that puts you in a really shitty position. I just play it safe and get the new whole-number iPhones when they come out or the year after, so you guys are laggin. I'd say get a 5 or 5S on the cheap but I dunno how bad your technolust will be when the 6 drops later this year.

The 10.10 beta looks so bad. Helvetica Neue in all menus is so dumb. It's not as terrible on a retina screen but it still looks like an autoreplaced font because the original went missing. The only design change I'm ok with so far are the pictograms under the Go menu and the new tick boxes. Hoping for a LOT of changes for the final version.

Anyway, who honestly still cares for new smartphone features? The really useful features all seem to have been implemented by now. Consumers are either used to buy a new iteration every two years or are forced to buy something new, because you either get no upgrades or your smartphone is eventually too slow, which is good for Apple, Google and Samsung. But at least to me there is nothing truely exciting about the new hardware or software (on an os level). I guess most of the features presented here were of interest to developers and not to consumers, but the general point still stands, I don't believe Iphone 6 or the next Google phone will be anything special.

Installed OSX 10.10 DP1 one of our work machines as I wanted our QA plebes to make sure our company's report software will work on the latest version. The software works but damn does the new "minimalistic" look seem ugly on a non-retina screen. I wonder if this means Apple's coming out with retina MBAs this fall?

To be fair, it's not a normative statement. That's just how it is. Once the jump is big enough (and affordable) things hit critical mass and become widespread. Until then, only professionals and enthusiasts will care.
