There's still plenty of good games coming. It's not amazing, but there's nothing wrong with liking console gaming.

This is what I'm talking about. This cynical attitude is annoying.

If you like handheld gaming, then fine. Personally I can't get into what the 3DS offers and the Vita is a cesspool of panty shot games. So handheld gaming is of relative un-interests.

Yes, I could get a PC. I could spend more and spend less on games. But I buy most games I want day one so steam sales are cool, but not a thing for most games I play. At the end of the day, I find it more convenient to play on consoles and that's the way it is.

Mobile gaming does not provide the kind of games I'm looking for. If you like the unique games it supposedly offers or find it's puzzle games more worthwhile then games where you shoot colored people then so be it. No need to  bemoan us who do........................virtually of course.

At the end of the day I'm going to play the Batmans, Uncharteds, Battlefields, and whatever of the world and the console is going to do that fine. There are bound to be a few other gems here and there. No I don't think these games are anything more then popcorn fun, but at the end of the day I'm fine with it. No these days aren't as awesome as the SNES-PS2 days, but nothing is and nowhere will ever be that.

And quite honestly while I haven't played anything that I think is the most amazing thing ever. It's not like I haven't had any quality games to play. I've had plenty and I doubt thats going to stop.

 Old man Drake reminds me of old man Snake and we all know how that turned out. Also the trailer was all dark and gritty. Surly the leads from the Last of US are on a high and think "well thats how you jerk off journalists, dark storytelling". It's actually quite sad that Nintendo has largely avoided mobile(I mean I would to, because I hate art games), because yes thats where a lot of kids play games.

My nieces play Temple Run all the time and I think it's just the damn demo. Same with angry birds and so on. Yet they aren't oblivious to Nintendo, they just aren't that aware of the characters and aren't indoctrinated to care about them. You put like a cheap version of Mario Kart on the phones, they would play the heck out of it and then maybe see the "real version" and then want that. They would at least be actually familiar with the stuff. As a kid I couldn't go to a house without an n64 playing Smash bros, kart, or whatever. I at least know what they are.

I mean yesterday my niece asked me if I had Mario Kart 8 and if it was for a system I own. I told her to shut up and of course I don't have it because Nintendo is trash, but the point is it's not like it didn't look attractive to her. It's just there's no reason for my sister to really buy her a DS or a wii u because at this time the ipad is enough to do the simple thing those things do at her age "kill time".

When she gets older and if she cares about games she'll have no connection to Nintendo and probably buy something else.

I also think this mostly true for her friends. I've been to a few birthday parties and one kid got Assassin's Creed for his bday. Now giving an 8 year old AC is an entire other argument, but if I go back to when I was that age pretty much everyone was given Mario and whatnot because thats what Nintendo was to parents. "Go play Nintendo". Now it's "go play on the ipad". Since Nintendo has no presence there they are missing that audience. Surly they can just throw a cheap Mario Kart game or 2d mario on there and call it a day.

I mean when she asked me about Mario Kart I couldn't even think of a game on the PS3/4/360 I'd want to play with a kid. I could at least think of Smash, Kart, Party, and those mini games from NintendoLand.

But I'd never buy those personally because thier Nintendo games. Come on!

1. Nintendo still gets young people into gaming.
2. That's not their entire role. Their role is being a purely videogame company with gaming interests as a platform provider. Sony and MS are here because they were worried about losing TV/Computer space to gaming companies. Now, they're losing this space to other devices. From that standpoint, Microsoft doesn't have a reason to be in the console industry anymore at this point. They're just here until the money to be had dies up. All three are here until the money goes, but Nintendo is more likely to try to salvage the situation due to it being their only real pursuit as a business. MS and Sony will bow out without needing to salvage the market. Their pursuits have always been media center based anyways, so I'm not at a big loss when they go. As a person who has spent so much time in the hobby, Nintendo persisting is more important than the other two.

Part of getting excited is learning about a game, and thinking one day I can play it. People looking forward for games on consoles they don't own yet is pretty common, I'd say. I mean, we are at the start of a new generation after all.

If I weren't shit with money and prioritising other things I would definitely build a new PC. My brother bought an Xbone, so thankfully I didn't have to spend money on that, and I think I'd rather get a PC before I get a PS4 as well.

So far for me - I'm interested in cuphead and no mans sky. Stuff like Shantae too. In terms of AAA - I think the batmobile functioning as a fucking tank looks fucking distinguished mentally-challenged, but everything else about that looks as I would expect and want - so I'll no doubt get that. I'm interested in the Witcher 3, The Division and Sunset Overdrive, but I shouldn't be coming away from E3 feeling like a Grim Fandango remaster is more exciting than 99% of what was shown. Tomb Raider, Metal Gear, Halo collections, Uncharted et al - fuckin yawn

No Mans Sky blows me away most. I've always wanted a space sim where I can seamlessly fly from planet to planet -- if this shit had a Star Wars or Battlestar license attached I would probably literally be shitting my knickers and crying with joy. Without any license attached it still looks clean and gorgeous, so I'm day zero for that even if it plays like shit.

It's not like PC is going completely unaffected, though. Without bigger budget games there isn't much point in building a gaming rig, because onboard video is going to handle 90% of indie games out there. Shit, you can already play Skyrim at a mixture of low/medium settings on a Surface Pro 2 and get upwards of 40fps in some areas. And you look at the Steam storefront, right now it's awash in $3 and $4 ports of $.99 mobile games.

I like console games fine (and say so on The Cruncheons!). I can trade them in and not have to stare at a regrettably expensive turdpurchase in a digital library forever. Console/PC/Mobile all have their flaws and strong points. It's just a matter of time before they all converge, anyway. Mobile hardware isn't shifting to 64-bit architecture for nothing.
