i know a strong case can be made for wings but please do not forget tony shalhamdullilahoub

but seriously blossom is a worthy vanquisher: the hats, her dad, "whoa."

Fuckin' WINGS is out?!    :anhuld

this is the upset of the century right here

I don't know, Blossom was super white. Wings did have Tony Shaloub. I wouldn't say it was an upset, people are just apathetic about Wings.

That Friends/Mad About You/Blossom side of the bracket is looking ominous.

looking at that bracket again, King of Queens over Frasier is the dumbest upset ever

the former had a supporting black character in just about every episode

Frasier went whole seasons w/o any contact with minorities

I had my husband help me pick for this round. He convinced me to go with Home Improvement over Full House.

His reasoning was that its a house full of random family and friends living there, and the elders all just watch over the kids. He said that immediately knocks them out of the running based on this non-cactivity.

yeah ima be honest, full house is objectively the whitest, no question. but if reiser and co managed to make it to the finals it's possible there could be a debate, since only one of those two shows actually makes me suck my teeth in with irritation, the criterion which has been the undercurrent in all my voting beyond simple melanin inspection.

oscar's case convinced me to put them over the otherwise omnipresent shittiness of friends, but i think all it would take is a single ross gif to make me regret my decision.

Frasier struck this amazing balance between educated humor and pandering to the lowest common denominator. When it was bad, it was pretty much just a Chuck Lorre show with an MA from a liberal arts college. From the episode where Fraiser gets nominated for an award:
Quote
Frasier: You know, I've never really won anything before. Although back in prep school, the Existentialist Club once named me "Most Likely To Be."
If you're a writer, the only reason you put that in there is because you're an asshole.

Not going to lie, you guys have done remarkably well here. Mad about You, Friends and Full House are, without a doubt, the whitest shows in existence. Mad about You and Friends take place in NYC and there are never any minorities, like, at all. Frasier took place in Seattle in the 90s...pretty heavily white populated, so there was an excuse there. Seinfeld featured a minority as one of the four and always had black and Latino guest stars. Friends had like, none and they lived in NYC. Mad about You, same shit, though most of that show revolved around two people in their own house.

I think Full House edges out Friends though. 87 regular cast members and none of them with even a tan.

Full House was all white in San Francisco as well. Friends did have Lauren Tom and Aisha Tyler in guest roles but that's about as diverse as it got.

I think the final 8 is pretty awesome except for Cybil making it through an easy bracket. Really Mad About You should win, it's everything perfect about 90s white sitcoms.

Full House v Home Improvement is really tough. Went with the former due to the nauseating saccharine nature of it but HI is up there too...set in Detroit but I'm pretty sure not a single colored person ever made an appearance in the show's run of several years.

All I watched on TV was sitcoms and cartoons, it's not that tough since I didn't have a life.

Same here. Not sure what started me but I had this unhealthy desire to watch any 90s sitcom that would come on TV when I was in high school or university since I had a lot of free time. I would watch anything once, even shit like Madman of the People or Union Square. Some things like Pearl or Jesse I couldn't handle for more than one episode though.

My favourite was probably M.U.S.C.L.E., which was one of the first shows on the WB. It was a whodunit sitcom set in a gym, and had some awesome people in it (like Michael Boatman and Alan Ruck), and there was an episode that Adam West guest starred. I can never find it anywhere, besides some promo clip on YouTube :'( I think it only lasted 6 episodes.

I'm just saying, before things got beamed from space onto your iDroid phones, we had to watch TV to be entertained. Shows were shit, but it was either that or like, read or something. Full House would never ever be remembered if the internets were around back in those days, I tell you what.

Caught a rerun of friends late last night.

Jennifer Anniston still getting the job after mistakenly believing she was sexually harassed by the interviewer, probably got it over better qualified minorities. The privilege dripping off each scene.

Thinking it over Friends should definitely win this.  Full House at least had the family/kids element going for it that could at least make it a bit more universal.  Friends was about being white and nothing more.
