Tekken 7 Home Version Releases June 2nd, 2017
« on: July 13, 2014, 02:19:09 PM »
Apparently Tekken producer Harada is pretty pissed about this; he was supposed to announce the game at EVO tonight, but tweeted that he's already heading back to Japan.  Could just be a troll though.

Tekken 7 leaked, uses Unreal Engine 4

Bandai Namco fighter set for current gen consoles.

(Image removed from quote.)
Looks like the rumor was true. A leaked IGN News video, published by AOL.com Video ahead of tonight’s official announcement, reveals Tekken 7 will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 and launch for current gen consoles.

“With Unreal Engine 4, we can rapidly achieve the visual quality expected on next-gen platforms and go beyond it,” Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada is quoted as saying in the video. “Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but it allows us to easily bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire.”

Further details were not announced.

Wow. Unreal Engine. Hope that works out for them.

Wonder if Soul Calibur will as well. Last Gen they had thier own engine and it looked pretty damn good.

EDIT:  Ah UE4 is scaleable so even Wii U can use ti apparently.

So it looks like Tekken 7 was meant for Comic Con and the game that went unshown -probably Tekken X Street Fighter- will now be unveiled at Comic Con instead.

Hopefully UE4 is more geared for fighting games, considering all the bullshit MK vs DC had to pull to get UE3 working.

takao means sfxt fucked up so hard txsf had to die too

This was always a dumb idea. Two very similar games (marketing wise) with the exact same target demo, but with completely untransferrable skillsets between them.

that and some of Namco's fighting games bombing, like soul calibur 5.

Then why was this being shown at Evo?  ??? To IGN, no less.  ??? ???

No, it was a good idea. Take a 2D and 3D popular franchise, mash them together. Have 3D characters play on a 2D gameplay style and vice-versa.

The problem is, Capcom shit the bed in trying to bring "casuals" in hardcore. You can have those "gems" in the game, but if you don't have a "gem disabled"/no casual-training wheel mode, you're shooting yourself in the knees for the consumer base that'll play the game for more than an hour (the Evo crowd) to finish you off with a bullet to the head.

It's why TxSF hasn't happened yet: They probably were going to go the same route and saw what happened with SFxT.

MK Vs. DC wasn't even really finished, so that's not exactly the best example to use.  MK and Injustice also use UE3, IIRC.

Why was a sequel to a popular fighting game series announced at the biggest fighting game tournament in the U.S.?  Not sure what you're asking here.

It's why TxSF hasn't happened yet: They probably were going to go the same route and saw what happened with SFxT.

This, although what killed the game was the initial way gems were handled (buy better ones via DLC-- lawl) and then them having all those "DLC" characters on the disc, which they charged a lot for and held back for months before "releasing."  SFxTK did end up pretty good in the end after the 2013 update, but it was too late and Ultra getting the Capcom side content was pretty much the nail in the coffin.

yeah, I was interested in seeing how tekken x street fighter would handle projectiles in 3D space.  I can't think of that many.  off the top of my head there's tech romancer and maybe that hole of mortal kombat games from 4 to 9 that no one talks about.

Tekken already has projectiles and the character Eliza, in Tekken Revolution, was thought to have been a test for how TKxSF would play.  The character is supposed to be more "Capcom like" and has a faster projectile.  I can't confirm that since I wasn't going to spend hours upon hours to unlock her.

The last Mortal Kombat game was surprisingly good. Easily the best one I have played.

Yup.  Best one ever made.

My question is: If you had no intention of showing Tekken 7 at Evo, but at Comic-con and were planning to show Tekken x Street Fighter, why the hell would you bring reels for Tekken 7 to Evo? If Harada had no intentions of showing it, why bring that stuff? Just bring the Tekken x Street Fighter stuff and bam, no leaks.

Harada said on stage that after the leak, they would have to change what was shown and he requested a trailer to show at EVO from the home office.  There wasn't any indication that anything had been brought to show people before that.

I think it's pretty nonsensical, too- just do the PR thing and act like nothing happened, then show the game you intended to.  If it really was meant to TKxSF, people would have dismissed that leak as "bullshit" anyway.

TTT2 is amazeballs. Cleaned up T6's mess and pumped the game with a stupid amount of value. If you're weird like demi though, you might miss the forced beat'em up mode that was front and center in 6. Revolution as far as I can tell is poorly put together F2P game made from the scraps of TTT2.

TTT2 if you're into Tag. (Though you can play it "solo" but if someone has a two person team... gg)

T6 if you're into solo.

Revo if you want a F2P. Revo isn't a complete failure, but infinites and stats (which they THANKFULLY removed from the matchmaking/ranked mode) kinda break it. 99 attack versus 99 health = gg health booster.

How scummy is Revolution's F2P model?

Only scummy for the online mode, but it's supposed to be like "arcades" of old where you quartered up and they give you three online plays per six hours or so so bad but not terrible.

Honestly, it being online only is what kills Revo (and Soul Caliburs F2P but that one is shit for a variety of reasons).

TTT2 is the best Tekken.  It just builds on TK6.  Plus since you're talking about home versions, TTT2 shits all over TK6 and is the better port visually, too, and nobody is going to be playing TK6 online.

Revolution is weird in that it's TTT2 with less characters, no tag, and a more simplistic game play system, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you want a quick fix.  It's worth trying since it's free.  There are some differences in game play compared to all the other Tekkens.  I like the visuals too.

Learn to Tag Crash, that's important. It's Triangle+Tag when the opponent is popped up or grounded.

There's a good TTT2 tutorial video series on the ATP channel that you might find helpful. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMCyLSAjLlQ2hzsXTwVzKv4HR0ouxJNRm

His videos on backdashing are pretty good and worth watching. Movement is the most important part of Tekken but also the hardest to learn to consistantly execute.

I'm doing the tag tutorial now and it's very convoluted. The controls aren't really responding fluidly. I'm doing the tag assault tutorial and the controls make no sense. I hit tag button after launched and it doesn't initiate the tag assault. I'm confused

IIRC tag assault can only be done after a bound move. Don't wait for the bounce on the bound, just do the bound move and hold tag. That should bring in your partner who will do an auto combo. Eventually you can do learn to do custom tag assaults but for now, the auto one is fine.

Yeah mastering the tag crash and assault takes a little practice but it gives you such an advantage it's not even funny.

Some things to remember:
Tag Assault (the quick assist one) automatically gives your main character Rage, which lets them do more damage. Good way to follow up from a bound and get big hits in.

Tag Crash (the quick swap) removes all red life from the person being swapped out, so they can't recover that life while they are off screen. So don't use it all the time.

Tag throws are another good way to get a quick swap and do damage. IIRC there's a universal one in throw+tag but most characters also have unique tag throws that look pretty badass and do more damage.

Depends. I've gotten decent with them, but they do require specific conditions and have precise timing. Is it that they aren't hitting when they come out or that they don't even come out at all?
