Just her (correctly) poining out that laughing at a chinese cave called Wang Dong is racist.

It's not okay to derail a thread with "accusations of racism", but it's okay to off-topic shit post because the word "dong" is in the title.  :snoop I felt ashamed to be a part of the forum as soon as I started to read the responses to that thread, and she was totally on point. GG.

Just spent 20 seconds being disappointed in myself for noting the publishing platform rather than the author of the piece, thus perpetuating the commodification of writers and their exploitation at the hands of Big Content Media. Perhaps I have read one Karakand post too many...

I love how gamers percieve "hardcore" games like Last of Us and Tomb Raider to be more of a great game than something like Paint It Back or Dungelot.

The Last Of Us and Tomb Raider are "hardcore" games now?   :gurl

Quote
I'd love to see them play through a Cave shooter, tbh but then I'm sure they'd rather play The Last of Us.

"Hardcore gamers" would be the ones playing Cave shooters already...on a console.  Maybe you're thinking of the bro gamer types?

I played several Cave ports on mobile and you know what? They are definitely 'mobile gaming done right' - no IAP just a (reasonable) flat rate, controls that were effectively re-done for the touch screen, no real compromise in terms of graphics and music... but I still prefer the 360 versions due to their tactile controls. I've fought this argument many times before and I have no reason to start it again, though... but mobile gamers need to stop with their "it controls just fine!", "the IAP isn't thaaaat bad...", "there's a whole ton of great games it's just the press doesn't cover them because they are biased toward AAA!", etc. Some of us have played a few mobile games before, have seem what else is out there, and came away mostly unimpressed. I'm hoping the situation with mobile gaming will get better in time, and more meatier, unique, premium priced games emerge... but for now at least with me I can ignore it and not feel like I'm missing anything.

This is exactly how I feel about mobile gaming.  Would love to play more games, but can't stand touch screen controls.  Don't want to shell out for the ridiculously-priced controllers, especially when not everything supports them and with phone designs changing all the time, some models wouldn't even fit the phones.

Would love to see Apple come out with an official controller, or better yet, a "gaming case" that essentially works like a PSP Go, allowing you to keep the phone's form factor, albeit with a thicker width.

Growing up obscure RPGs like linkle liver story (shit), Valis and or hard ones like phantasy star and games like rygar, ninja gaiden, shinobi were 'hardcore'.  the block buster bros and sports people were pretty much the scum of the gaming earth then :hitler

lol as someone who grew up in the DOS era of pc gaming, I just chuckle when I see console dudes prattle on about being 'hardcore', when consoles were made for rubes who didn't want to deal with interrupts, installs, or writing game-specific .bat startup files.

Really, those are the type of dudes that pretty much measure the value of a game based on it's marketing budget. Their lives might revolve around videogames but their taste is neither refined or elite in any way.

I wonder how these dudes feel about the latest bayformers or childhood-raping turtles movie, when those are about as well  written as or slightly better than most AAA games. :heh

Magic: the Gathering is a casual game now, they actively design it to cater to the lowest common denominator, and they make mucho dinero for doing it, so idk how Hearthstone isn't also a casual game.

The definition of 'casual' gets a bit blurry when someone is logging 25-30 hours a week into any game.  Especially confusing if the game is designed to be 'easy to learn, hard to master'.

No one said there is anything wrong with playing those games. It's just funny how gamers come up with this weird definition of what is a real game when championing the video game version of a Robert Rodriguez movie (TLOU) as a hardcore game. It's hilarious.

I don't subscribe to the TLOU newsletter but Robert Rodriguez? For real? Nah. TLOU is more like a summer blockbuster that gets great reviews simply because the story and characterization isn't total dogshit. TLOU is basically a Marvel movie in terms of actual quality and reception.

TLOU is nothing like a Robert Rodriguez film. You've either never played the game or haven't seen a RR film since Desperado. TLOU is like a bloated Sam Raimi blockbuster, which is ironic because Sam Raimi might direct the film adaptation.
