I like the gameplay of Destiny but holy crap:

-loot distribution is ass
-strikes are boring and repetitive, bosses are just bullet sponges
-the classes don't really have a niche that makes class composition important in strikes (dunno about the raid yet)
-they have nonsensical caps on things
-it's grindy as hell
-all the maps for pvp are just big and isolating so it's just hide and go seek

Bring all this stuff up and someone has a meltdown in the Destiny thread about how you're a hater or some shit.

I don't really intellectualize to such a degree, it's more that I encounter any instance of positive reinforcement and feel an immediate and total revulsion to it which I then have to displace with sardonic apathy.

It's one of the reasons why I hate trying to discuss an overhyped title on GAF. There's no actual reasonable "critic" and "yeah, those elements suck" with the majority of posters there.

Boss design in DS2 is uncreative as hell from a gameplay perspective.

Fighting some humanoid in a circular arena got boring after the 12th time or so.

Destiny is the worst. Bosses fights are just "survive adds, shoot at boss." There is no dance, there is no schtick to the boss like putting a team mate to sleep or controlling their mind, avoiding AoE, focus firing on something.

The strikes put me to sleep. Just a long drawn out battle of attrition.

Yeah, the beta was great. The downgrade in lighting was a shame. But the biggest issue I had with Dark Souls 2 was that it just didn't feel like an "improvement" on Dark Souls. It just felt like it side-stepped for the sake of a quick cash-in sequel so people would play it in the meantime for Bloodborne development.

he uses his big ass spear to penetrate his opponents?

Saying that like Broseidon is a top. :hitler

I still haven't started my copy of Destiny, not that I have the time to right now. Reading about bullet sponge bosses is really the one major thing that's dissapointing me from the start, since I was hoping they'd fix them based on Alpha/Beta feedback (cuz they were sponges then too).

The Huntsman's Copse in the DS2 beta was god damn terrifying. Stepping inside a cave or the one house would prevent one from seeing even a step ahead of them, and all the enemies were dressed in dark colors so it was easy for them to ambush you. Still remember the thrill of going into the cave in front of the Skeleton Lord area and running like a madman, somehow managing to go through the whole thing without a scratch; as well as the two black phantoms that spawned before the fog gate, one in front and one behind you.

Well sometimes it seems like everyone here hates everyone, which is ironically also pretty welcoming when you think about it.  I should also probably clarify I couldn't even name a rape game outside of the ones everyone else knows (which is pretty much just Rapelay).

As for Kagari, she can be pretty stubborn sometimes.  I don't usually disagree with her decisions, but her hatred of you baffled me at times.  I want to say it stemmed from your enjoyment of FFXIII and defense of it, but she's totally cool with me and also has staff on her own site that absolutely love the Lightning trilogy, so I don't know.

They really did. The beta version was a tough but fair, I felt, while the final version got me really heated due to how aggressive the minions in that fight are.

Meanwhile, the beta kind of ruined the Skeleton Lords for me. I'd gotten spooked/hit  by the two BPs right before them. I sprinted right for the fog gate in an attempt to lose them... only to go right into the boss room. :lol :lol Can't remember how I managed to not panic and heal myself enough to take the boss down in one go with like 5 remaining life gems.

I mean clearly I don't know  her very well since I never talked to her. I don't really know why would dislike me specifically. Maybe because I didn't respect or buy into her "whatever". Eh, I didn't have a problem with her until she banned me. Either way I'm oddly happy to know she hated me.

all this bitching and moaning from both sides must mean the game is worth something at least right?
I'm sure someone here will link the next GAF thread about so that they can bitch about GAF. You can read that for impressions.

all this bitching and moaning from both sides must mean the game is worth something at least right?

I think it's worth trying, but I don't think it's as amazing as the (very) vocal fanbase thinks it is. People are saying it's "one of the best videogames of all time" and I'm like "nahhhhhh :yeshrug"

i guess but damn the salt it generates, especially since it adds console wars horseshit to it.

We've had plenty of discussion on this side (the bore I mean) where some people like Last of Us and some people think its a bit over-rated. I'm in the later group but so what. I don't like Demon's or Dark Souls and nearly everybody thinks those games are wonderful.

I liked GTA 4. And most hardcore forum types hated that game on here and on the bore.

Not sure why suddenly its a big deal either way.

yea i remember discussing it a bit with you (where the gameplay was your main issue, which is fair)

also i like Demons/Dark Souls and dont care about GTA (only GTA2 was the exception tbh)

That's my issue. People want to tell me its the best story they've ever experienced in a game. And I'm totally fine with that. I thought it was good on that level although it didn't resonate with me at best of all time level but I understand how it might with other people. I totally understand the emotional appeal of the game.

But some of those same people also want to tell me its equally amazing on the gameplay side. And I just can't agree with that at all.

I'll admit that all of the fervour surrounding TLoU made me not want to play Naughty Dog games for years.  I've got people pushing me to play Uncharted 2, but I've put it pretty low on my list of priorities because I'm mostly afraid that I won't like it.  I haven't liked a lot of games that seem to be praised a lot lately, so I guess that's my odd irrational fear.  Or maybe I'm growing out of bigger games, so who knows.

I gave an unplayed copy of TLoU to someone else to get another game instead, so I probably won't be playing that game for years.  I don't really want to play it since I feel like I know everything about it.  It's similar for a lot of games that get a ton of buzz on social media or a lot of news threads on GAF. I don't feel inclined to play those games right away.  It's why I've stopped paying so much attention to game news.  I've realized that it makes the event of playing the game boring for me.

Those games were, and are still, difficult to get away from with respect to opinions, articles, and forum posts waxing poetic about them.  I generally like playing a game and feel like I have a more balanced impression of it whenever I play an import copy of a game or whenever I play it without looking at a thread or forum specifically-tailored for the game.  So when there are reams and reams of posts, articles, and forum threads about a game, I feel like my opinion might shift a little because I'm learning about the game from other people too much instead of trying to evaluate it on my own.  Everyone's told me how AMAZING TLoU is and talked about the gameplay, the characters, the feelings evoked based on the game's themes, why it's so great, for example.  Thus there isn't much inclination to play it on my part.

Same thing's happened with Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors, Destiny, etc. very recently.

And Rahxephon, I'd agree with maybe taking a break from forums for a bit.  I kinda know how that feels since I almost started snapping at a lot of people instead of behaving rationally, so I started taking breaks and benefited from them.  That and not taking everything that everyone says on games forums seriously.

Rah keep doing what you're doing, I appreciate that you don't try and assimilate into the culture here. Dennis too. Like when StealthFan started posting here lots of people gave him shit because of how he is, but he stuck with it (and im glad he did). Squid tho .. you need Jesus bro

im suprised squid is still here. he lasted longer than eggman at least
I dont even think squid is a bad guy or a bad poster underneath it all, if he'd just drop his character I'd be 100% fine with him. I cant fuck with imaginary internalertnet characters brahs.

How's that copy of Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave working out for you instead? :jawalrus
