ivysaur12 got banned on GAF? Surprised. Of course, I used to have a huge crush on him as he's a stunningly hot gay dude who works at ABC and also has a hardon for defending fraternities from any and all criticism.

naughty dog are the life raft for a generation of gamers who have grown, old, fat and have been cut adrift from the kind of expressive and/or impenetrable games which kids go crazy for nowadays.

Yes. Left toward the stairs. The fight is mostly "that's bullshit" due to how small the area is and the aggressive AI. Otherwise it wouldn't be "too bad" a fight if it was just you and them. Instead it throws two more enemies at you in addition to the boss.

It's the same as the S&O boss-fight. The game engine simply can't handle multiple bosses and letting you attack them individually well.

You can, if you have the Master Key "gift" completely skip the area and come back later, BTW.

I'll admit that all of the fervour surrounding TLoU made me not want to play Naughty Dog games for years.  I've got people pushing me to play Uncharted 2, but I've put it pretty low on my list of priorities because I'm mostly afraid that I won't like it.  I haven't liked a lot of games that seem to be praised a lot lately, so I guess that's my odd irrational fear.  Or maybe I'm growing out of bigger games, so who knows.

I gave an unplayed copy of TLoU to someone else to get another game instead, so I probably won't be playing that game for years.  I don't really want to play it since I feel like I know everything about it.  It's similar for a lot of games that get a ton of buzz on social media or a lot of news threads on GAF. I don't feel inclined to play those games right away.  It's why I've stopped paying so much attention to game news.  I've realized that it makes the event of playing the game boring for me.

Those games were, and are still, difficult to get away from with respect to opinions, articles, and forum posts waxing poetic about them.  I generally like playing a game and feel like I have a more balanced impression of it whenever I play an import copy of a game or whenever I play it without looking at a thread or forum specifically-tailored for the game.  So when there are reams and reams of posts, articles, and forum threads about a game, I feel like my opinion might shift a little because I'm learning about the game from other people too much instead of trying to evaluate it on my own.  Everyone's told me how AMAZING TLoU is and talked about the gameplay, the characters, the feelings evoked based on the game's themes, why it's so great, for example.  Thus there isn't much inclination to play it on my part.

Do play them, man. Especially Uncharted 3 as well. They're all worth playing. I think Uncharted 2 is good but it doesn't beat Uncharted 1 in terms of characterization and "charm" to me. Uncharted 1 is the first Naughty Dog title (I've played the Crash series before that and a little of Jak and Daxter) to pull me in due to the character banter. It does get repetitive in regards to the Gears-like cover shoot-bang, but what game doesn't?

Same with the Last of Us, the Last of Us is attempting to do the same thing but it just doesn't have the "charm" to make me care about Ellie (especially when Joel doesn't until some "moment" in the game makes me suddenly 180 on it. Kinda like Squall suddenly falls in love with Rinoa on the Ragnarok in FF8) and the gameplay isn't "great" enough to be "game"-y like Uncharted to where it burned me out far faster than Uncharted did.

ivysaur12 got banned on GAF? Surprised. Of course, I used to have a huge crush on him as he's a stunningly hot gay dude who works at ABC and also has a hardon for defending fraternities from any and all criticism.

Possibly self-asked? I dunno if it's perma, but Ivy did say the TV cancellation thread was probably going to be his last "OP" one and he was going to lurk TV-GAF due to his rise in position(s) in the TV-writing side of the TV industry a few weeks back. It's possible he wants to just cut all ties so he doesn't get burned like Gary Whitta.

Probably in that rape consent thread, I saw him post a bunch there earlier

Capra is an exercise in rolling and dodging. Don't even bother using your shield, because your stamina will be eaten up in less than a second because of all the hits. I agree that running right is the best option, so instead of rolling through Capra's attack you can roll through the dogs' attacks towards the stairs.

That said, the fight is bullshit and harder than 90% of the others in the game just because of how the arena is crafted. At least Kalameet makes sense being so difficult.

Hideo Kojima.  :kobeyuck
Kojima is fine for gameplay and set pieces, just ignore stories where he needs to try and fit pieces together.

Policenauts, Snatcher for example are perfect, prolly cause there wasnt a need to make it fit canonically with anything else, cept for some Metal Gear references.

Silent hill hasn't been about subtlety in a long time. Its heavy use of theme and symbolism is no longer true.

There's many types of horror. And I think kojima, assuming he can keep his cutscene dick wrapped up, can do a good job with the genre. Noticeably in SH, whose main identity is mood and atmosphere. Kojima through out his career has been pretty good at what the fuck scenarios that create a shocked emotion. MGS1 is a great example. I think Silent Hills has potential to be the best SH since 4. That doesn't mean much, but as an old fan, I'm excited. It doesn't have to be "marionettes are the embodiment of jamea' conflicted sexuality" or "pyramid head is the symbol of James' fury and anger" type SH, because that SH died with Team Silent.

The problem is that silent hill 2 is a top 5 (top 3?) game story. Horror is about more than set pieces.

You guys are silly about this, Kojima himself hasnt wanted to do metal gear since at least MGS (PSX). It's very plain as day the guy is a top 5 talent in the gaming industry all time, if he had the balls to break away from Konami (or whatever loli blackmail they have over him) and worked on more projects he wanted you wouldnt have had the clusterfuck of pushing the dude where he didnt want to go and had to make shit up on the fly. He's also not suited for multi entry series, that much is clear. MGS is just a remake of MG1 + MG2 anyway (One hell of a fucking game) Dudes dont just make games like Policenauts, Snatcher, MGS because they're B tier shit makers. Boktai wasnt even bad either.

Somehow the plot of a series that was never supposed to go past 1996 is the thing that people cling to when they discuss Kojima. His gameplay is great and got better. The atmosphere definitely became worse though, but I attribute that to the later games even existing in the first place.

My favorite Metal Gear moment was the former President of the United States--who now lead an armed insurgency calling itself the Sons of Liberty--fighting a nefarious organization called the Patriots and having that insurgency culminate on the roof of the United States' first capitol.

I forgot to mention that the president is the son of a man colloquially known as Big Boss.

Like at no point in the creative process did someone sit back and lay this all out on the table and see how asinine it was. It's truly beautiful. :lawd

I'm not sure where you're getting any of this about how MGS wasn't supposed to continue past 1 or where Kojima didn't want to make them. Because the dude clearly wanted to make MGS2 and you keep ignoring that game. The game that is the most Kojima game out there.

The sound trick in Snatcher is'nt anything beyond what he did with Psycho Mantis. There's no doubt that the guy use to be able to come up with nifty ideas on how to make players interact with his games. Yet, he's largely dropped that in games past MGS3. PW, 4, and now the demo of 5 all lack any of those interactive moments. I don't really buy the excuse of "he did'nt want to make them" because MGS3 is the one where he crafted The End so that excuse dosen't work. Regardless, he still made them and he still put his effort into them.

Beyond that Snachter and Policenauts are nothing to write home in regards of thier gameplay save a few moments in Snachter. They are adventure games that rip-off Hollywood wholesale. Hell, looking at Polienauts would only tell me that Kojima was always a perv so the Quient stuff shouldn't surprise me.

Somehow the plot of a series that was never supposed to go past 1996 is the thing that people cling to when they discuss Kojima.
This dosen't even make any sense. You're telling us to not base are opinions on a guys work when that work has taken up most of his life. Who cares if he supposedly didn't want to make those games. He still did so that's not an excuse. That's the work he put out. You want us to look at games that are 20 years old and have no bearing on what the guy makes now? That's stupid.

The first time I used a fulton, I burst out laughing, my friend rushed over and asked me whats so funny, I couldn't really explain what was happening but the thought of dudes just randomly ballooning up into the atmosphere to safety legit had me in stitches  :heh
