Anything Midgar or Ancient City-related is the highlight of FFVII's soundtrack. Particularly "Anxious Heart" when going through the Train Graveyard.

Any time I want to replay FF7 I try to forget there's other parts of the game outside of Midgar and I lose interest when I remember there is. I just want a cyberpunk jRPG fully contained within Midgar or a city like it. It's surprising how much of Midgar could really be what a city of the future looks like. If there's one thing that's timeless about FF7, it's that city.

FFVII world map theme is my fav. So majestic, so moving, such sweeps.

The entire soundtrack is a work of bloody art using a crappy Casio keyboard,

Highwind Takes to the Skies is hands down one of my favorite airship/flight themes in any game. It just perfectly captures that feeling of lifting off and soaring through the air without a care.

A lot of the later PS1 games like Spyro and stuff can be cleaned up enough to be pretty decent.

It's those earlier games where they're like 3D in theory more than in actuality.

That isnt and has never been the point of the game or the genre really. The super deformed sprites on 2D backgrounds with scaling 'sprites' still 'works' the JRPG genre hasnt evolved past where FF7 is now obsolete, nor does it need to.

No it isn't. Especially for a Playstation title. Neither is Metal Gear Solid before you start outside of the texture work now a days.

You're going in with a 2014 mindset. Of course the texture work, etc. is going to look bad now a days in that regard. But in regards to the system's power? Not really.

(I will say FF7 has aged badly and if FF8 had a few more polygons on the models and a bigger resolution for the backgrounds that wouldn't have aged as hard as 7)

D4 is a special case of being more of an indie game. I wouldn't lump it into the hype wormholes of things like Titanfall, Destiny, or Driveclub.

Yeah that system held up great for sure

Most games when the psx was only d-pad only weren't like modern games, and they were fine with the d-pad. Games like Tomb Raider, sure, I'll give you, but those were rare. But stuff like Jumping Flash or Resident Evil were completely fine without analog control. Most games back then were not third person, behind shoulder camera games, so the d-pad controls were never really an issue.
