I agree with you in principle, but Borderlands, at least the second, was so bad about delivering top tier loot that you should not feel bad about cheating it in. Having to alt-F4 out the game so you avoid completing an unrepeatable quest? Insanity.
 
Early D3 was bad, too, but they've turned a corner by killing the AH and the loot 2.0 patch.

My Vista was 32-bit, and I got 7 Pro for like $19 or something. (download from whatever Microsoft Student is/was called and burn yourself version) after I got a new 2TB drive. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have necessarily upgraded, 7 is nicer around the edges though, especially in things like multi-monitors, etc.

There was a month I got banned a lot for arguing, and they just decided to stick a perma on me and be done with it; i'm actually disappointed that I cared so much about what people thought of other games in that series (even tho 1 is still the best)

SH1 is incredible though. There really is nothing else like it out there. Even the other two SH games felt completely different.

I actually do enjoy the latter two SH games, and even 3 a lot more than 2 because it feels like a combination of 1's horror design with 2's campiness.

But yeah, 1 is just unique in the pantheon of jRPGs in that it's straight up horror throughout the whole game, from the enemy designs to locales you visit. The artistic vision and overall design is fantastic, and only slightly marred by unimpressive graphics (though, really, the animation work done for in-game cutscenes is actually really fluid, something carried over from its predecessor, Koudelka). The music, likewise, is very evocative of the places you visit, something that Covenant and From the New World don't hit the mark on often.

Btw I'm reading through the doxxing of Aatrek thread now on Something Sensitive, and goddamn. 8 year olds, dude.

If you can withstand up-rezzed PSX graphics on your PS2, you're probably good... and also the fact that in-battle voice acting was never translated to English ... and that the little English voice acting there is is mostly terrible. Yulwei and Himuro know exactly the scene I'm referring to (schloooop schloooop...).

But there's such an undeniable charm to the game. It's basically a concoction of the best of B-rate horror films, with haunting industrial music, a golf-like rhythm minigame, and hilarious writing. Not to mention the real-world setting and ridiculous amounts of detail contained within the game's bestiary and items. It did FF12's/Mass Effect's codex feature before that was even a thing.
