Vann Woodward is a historian who has written some great books on Southern history. I would highly recommend his work for persons who have an interest in learning more about the South.

I was hanging out in the Reddit College Football IRC channel a few weeks ago during a Stanford game. During one time out the Stanford "band" (which for those unfamiliar with college football are known for being awful at playing music, awful at being a band, and awful at being human beings) started playing the Sublime song "Date Rape". This was a nationally televised football game, so in the channel I remarked "wow I can't believe they didn't mute the band while playing Date Rape." (Of course the Stanford band sucks and that song is kind of old and it was just an instrumental version so there's that). I immediately got a PM from a channel moderator warning me not to use banned or sensitive words in the channel again or I would be kicked and banned from the channel.

Now look, I get that the policy is probably there to prevent stupid people from saying things like "dang he got raped on that hit" or "Oregon's offense is really raping the Bruins" but I mean come the fuck on. Is that where this world is? I don't disagree with their policy even, I just think that instance of enforcement was dumb.
