the best part of any music year-end roundup on techsperg forums are the metal dorks, pop dweebs, and vidjagame-music-is-the-only-music-on-my-sandisk nerdlings proclaiming loud and proud how little of the music they recognize by name.
gg on being out of the loop brehs
I think I knew like maybe 6 artists on that list. Todd Terje obv, Leon Vynehall, Flying Lotus, Brian Eno/Karl Hyde... to be fair Pitchfork doesn't really focus too much on electronic music and I'm not into indie at all nor that much into hiphop.
Though based on the majority of people I know, when they get to a certain age (usually mid 20's), the majority of people stop actively seeking out new music, they'll listen to what's on the radio or whatever they liked in HS/college. I'm willing to bet my friends (in their 30's) wouldn't recognize any artist on that list aside from Taylor Swift... maybe they'd recognize Inspector Norse off It's Album Time because I played that a lot at parties upon its release. Nor would they really even care about being "out of the loop".
