We don't kill kids and teens here on the septic isle, we just molest them on an almost industrial level. Although even there the degenerates of Pakistani and Bangladeshi descent have the toffs beat. No easy feat I can assure you.

Best bar I've been to is a cigar bar. Leather couches everywhere, chill hip hop music, people there were incredibly relaxed, and you can smoke tobacco, in a bar! Fucking hate how smoking has been banned before I started smoking.

Worst bar was some college kid hangout where the dark beer tasted like windex and everything felt broken or cheap.

OH!

I don't even like Halo but I'll admit I remember watching that, being in the GAF thread, and being amazed. It's up there with the Wii reveal as one of the greatest E3 moments.

Wii lol..those were the days. Remember when some insider posted a pic of nun-chucks on GAF, an hour or so before the conference?

The Wii will probably be the ballsiest thing Nintendo will ever do. Non HD console that uses motion controls for everything and the main game bundled is a mini game collection. I never really dug the Wii, but Nintendo's gambling was entertaining to say the least.

The Wii-U on the other hand was a lazy gamble.

"Kids AND adults like iPads and tablets right?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"What if the controller is a tablet but it has to be used at home?"
"That sounds weird man."
"What if we have Wii in the title?"
"Aight."

Yea I can't help but respect the balls of the Wii. I remember lots of arguments revolving around whether it would completely bomb or sell decently before tapering off/dying. Instead it sold 100mil+. Pretty impressive.

Of course, Nintendo took the L by not using that success to transition into something else. Instead they tried a retread and learned they aren't Apple.

Wii had a pretty good first two years or so of titles too. Was nice as more of the 360/PS3 stuff was landing on PC while it got more of the offbeat stuff and pretty good stuff like de Blob or Order Up!

Though it seems in retrospect that all peaked around Wii Sports Resort, which was the title/wiimote that actually brought the original hype of how the motion controls were implied to operate with shit like Red Steel.  :lol

The Wii is perplexing. Here you have the winner of the generation, millions upon millions sold. And hardly any good games with it. I can think of Super Mario Galaxy 1-2, Smash, Mario Kart and Skyward sword. Not a bad set of games but that's it.

haha remember when people were trying too hard just cause the wii was selling like hotcakes and telling us motion gaming was the future

come on, that shit obviously sucked ass and was a gimmick

Remember when we were young and everybody used to have those arguments, what's better, HD or motion gaming? HD won.

Wii doesn't have a lot of great great stuff but it does have a decent amount of good concept, basic fun, etc. titles that aren't totally polished like a lot of PC indies.

There'd probably be one or two in a top 25 and I don't know how many would make it into a top 50 of the generation, but I wouldn't throw a tantrum if you said there were 20 Wii titles in the top 100 of the generation.  :yeshrug

The Wii really was a gimmick.  There was an advantage though: since everyone owned a Wii, it didn't take much to have drunken shit talking sessions of playing Wii Golf and Wii Bowling (the other games sucked ass).  As a nerd, I noticed (and :teehee 'd) when I saw that the only games anyone I knew ever bought with the Wii was Wii Fit or Wii Play.  The Wii got a second wind with NSMB Wii but the glory days were gone.  Naturally none of that hype and name recognition moved to the Wii U.  I understand that Nintendo had to have the next console also called a Wii for name recognition purposes.  For what it's worth, there wasn't much Nintendo could do with the Wii U: the fad was long since dead by late 2012 and it is never coming back.

It had a lot of nice little exclusive that were overshadowed by the Nintendo fare:

Batman the Brave and Bold
Deadly Creatures
Fortune Street
Fragile Dreams
Klonoa Remake
Little King Story
Shiren
Sin and Punishment 2
Trauma Center
Zack and Wki
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Really underrated system. And you can probably get most of those games for dirt cheap now.

The board's culture seems to hinge entirely on white guys with self-serving agendas latching on to the social cause of the day under the guise of so-called "allies," surrounded by more allies who look, act and talk exactly the same, speaking, sometimes loudly, on the behalf of us actual minorities on how outraged or upset they are about the next big thing.

Eh, that part is true.

Ignoring those people is pretty easy though. They make bloated and gigantic threads/OPs that few people actually read.

Castlevania/Gradius/Contra Rebirth (Wiiware)

Arc Rise Fantasia

Too bad the shovelware garbage overshadowed the good stuff, and the whole rep as being a 'casual' platform scared off a lot of the enthusiasts who might actually enjoy stuff like that. While everyone gives shit about Nintendo's floundering WiiU sales, I do appreciate that they've doubled down on their traditional market, and the games on the system are probably the best 1st party titles from them in years.

I make sure to specify that i'm not really into the game part, but more in it for the intellectual pursuit in applying critical theory to the ludonarratives presented by various active entertainment media.  But that's not nearly as important as wearing a very sparkly scarf to interviews.

While everyone gives shit about Nintendo's floundering WiiU sales, I do appreciate that they've doubled down on their traditional market, and the games on the system are probably the best 1st party titles from them in years.

Arc Rise gets a crappy rep, too, because Ignition sucked at localization up until their very last game.  Excellent systems and a neat combat system, and the game itself is basically packed with content.   Decent balancing and positioning matters.  Has a lot of stuff I like out of an RPG.  Too bad imageepoch is pretty bad in general these days.

I don't think the Wii is that bad of a system third-party wise, but it's definitely true that you had to go through piles and piles of crappy shovelware to get to the good/decent stuff (and that's true of any system that's moderately popular).  However, I felt that it didn't have as much variation with respect to other genres on the system (ie: if it did have RPGs, it didn't have very many and there wasn't a lot of variation in terms of subgenres on the system, etc).  It's a good system for both first-and-third-party platformers, though.

Not my favorite Nintendo system.  SNES da bes' out of Nintendo systems to me.

Stay away from fanbases and console warriors, though. Some of those people are crazy and/or irritating.

prices for that have chilled a bit since the reprint.  gamestop has it used for $60 and it sells for $70-$80 used online.  still ridiculous, but in comparison to some other retro nintendo game prices i've looked up lately, not so bad.

i think i'm just gonna skip it and play the sequel though.

So someone completed the game in like five hours according to their trophy timestamp...which isn't a lot of content for $60, but people who haven't played the game were quick to point out that the person who had played the game obviously was speed running through it. And they claim that they'll easily milk another five or so hours out of the experience by slowly walking around "soaking it all in". :sabu

The NeoGAF fallout over this game is easily gonna be more entertaining than the game itself.

Well I don't know. I am constantly amazed at how fast people complete games so I wouldn't discount that out of hand.

Probably this is not a particularly long game but if it is a quality experience that'll be OK. But the buzz is kinda down on the gameplay.

Barely could I drive myself to press circle, then square, then triangle, to open the door handle invariably leading me to  another rectangular room of crates; so enamoured was I by the beauty which lay before me. Never have my senses encountered such majesty, a post-processed wonderment writ to the screen in sub-1080p. So filmic and emotionally engrossing was the experience of holding this door I scarcely realized the clever anachronism of technologically-advanced weaponry in a time of horse carriages, public defecation and street lamps. RaD has broken through the barriers that have traditionally held interactive art back, and I cannot wait to force my parents to watch me play while pointing out the motion blur and real-time cinematics.
