The Wii is perplexing. Here you have the winner of the generation, millions upon millions sold. And hardly any good games with it. I can think of Super Mario Galaxy 1-2, Smash, Mario Kart and Skyward sword. Not a bad set of games but that's it.
It had a lot of nice little exclusive that were overshadowed by the Nintendo fare:
A Boy and His Blob
Batman the Brave and Bold
Deadly Creatures
Fortune Street
Fragile Dreams
Klonoa Remake
Little King Story
Shiren
Sin and Punishment 2
Trauma Center
Zack and Wki
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Really underrated system. And you can probably get most of those games for dirt cheap now.
I'll add a few more:
Kororinpa: Marble Mania
Castlevania/Gradius/Contra Rebirth (Wiiware)
Opoona
Arc Rise Fantasia
Too bad the shovelware garbage overshadowed the good stuff, and the whole rep as being a 'casual' platform scared off a lot of the enthusiasts who might actually enjoy stuff like that. While everyone gives shit about Nintendo's floundering WiiU sales, I do appreciate that they've doubled down on their traditional market, and the games on the system are probably the best 1st party titles from them in years.
Arc Rise gets a crappy rep, too, because Ignition sucked at localization up until their very last game. Excellent systems and a neat combat system, and the game itself is basically packed with content. Decent balancing and positioning matters. Has a lot of stuff I like out of an RPG. Too bad imageepoch is pretty bad in general these days.
I don't think the Wii is that bad of a system third-party wise, but it's definitely true that you had to go through piles and piles of crappy shovelware to get to the good/decent stuff (and that's true of any system that's moderately popular).
However, I felt that it didn't have as much variation with respect to other genres on the system (ie: if it
did have RPGs, it didn't have very many and there wasn't a lot of variation in terms of subgenres on the system, etc). It's a good system for both first-and-third-party platformers, though.
Not my favorite Nintendo system. SNES da bes' out of Nintendo systems to me.
Stay away from fanbases and console warriors, though. Some of those people are crazy and/or irritating.
