I was coming just to post that. (Edited with a "view single post" link, meanwhile. People should start using that for Post Per Page differences) Frankie is good people, despite how badly handled Halo's IP/games have been under him/343's direction. It'd be a shame if he left the board, but he's like the only "notable game dev" still on the board that isn't random PR person there to fluffer NeoGAF. He's there to discuss with people. If I had to guess, Evilore checked out and let mods have more freedom to do what they want. I doubt Evilore has favoritism towards as many users as some mods do, same thing with petty vendettas or grievances (Evilore can be petty, but its usually more private and retardedly nuanced).

Evilore is to blame for not keeping the mods on an actual leash, the mods are to blame for enforcing their own rules which are actually complete garbage and have hurt the site tremendously.

GAF had a lot of game developers and industry types around a decade ago. They've been getting scared off since 2007-2008 when Evilore realized he could make more money catering to 4chan/GameFAQs runoff than maintaining an environment where developers and journalists could thrive in. To be fair, that was the right financial decision. He may want NeoGAF to be respected and lucrative but in the end, he picks what is lucrative 9 times out of 10. Eh... 343's first "turkey" was with Halo 4 for a lot of people. Though the people that worked on the engine (Yu and a few others) made it competent. 343's insistence on "Call of Duty"-fying the game harmed it. 343's oversight on Master Chief Collection completely breaking the entire collection was just the visible gash and that bled.

I'd say I wouldn't put half the attacks on Frankie strictly on GAF. Even Bungie.net (or whatever the replacement for that is)/Halo community in general is extremely toxic and has been getting bad since the second title. It's just now that people know the director posts on GAF, they started to sign up for GAF and start to be really bitter/cynical toward the series.

Couldn't have put it better. I also think that Evilore is now like a drunk king who kicks the door in and changes random laws and banishes some peasants for the color of their clothes. The other peasants cheer his greatness and wish only to be mentioned by him. But then Evilore only talks to site celebrities, and then drives off in his Porsche.

When Evilore changes the rules, goes against the current built-up narrative, or bans for feelings, the other mods have to realize that the rules they have been running with are pretty silly. The whole "cunt is a mean word" episode is evidence of that.

It's his site, it's not a public service after all.
