Games that revolutionized a series or a genre don't look that impressive 10 or 20 years later after its core mechanics have been refined or done to death by newer games, more news at 11.

I hate to say this, but I don’t think Resident Evil 4 is a great game at all. In fact it feels like a less polished less refined, a rough draft of Resident Evil 5. So many elements of Resident Evil 4 are present in 5.

RE5 is the worst mainline game in the franchise. RE6 has some fucked issues, but at the very least you aren't bored or feel lethargic while playing. Boring locales, boring characters, boring weapon selection, no new mechanics were added for mobility or aiming, forced co-op.

People that don't see why RE4 is special wouldn't be able to critically review a grocery bag. The design and pacing is what sets it apart from every third person shooter.

5 was weak, sure. But 6's campaign is top-to-bottom level of bad. You can say you weren't "bored of lethargic" but I was more frustrated and annoyed by the numerous gun enemies. Whereas in 5, I never felt like I was fighting against the game to enjoy it.

3 is still the pinnacle of the series anyway. Made for action but you could play it like the traditional survival horror it was in 1-2.

If anything, that subseries increased the "blinders". Shame too. Dirge of Crebus was partially enjoyable under certain circumstances and Crisis Core is a steaming pile of fanfiction. Whatev though. A bad FF game is still better than most jRPGs out there.

I do want to see more sub series for FF games. I'll shill extra harder for SE if I get my Laguna/Kiros/Ward TPS or Lightning's time in the Guardian Corps pre purge

TLOU is a sorta OK 3rd person shooter with not really satisfying gunplay and borked stealth that only got plaudits because it had an easier marketable concept and a bigger marketing budget than better games that ran the same concept of a heavy narrative influencing the gameplay like Binary Domain or Spec Ops: The Line back in 2012 (Because you can't market Spec Ops without spoiling the twist and any game made by Toshihiro Nagoshi is fated to die in the west with no marketing)

My favorite part of The Line is when you're fighting in a mall and you wander into a wargaming shop. Even that far into the game and in the middle of a protracted gun battle the developers managed to find a way to be spectacularly unsubtle.

I've played the intro to Twilight Princess three times and never got past goat herding (why?). Legitimately came close to dozing off catching a fish for the cat. I think it killed any interest in ever buying/trying Skyward.

I've played through Link to the Past, Link Between Worlds and original Zelda since then.

Regarding RE4, a GAF thread in 1995 would find a way to claim that Super Mario wasn't a big deal. "Yoshi's Island does everything better. SMB is kinda forgettable."

Yep.  Reddit was going down the road of being Digg 2, which at one time Digg was worth $200 million but sold off for $500,000.  The investors who have been pouring obscene amounts of money into the site wasn't going to let that happen.  Not to mention the bungled execution and bungled response.  Not to worry, Ellen Pao will fail upwards somewhere else.

Reddit had the problem of some stuff needing to be pruned but the people on top really not understanding that they gave a shit way too late in the game.

You can't have a "free speech" anything goes atmosphere with no real moderation (because the mods tend to be part of the circle jerk that is the sub to begin with) and then be surprised when harassment becomes part of the equation. The only real conclusion to hate speech or implied threats is action outside the sub and douches trying desperately to one-up each other.
