FINAL FANTASY XIII SERIES
 ANNOUNCED FOR WINDOWS PC

LONDON (18th September, 2014) – Square Enix Ltd., publishers of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in Europe and PAL territories, today announces the FINAL FANTASY® XIII trilogy of games is headed to Windows PC, with the first in the series, FINAL FANTASY XIII, due for release on 9th October 2014.

The game will be available to download via the Square Enix online store and the Steam PC digital service (amongst others), priced at £10.99/€12.99. The game is available to pre-order now via the Square Enix Store and Steam, with those pre-ordering receiving 10% off. It is also confirmed that the FINAL FANTASY XIII trilogy will offer a set of Steam Trading Cards for players to collect and exchange.

On its original console release in 2010, FINAL FANTASY XIII marked the dawning of a new era for the celebrated series, bringing the game to multiple hi-definition consoles simultaneously for the first time in its history. The original game and subsequent adventures in the FINAL FANTASY XIII trilogy will soon be available for PC gamers to play for the very first time, with all games in the series due for release by Spring 2015.

Is it really exaggerating when mgsv and likely FFXV are coming to steam? When the big dogs come, do you think others aren't going to follow, especially given the success of smaller titles like Ys? More like Demi unable to interpret a market. :trollbron

Good thing they're being released separately, that way I don't have to sully my Steam account with Final Fantasy XIII.

How shitty does LR run on PS3?  Might wait for PC edition to get around to playing it.  13-2 was a great game but man did it run like ass.  Jealous of the people who play 13-2 for the first time on PC at glorious 1080/60fps.

Don't really care about this constant PC vs console debate on the bore. I enjoy consoles more and whenever I update my pc I like to go back and see what it can do with older games. Beyond that I stick to consoles.

On one hand I hate FFXIII and everything about it (outside of the music)
On the other hand, if Square releases FFXV on the PC I really have no need for a PS4 and they're more likely to do that if this sells well...

There is no pc vs console debate. This is just a thread with people who want another option finally fucking getting it. I've been wanting s-e to put these games on steam for the longest, at least five years. More japanese games on steam is a great thing. I have no idea why you are so offended that people who are happy that they can play games on more platforms is a bad thing or why it is a debate. There is no debate in this thread, and no one said you can't play these on console. I've bought FFXIII twice (on PS3 and 360) and I'll do it here.

We're right, it's not a debate. It's just a few people constantly posting how they are happy consoles are dead and how the PC is awesome and then covering that up with "oh were just happy to have options". Because saying you're happy to have options has to have an aside where they talk about how shitty and dead the other option is.

The other option isn't shitty or dead, but everything else is coming to the other side of the pond, and it gets frustrating when you want to buy a game (FFXV) and it's the only game you want for that system. I'm not paying 400 for one game, even if is final fantasy. They're not shitty and they're far from dead, as the past week has shown, but increasingly irrelevant. I don't see why you're offended people disagree with you. People shit on mobile all the time no matter the site, and I deal with it no matter where I go. I think you can spare one single site in your heart that isn't on console gamings nuts and you can certainly avoid it easy enough on this forum so don't act like people are rallying against you and consoles and villianize people who have different taste than you. I don't want to buy a ps4. Lots of people don't. That reflects gamings current climate. Deal with it.

I haven't ruled it out but that doesn't stop FFXV from being the only ps4 game I want currently. Who knows in the future.

Given that all the big ps4 announcements are for titles also on other systems the past month, from Silent Hills to DQ Warriors, you'll be hard pressed to support your claim that I will buy a ps4 any time soon.

It simply is "game on steam, add to my number".

And of course some people are just curious or actually like the game.

"Sales of the PC version of the Final Fantasy XIII games shows us at Square Enix what the fans really want.

"Clearly, they want... more Final Fantasy XIII and more Lightning.  Maybe we can make a game out of that Lightning Returns sequel novel yet!"

Sure, it would show that PC versions of some games are viable, and it's a good idea to make bigger games available on Steam, but I have to wonder if that's all they're going to think of when seeing more people buying the FF13 games.  I feel bad that I'm feeling like I'm only looking at things as though the glass is half-empty lately, but I just can't help but to be more realistic about it than optimistic.  I'm just tired, brehs.

Honestly, I use my consoles more as a media server than anything else (with the exception of the Wii U).
And really if FFXV comes out on PC and other publishers continue the trend then I'll even replace my current consoles as a media server with an actual media server.
Sony and Microsoft's exclusives aren't enough to justify a purchase.  I'll still play Nintendo's stuff but really I don't know if it's fair to call them "consoles" in anything but the most technical of senses.

Neither Konami nor S-E really put any of their own games on Steam until midway through last year, since then we've got several Final Fantasies, some Castlevanies, and the latest Metal Gears. There wasn't any "dump" multiple years ago.

Square-Enix was one of the major early supporters of Steamworks, but mainly through the Eidos side of the business. At the time people hoped that The Last Remnant would lead to XIII/Versus XIII coming to the PC, but that turned out to be a one-off.

Square-Enix was one of the major early supporters of Steamworks, but mainly through the Eidos side of the business. At the time people hoped that The Last Remnant would lead to XIII/Versus XIII coming to the PC, but that turned out to be a one-off.

exactly - relative to their output (which was small last gen), you saw SH: Homecoming, Lords of Shadow, MGS Rising etc on Konami's end, and LR/eidos stuff on Square's.  Konami barely makes games anymore (thank fuck), and SE dumping it's trash now shows most of their works, barring the highlight of their catalog which was The World Ends With You.  perhaps "dump" sounded like more titles, but again, both pubs put out significantly less than in gens prior.

my point is, the smaller/interesting japanese devs who don't only do handheld/mobile didn't necessarily migrate.  again, i'd like to see ports at some point, but as someone with quirky tastes for SHMUPs, rhythm, JRPG, b-tier action etc etc i think it's silly to pretend my Yakuzas/etc are finding a home there.

that said, himus wanting to support booty games in hopes of better ones being dropped is kinda noble, however silly.   I hope there's a good winter sale at least.

I wouldn't say it's silly at all given that now mgsv is coming to steam and SE are more open to more platforms for FF.

Also, lots of those games are coming. KOF98 and Metal Slug X drop in a few days. WOTS4 was just announced. We just got TITS on steam. Dynasty Warriors is even on steam. ??? Your argument seems completely incorrect, in that most of this started once SE put VII and VIII and Namco Bandai put Dark Souls on steam and were incredibly successful, thus leading way for more japanese game pubs to put their stuff on the platform. If MGSV turns out to be successful on steam, expect even more. You are wrong about this, this has been coming for a long time.

Also, XIII isn't a booty game. A butt game is something like Lord of Shadow.

And most of those games you listed that were dumped were mostly western games. Not japanese gsmes. ???
