I like the remastering job in H2 better than H1. They kept it fairly close to the original designs and more understated, whereas the H1 remaster came off as a bit overdone (although I do appreciate them finally making the Library navigable). Still, though, I think I prefer the original H2 design work in certain areas/levels. The lighting is moodier, too. The redone cut scenes are awesome, though, as is the remastered sound.

I mean it's just hilarious. Why do we as consumers have to do this? Why are we quitting out if the matchmaking doesn't find a game and then getting back into the queue.

Why isn't the game doing this stuff by itself and why haven't you patched it yet. You are owned by the platform holder after all. You don't have to go through the same hoops to release an update that third party devs do.

:lol Playing Halo 2 and 3 back to back, it's insane how awful 3's BR is. Total trash by comparison.

I wish more people would vote for Halo CE in TS. It's a bit laggy but still so good.

I’d like to provide the latest on Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and what the team is working on to address the issues you’re experiencing.

Looking at our data logs, server-side adjustments that we have made over the past 24 hours have shown a 20% increase in server connectivity. However, we are well aware that performance is not where it needs to be. Resolving Matchmaking issues also requires client-side fixes, which require a content update. The client side update, which focuses on Matchmaking performance, non-matchmaking bugs, and a variety of title-specific issues, has been completed and is going through testing and certification. We are currently targeting a release of Wednesday 11/19 for this content update.
We know the current Matchmaking experience is frustrating, and we continue to have various teams working 24/7 to isolate and resolve the issues to provide the best experience as soon as possible. We are going to continue to optimize the matchmaking experience after next week's content update, and make further adjustments as needed. We thank you for your continued patience.

I've given up on playing with friends until this trainwreck gets fixed. The odds of everybody in the party getting the 'in lobby / searching for players' boxes seem incredibly low, and chances are you won't even find a match anyway. This collection just makes 343 look like a bunch of amateurs, to be honest.

Tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, Nov. 20), our latest content update will become available. This particular content update addresses matchmaking performance, UI, gameplay, and title-specific issues. We are on track for a release of mid-late afternoon Pacific Time for this content update, and will immediately let you know when it is available. For now, here is a change list of what will be included. As a note, many of the below issues are sub issues that were caused by larger umbrella problems that we have addressed with this update.

 MATCHMAKING
Addressed a number of issues that resulted in extended matchmaking times and low matchmaking success rates.
Made a number of updates to how matchmaking progress is communicated to the player. With this update, you’ll see better, more frequent and more informative status updates throughout the matchmaking flow – so “Players Found” for example, will be displayed to let players know where they are in the matchmaking process instead of simply wondering if it’s going to connect.
The improved matchmaking flow is as follows:
Searching
Searching for more players
Players found
Finalizing matchmaking process
Connecting session
Made an update to ensure that parties stick together when returning from the post-game carnage report
Prevented the ability for players “kick” other players from matchmaking games
Made an update to ensure that the Roster correctly displays the “searching” UI rather than “My Game Session” while searching for players
Removed the possibility to boost ranking through a custom games exploit
Made an update to ensure that players cannot get stuck in the matchmaking screen during map voting
Made an update to ensure that the “Connecting to your game” message no longer incorrectly displays in the lower right of the screen during gameplay
Made an update to the “team creation” phase that allows players to be grouped by team
Made an update to prevent players from seeing the “connection failed” dialogue if disconnected during the map voting screen
Improved roster / matchmaking lobby stability
Made improvements to the accuracy and stability of the “Game Session Details” UI
Improved version compatibility

UI
Improved emblem and nameplate behavior to ensure that they do not reset to default (especially after game sessions)
Corrected career stats that did not update uniformly across different profiles in multiple titles
Improved Forge map display names in Theater
Corrected various medal inconsistencies across titles

CAMPAIGN
Made updates to the attainability of various achievements, including “Goat Roped,” “Monopolized,” “You’re Joking,” and “Devastating.”
Improved Halo: CE career stat tracking
Resolved scoring and time HUD reset and display issues
Made an update to ensure that rival emblems are displayed correctly

HALO: CE
Improved consistency and reliability of shot registration
Improved headshot hitboxes
Fixed an issue where respawning players could momentarily appear at their death location
Made an update to ensure that the match ends when the entire opposing team quits
Improved fall damage consistency (specifically in regards to uneven surfaces)
Improved Halo: CE menu and loading screen stability
Improved consistency with multikill rewards
Made an update to improve post-game carnage report accuracy for Halo: CE FFA games
Updated default language settings

HALO 2
Made an update to ensure that the team color shown in pre-game lobby matches in-game
Improved a variety of networking issues to allow for improved consistency between host and clients in peer to peer matches
Improved a variety of networking issues to allow for improved gameplay consistency
Made an update to service tag functionality, allowing for service tags to appear for all players
Improved the post-game carnage report to correctly display team color
Made an update to ensure that the match ends when the entire opposing team quits
Improved “original” medal icon functionality in split-screen
Improved host migration functionality
Corrected “headshot” stat tracking
Addressed a crash that occurred with the Scarab skull
Addressed art errors that occurred on the opening cinematics for “Uprising” and “High Charity”

HALO 2: ANNIVERSARY
Made an update to prevent players from gaining achievements in Forge
Improved Forge item display names
Resolved text overlapping issues
Improved split screen stability
Made an update to resolve the notorious “-1th” scoreboard text
Improved lobby functionality to address players not being able to reconnect to the party leader after completing a match
Improved host migration functionality
Corrected vehicle and weapon thumbnails in the “Tools of destruction” table in the post-game carnage report
Addressed a dedicated server issue that caused gameplay physics issues on Stonetown
Improved split-screen party functionality to ensure that players are not directed to a broken lobby screen after completing a game session
Improved Forge mode stability
Made an update to King of the Hill scoring to prevent multiple hills from counting down at the same time
Improved Shrine objective spawn points
Improved King of the Hill and Ninjanaut mode stability
Addressed an issue where controller vibration could persist during the pause menu
Improved Race mode respawn zones

We have additional content updates on the way, and work is already underway in an effort to continue to improve your experience with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. We thank you for your continued patience and support.

Game needs other fixes which they said they will continue to pursue.

If the matchmaking works. The insane lag is gone. And the teams are even and the party doesn't break after every match, then those are the most important things right there.

Just got through playing about 3 hours. The good and the bad.

Bad

Teams are often still uneven numbers wise
You can be in party and still be placed on opposite sides in a game.
Traditional 4 on 4 modes are still allowing 10 people in a game which overstuffs maps that weren't designed for that.
Game hung a few times on the post game scoreboard. One time I had to reboot the game. The other, it eventually dumped me back to the main menu.
Pregame, I still can't figure out which team is which because the nameplates are all different. Maybe I'm just dumb though and not understanding how to decipher it but I want to know which team I'm on in the pre-game lobby.

Good

I pretty much was able to get into matchmade game after game for the first time ever since I bought the game.
The party system seems to mainly stay intact from game to game.
Matchmaking time wasn't too bad. A couple of times I pulled us out of the matchmaking to restart the process because it seemed like we had hung but honestly we weren't there for that long. It may have just been taking a bit of time but I wanted to restart the process and we got into games quickly after doing that.
I could play custom games with a friend whom I had trouble with before. It always use to disconnect us before. Now we could play together.

Mixed

Lag. Most games were pretty damn good. A few were moderately laggy. A couple were atrocious. Like I had to quit almost immediately they were so bad. I still can't tell if we are using the peer 2 peer stuff or the dedicated server stuff.

So basically this is how I expected the game to originally launch. Kind of messy but mostly functional. I didn't expect it to take a week and a couple of days to be in essentially launch shape. And not great launch shape. But mediocre launch shape.

That being said I had a blast tonight. It was so fun to bounce from mode to mode and game to game. This is a game I can literally play for years. Hopefully they continue to patch it regularly and rapidly because it needs it. There are some clear problems currently with it. But at least I can play it now.

Look at the little vertical rectangle to the left of the name for team in the ore game lobby.

I tried it last night and couldn't find a match at all solo, or join a party at all. So it's worse. At least before I could get into a party after a few attempts and do co op. And I used to be able to find solo matches if I was persistent.

The game is completely useless to me now.

Yeah, I dunno about Halo 4. The new enemies were more annoying than fun to fight (especially those butterfly/wheel wing flying things).  Grenades have pretty much been rendered useless, as enemies dodge them too easily. New weapons are kind of "eh." The story edged around Cortana/Chief shudder-worthy fanfic. The Didact is kind of a boring Big Bad. There are too many "let's just throw everything in there at once and make a wall of explosions and noise" COD-type levels. But it sure was pretty, and looks just about as good as current gen stuff with the tweaking they did. And while some may complain about sprint, I wondered why it took them this long to implement it, as that motherfucker has been shown running in cut scenes since H:CE, so I'm grateful for the inclusion. I'm not really committed to getting H5 at launch, though.

On Nov 11th we released Halo: The Master Chief Collection.  The goal being to create a tribute to Halo fans around the world, and to celebrate the Master Chief’s debut on Xbox One.  With the initial release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, however, we have not delivered the experience you deserve.  I personally apologize for this on behalf of us all at 343 Industries.  Our team is committed to working around the clock until these issues are resolved.

While our team works on continual improvements and towards solutions, my commitment to you is that we will take care of all owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.  Our primary and continued focus is first on fixing the issues at hand.  Once we’ve done that, we will detail how we will make this right with our fans.

On the matchmaking front, we have encountered unexpected issues that were not apparent in our internal test environment and that have resulted in a frustrating experience, including long matchmaking times and low session success rates.  Within 343 Industries and Xbox, I can assure you that resolving these issues is our #1 priority.  We continue to partner with the Xbox platform team to analyze all data to make ongoing server-side adjustments to continually improve the matchmaking experience.  We are also preparing additional content updates that will address existing campaign, UI, and other issues to improve the overall experience.  With each update we will carefully analyze data to confirm that the improvements we’re seeing internally are also happening with fans at home.

Know that we’re trying to be as nimble as possible to put fixes in place.  We are planning multiple server-side tweaks and game content updates over the coming weeks.  Looking forward, I want to give you a high-level cadence of the latest updates we’re currently working on.  Development and testing of our latest content update continues and we are on track for release later this week. We will update you on the status and patch notes of the content update once we have a better understanding of our release window.  Only through making changes on both the “server side” (matchmaking and other server rulesets) and, via content updates (to the game itself), can we make the significant progress we’re working towards.  And in the interest of expediency, we’re attacking the problem from both sides, non-stop.

As we have been, we will continue to post the details of our updates and other adjustments on Halo Waypoint. Please check our forums at http://aka.ms/mcc_updates for the latest details as we roll out further fixes.

Please accept my heartfelt apologies for the delay and for the negative aspects of your experience to date.  We’re doing everything in our power to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Ross – Studio Head, 343 Industries

Not sure why it worked so well the day of the patch (for me) and then went back into the crapper regarding matchmaking.

On a scale of 1 to 10 the matchmaking was a one for me until the patch. The night of the patch it was like a 6 or 7. After that magical evening its regressed to a 2.

It's almost thanksgiving and the game is still effectively broken.

Played some this evening. I was able to get into more games but who knows if that is a temporary thing or not. Everything else is still broken. Uneven teams, hanging at the post game screen, general assorted weird shit, etc.

I mean how hard is it to make the teams even before a game starts for a game that has no join in progress...

I hope I get a free game out of this debacle. Or maybe some extra xbox live credit.

Just casually glancing at places like neogaf and reddit, this patch seems to have helped a lot of people get into more games but yeah its frustrating when it still doesn't help some people. It's like sometimes the game will enter into a bad state and the only way to fix it, is to either reboot the console or the game, because once the matchmaking gets borked during a session, it will stay borked.

Matchmaking has finally started working for me somewhat consistently (still fails or crashes a bunch, but it's not as horrible as it was before). Teams are still constantly unbalanced of course, and I don't know if it's just my shitty connection, but most of my games have been pretty laggy as well.

Back to waiting for them to fix this trainwreck.

There was a patch today. Honestly the game felt exactly the same or even worse and still full of bugs in the matchmaking to me.

It also does a stupid thing where it boots everybody out of the lobby after a game so you can't play games with the same group of people in matchmaking. Nobody asked for that. If they wanted that, they could just back out themselves. It's some weird shit they added to try to fix their match making and put more people in the pool and lied about in the patch notes to try to make themselves look good. They are morons.

It's just embarrassing. This is now one of the most bungled game launches in history and I highly doubt its ever going to be fixed properly. Well done 343.

At least DICE eventually turned BF 4 into a playable working product. I have a feeling this title will always be hosed.

The next time you log into Halo: The Master Chief Collection, you will be prompted to download the latest content update. This particular content update focuses specifically on matchmaking. Please note that while this update will improve team balance issues, we do not expect it to fully resolve uneven teams.  Our next content update, targeted for early next week, will address team balance.

While today’s update contains several high-priority improvements, we continue to work on additional content updates that will address further items. Below, you’ll find a summary of the updates that are included in today’s update.

Made a change to allow for matches to start once minimum player counts are met, allowing for faster matching times.
Made an update to resolve issues that caused false matches to be created, which resulted in a variety of matchmaking issues, including slow matchmaking and bad session starts.
Streamlined the process for maintaining party continuity through the matchmaking process.
Made an update to the high-level matchmaking flow that will reset lobbies after each match. Moving forward, players and party leaders need to press "B" after the post-game-carnage report, and select a playlist for their next match. This flow is consistent with previous Halo titles.
Improved user experience through removal of non-actionable error messages. This will allow for a more seamless matchmaking flow with less interruption and confusion.
Improved the post-game experience to fix an issue that could result in a player getting sent to another player’s lobby, rather than returning to the matchmaking screen.

We have additional updates on the way in an effort to further improve your experience with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. We thank you for your continued feedback, patience, and support.

Yea, what the fuck at that change. And it isn't "consistent with previous Halo titles," only Halo 2 was like that. 3 onwards rolled your match into the search as a group. So that's 1 Halo game that did that, released in 2004.

What a pathetic piece of shit. They also turned on a switch to let matches start with fewer people, thanks a lot, great solution. A month later and they are still doing fake solutions that don't resolve the core issue - and it STILL doesn't work.

Yeah, it already feels like they are at the stage of hacking shit to "work" without actually fixing it correctly. And lying about it.

I would say its definitely more frustrating than bf 4 even if the level of "brokeness" is even.

BF 4 was broken at launch but it was consistently broken in the same way. You knew how it was broken every time you went to play it.

This is broken in a much more inconsistent manner. Some days it works decently. Other days not at all. And in slightly different ways each day.

I haven't tried playing with the new patch yet, but matchmaking has been working for me for the last several days. It's just that most of the time you get put in uneven games, and it's still incredibly buggy with crashes, failures to connect, and shit like that.

Paying $60 to beta test games. :gloomy

They put the Halo CE 2v2 playlist up today (it goes up to 6 players tho). The last patch made some big improvements to the netcode, and one of my friends told me that the Halo CE playlist runs on dedicated servers. Dunno if that's true, but all of the games I've played so far have been great.

Last month, I promised the Halo and Xbox community that addressing the matchmaking issues and other bugs impacting players’ experience with Halo: The Master Chief Collection was our #1 priority. We’ve been working around the clock deploying weekly content updates and numerous server-side adjustments that have shown good results and we’re encouraged by the feedback we’re hearing from you. Another big hurdle was overcome when we added fan-favorite playlists, such as SWAT and Halo: CE, back to our matchmaking menu and we plan to add more soon. Next week, we’ll release a content update that will add all 10 episodes of the cooperative experience “Spartan Ops” for Halo 4, and will address other issues. I assure you that the team will continue to work on additional content updates to further improve the all-up gameplay experience.

This has been a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can – and need – to do better for Xbox fans around the world. We are so grateful to our fans who have stood by our side and we appreciate all of your patience as we worked through these issues. As a token of our appreciation and to thank fans for the continued support and understanding, we will be offering the following items, for free, to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection online since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).*

1 Month of Xbox Live Gold
Exclusive In-Game Nameplate
Exclusive In-Game Avatar

Additionally, you’ve told us that you want more Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer map content and Halo 3: ODST on Xbox One. As a future bonus, we’re going to make these happen and give them to you for free. We are just now starting work with our partners to bring both to Halo: The Master Chief Collection and will share more specific details on timing in the coming months. But for now, here’s what you can expect:

Halo 3: ODST Campaign – Development has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original “Halo 3: ODST” campaign.

“Relic” Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map – Available via a free content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will reimagine the fan-favorite map “Relic,” fully remastered and running at 1080p resolution and 60fps. We chose this map based on its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes. And you can trust that Certain Affinity will tune and tweak the map to make it even better than you remember.

I finally got into a few matches after having to install this fucking game several times. Fucking game has been broken for me since day one and 343 can burn in a fire.

This was the result of my first match:

Note I don't have any issues with my NAT or connection. This is not what you pay $60 bucks for, and the fact that there still aren't dedicated servers is beyond me.

I bought MC Collection just to play the games again in HD so I'm not annoyed but it's hilarious just how much of a clusterfuck this release was. I've been wanting to reach out to a buddy who was running it to ask what the hell happened but I think the iron is still hot so I'll wait to GDC to find out.
