PUNTA CANA. The director of operations of the International Airport of Punta Cana reported that the rumor concerning a passenger coming from Philadelphia affected by the lethal disease known as Ebola was false.

Walter Zemialkowski, said, however, that it was the passenger himself who announced that he was affected by the disease of the moment, causing the isolation of the aircraft and the intervention of the medical team which ran to the aircraft in hazmat suits.

"I have Ebola, you are all screwed," the bothersome passenger was supposed to have said. Zemialkowski explained that security personnel detained the passenger and took him to the medical health area where he was submitted to a rigorous checkup.

The Ministry of Public Health confirmed that the information that the country had received a person suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus was a false alarm.

"It is absolutely false the information that states that through the Punta Cana Airport a person suspected of being sick with Ebola arrived in our country," said Eduardo Rosario Bourdierd, the communications director for Public Health.

My wife reads some Seattle mom group boards and the responses to one of our hospitals stepping up and offering to take Ebola patients has been amazing. Most people are in support of it, but every so often you'll get some idiot who has no clue what they're talking about and just come off as uneducated and xenophobic. Measles and vaccinations got brought up in a very well-thought out response, but the OP responded with "Ladies, let's please not turn this into a vaccination debate." And then she posted some articles about Ebola from some natural medicine website.

Or MRSAs or ESBLs or VREs because they won't take medications properly or because doctors overprescribe stuff when medications aren't necessary.
Or diabetes being a common thing we test for for in labs lately.  Or symptoms of heart disease.

I get that people are scared, but contracting ebola is fairly rare. Unless you come into contact with someone's poopoo, blood, vomit, or semen (up to 90 days post-recovery)... and got it in a cut/orifice/swallowed it/picked your nose, I dunno.
