Wondering how much is the PS4 exclusivity hurting them with those so-so sales. Honestly no matter how much I'd like it to be true, I'm not certain the barebone features has that much to do with it. Besides it should have some legs.

Naruto 4 on PS4 outsold SFV on PS4.  It's not an exclusive thing.  The game got negative word of mouth and just like Deadpool's positive word of mouth made it a billion dollars, negative word of mouth can really hurt sales.

Could also just be that the masses were not craving that bad for a new fighting game. SFIV bringing some life back in the genre was a bit unexpected, isn't it ? Capcom milked that one pretty hard... Honestly as an outside observer, I would probably wait for the "Gold / Super / GOTY" edition anyway (It will happen, whatever Capcom may say about it).

Cross platform release would probably have mitigated how low the numbers appears, but point taken  that it doesn't seem to be performing super well even relative to its platform of release.

Yes, I think there's a case for this too-- SF3 wasn't as popular and by the time SF4 came out at home, it was almost 10 years later.  Capcom re-ignited interest in fighting games and a lot more followed.  But then they fell back into releasing too many updated versions and interest started falling off.  Besides SFxTK, UMvC3 was also a sore spot for some people since it came out so quickly after MvC3 did.

"arcade mode" is just stand-in for some kind of baseline single player mode. If SF5 had a world tour mode, but no arcade mode no one would give a shit.

It's not that...it's this stupid mentality that just because you don't care about something, nobody else should.  I don't really care if there's an arcade mode but there's no excuse for it or something like it NOT to be in there.  But we've been over this before and everyone over here is sane on this.  ;)

Beyond that, there were also details added regarding the store, noting that not only will Alex and character story costumes be available for purchase, but also character colors. In the image, they list Necalli's "Color 11", so this means that colors beyond the ones currently available through clearing Survival are going to be added.

Why do I get the feeling that only Color 11 and beyond will be purchasable?

SFIV was the first Street Fighter sequel to come out in nearly a decade, there was a lot of hype for SFIV's return on the 360/PS3. Also keep in mind that casual players have had tons of chances to try Street Fighter because of all those editions.

Capcom needed to put in a lot more work and spend a lot more time to make SFV a hit.

Just so we're clear: We're in the same mentality. I just find the numerous "yeah, but who cares about the offline modes tho!?" to be infuriating. Like I said, I don't discount that a bunch of people will drop the game quickly. But I still boot older fighters up to play versus CPU. So the whole lack of that along with other offline modes really stings in regards to a $60 purchase price. :yeshrug

Even then, the non-characters aren't worth the asking price if you're trying to get the characters for "free." The asking price for everything seems just utter insanity and stupid grind for wins online.

Naw.  Still too early for this.

It's either coming this week or it's coming next week-- there is another major tourney this coming weekend -NCR- for them to show a trailer if they're even gonna go that route.  If it doesn't happen...then it's time for fanboy rage.

That whole thing last night was nothing but Final Round's own Shin Blanka and Capcom's Haunts -formerly from ATL- trolling everybody.  Haunts would not be the one to make this kind of announcement.

Haunts would not be the one to make this kind of announcement.

But he works for Capcom. Surely he and combofiend would be pushing for them to give the update... date... ASAP. :confused

They said the update with Alex was coming... what... the third? The tenth? Sometime a bit earlier this month. We're nearly at the end of March and it's been a month since the game launched bare-bones. Surely they should be pushing content out as fast as possible to get their house-on-fire launch quenched.

Edit: Ah, yeah. The 10th. So it's been nearly 11 days since they announced it with still no date in sight.

Haunts isn't a PR guy.  He was there to handle the Capcom Fighters stream and perhaps also there because ATL is his old haunts, no pun intended.  I used to hang out with him a bit years ago.  He worked at a Gamestop down the street from me.  Was amazing seeing him go so far within the community and to end up working at Capcom.

Did I ever mention anything on the Mad Catz PS4 fightpad?  I ended up returning it and tried the newer Hori Fighting Commander, which is a really good pad (and made to work on PS3/PS4/PC).  I still prefer the PS3 SFxTK Mad Catz fightpad, but the Hori is a nice improvement from the FC4 and worth it for anyone who can't get an older controller.

http://www.capcom-unity.com/haunts/blog/2016/03/24/sfv-march-update---release-date-and-new-details

TL;DR version: Patch rolls out next Monday; in-game shop and Alex are up next Wednesday.  Alex will be made free for everyone to use until the shop is updated to use real money.  Ryu and Chun's story mode outfits will be made free (as in no in-game fight money needed) and season pass holders are going to get an additional stage to play on.

Hey everyone!

We have some exciting news to share today: the long awaited March update that contains Alex will be releasing next week in two separate drops. Hit the jump for more details!

The first drop will take place on March 28 (MON) and contains the following content:

(Image removed from quote.)

    Challenge Mode
Demonstrations: Learn the ins and outs of Street Fighter V through helpful demonstration and tutorial content. Contains content for each of the 16 characters, as well as advice geared towards players of all skill levels:
Beginner Tutorials: 12 lessons covering, movement, normal attacks, special attacks, V-System, throws, counter hits, chip/recoverable damage, etc.
Intermediate Tutorials: 11 lessons covering projectiles, invincibility frames, armor and armor break, recovery, cross-up attacks, anti-air options, etc.
Advanced Tutorials: 4 lessons covering back dashing, frame advantage/disadvantage, combo potential, button priority, etc.
Character Tutorials: 16 lessons covering each individual character.
Trials: Put your skills to the ultimate test with combo trials for all 16 characters, ranging from basic to pro combos.  Completing Trials will also earn you some extra Fight Money.

    Online Rematch Option
Salty from a close loss online? Want revenge?  Players can now play a 2/3 set in Ranked Match and Casual Matches, provided both players accept the rematch.

    Battle Lounge Improvements
Enjoy up to 8 person lobbies, complete with match spectating.
    Bug fixes and gameplay balancing
Various game bugs have been fixed, along with minor gameplay balancing. For more details please see the previous post.

(Image removed from quote.)

The second drop will take place on March 30 (WED) at 10AM PT and contains the following content:

Alex + related character story content
    In-Game Shop
Fight Money Expenditure: Spend your hard earned Fight Money to purchase extra game content, such as DLC characters (100,000 FM each) and the Story Mode Costumes (40,000 FM each).

One feature that will not be making it into the March update will be the Zenny (real money) functionality of the in-game shop. We have taken a long hard look at this part of the store, and after much review, have decided it is not ready to launch just yet. As Zenny is purchased with real money, we wanted to be extra careful and make sure it’s fully tested and optimized before launching it. There is currently no ETA on the Zenny store and we will release it as soon as it’s ready.

We realize that this causes an inconvenience to fans who want to purchase the DLC characters, such as Alex, but do not have enough Fight Money or own the Season Pass.  To address this, we will be making Alex available for free as a trial period to all players, until the Zenny shop launches.  This also will apply to any future DLC character that releases prior to the Zenny shop launching. Once the Zenny shop launches, the free trial for any DLC characters that released prior to the Zenny shop opening will end, and players will need to either use Fight Money, Zenny, or the Season Pass to access those characters.

Any DLC character related content (such as costumes) that is purchased with Fight Money during the trial period will remain in your account once the trial period ends, but you’ll need to purchase Alex to use that content. The same goes for colors and character progress, etc. that are earned during the trial period; everything will be saved, you’ll just need to purchase the character to resume your progress once the trial period ends.

As a special bonus to our Season Pass users, they will be the only ones who will be able to access the premium costumes of the DLC characters until the Zenny shop launches, and they also get to keep character access once the free trial period ends. Additionally, we will be giving all Season Pass users a free, brand new stage in the near future!

(Image removed from quote.)

Finally, as a way of saying thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding throughout the beta phases and game launch we will be making Ryu and Chun-Li’s story mode costumes available for free to all users on March 30 as well.  This is an 80,000 Fight Money value, almost the full value of a DLC character.

Thank you for continuing to support Street Fighter V and we promise that the game will continue to improve from here on out. More new updates, fixes and support for other pressing issues like rage quitters are in the works and we hope to have more information to share soon.

Until next time!

The update is live and is over 6GB, so if PS4 downloads take you a while, you're gonna be waiting a long time.

Battle lounges are loading up for me faster so far, however I just tried a multi-user lounge and the match didn't start, booting us all back to the menu.  Could be one of the other connections, though, as one guy has a Puerto Rico flag.

If you check around, costume leaks are up as is footage of Alex.   :doge

Tutorials are pretty bad, as expected. Basically smashing X while it shows you these but takes a while to actually show them. I'll have to boot up VF4: Evo but I can't recall the tutorial just sitting there showing you. It does and it explains the moves in a text-box THEN lets you "play" the video (unlike SF5 where it does it while you're reading. WTF?) but also makes you attempt to do what they just taught you.

Oh well. Free 10,000 FM or whatever for 20 mins work.

Yes, that's the worst part. I'mma gonna do Alex's survivals later but then I have to blow through Chun/Ryu's Story Outfits on Easy-Hard again. It blows goats. Whoever at Capcom decided that should be fired.

Also the store prices for the Profile Colors and Titles is insane. 5000 a pop.

Alex seems pretty good, but his appearance kind of sucks.  Alt outfits aren't that much better.

The only character that sucked in 4's cast when it came to playing was Rufus. His playstyle and strengths aren't that interesting.

Hakan can be fucking scary if the other player gets in your head or plays random enough. Only other grappler besides T.Hawk that has great mobility.

Haggar should have his MvC3 style. Rekka specials, and his command grab should be a launcher for different stuff. His V-Trigger should give him the pipe, when used it causes hit stun and can be cancelled into any of his other specials.

RAGE QUIT SYSTEM

We’re also happy to announce that we will be implementing a system to punish players who frequently disconnect during matches (aka rage quitters).

The way this will work is the system will identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches and will lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time. Players who have been identified as abusing the system will receive an in-game message notifying them they have been locked out of matchmaking. More additions and enhancements to this system will be implemented in the future.

:cmonson

I know you've never actually played it, but the game is ready for tournaments.  It's everyone else that they dropped the ball on.    :doge

These are extra characters and there's more coming past them, too.  I'm gonna play defense here-- they never stated exactly  when these characters would be coming out beyond Alex, to my knowledge, but here goes people losing their shit over one character not releasing when they thought it would.

What's unbelievable here is that we are about to hit June and they still don't even have the shop up yet.  :lol

iirc they did say there would be a character every month in their timeline or w/e. also i can't wait to see the reactions online from those not in the know when the shop goes online and people lose the characters they got for free.

edit: so a character almost every month http://i2.wp.com/shoryuken.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/sfv-dlc-schedule.jpg
