Yays
+ At the end of the year, I will be 2/3s of the way done with my MBA.
+ Started getting into investing.  It's taking a beating right now but overall I'm still way up.
+ I may have a girlfriend for the first time in a while.  I started seeing her over two months ago.  She's pretty much everything I wanted in a girl physically and mentally.
+ I barely spent any time on the internet.  I thank this point for the previous point because I met her while I was out and about instead of dicking around online.  Who knew that putting yourself out there would improve your chances?
+ Made more money than ever.
+ Still debt free :rock
+ Got my PMP and took it during a heavy work and class load.  I'm not sure how useful it will be in the long term but it seems to be a hot item right now.
+ Read a lot of books.  I thank the Kindle Paperwhite for that.

Nays
- Got passed up for a promotion that I was a shoo-in for (see the struggle thread).  I feel like I'm stagnating at my current position.  I'm likely going to need to find another job in 2015.  That could be very interesting.
- Probably my busiest year ever.  I wound up getting headaches and heartburn regularly.  Fortunately classical music of all things wound up fixing it.  Going to need to improve my time and stress management further for 2015.
- Pretty much stopped gaming.  A shame that I bought all those new consoles but I'm not going to sell them.

Gays
~ One of my neighbors in my apartment complex is gay.  Him and his boyfriend have loud sex pretty often.

Nay.

Hopefully I'll get to work at a better paying job next year. There's a big corporate office in my area that has a job opening so I'll definitely be applying to that once I finish revamping my portfolio.

Aside from the city and state flooding my basement, Yay for my family.

Nay for all our friends and relatives. Unexpected deaths, multiple friends' parents passing away and lots of cancer. 2014 can fuck off because of that.

yay for the most part.

YAYS:
did writing for the website which i'd previously only done photography for and several of my pieces ended up being the most popular things on the site

went from knowing practically nothing about wrestling to convincing people to let me come take photos of their matches and portraits of their wrestlers (then having those photos use for promotional purposes by the company and wrestlers) and convincing my editors to let the photos run on our website (then having those become the most popular things on the website)

celebrated living w/ my girlfriend for 5 years (we've been together for 7 years now)

have continued to work at my awesome job in a capacity which is vital and exciting

NAYS:
took on a bit more debt than i wanted to this year so next year is an attempt to pay it down aggressively.

i want a new camera but i can't afford one.  anyone have a spare 3k laying around?

my favorite venue in Brooklyn closed and the people who ran it scattered to the winds thanks to the new Brooklyn real estate making literally nowhere convenient affordable. i dread losing my apartment.

don't have as much time to write as i'd like

GAYS:
i know some gay people. they're p cool.

Yanay?  Nayay?

Meh would be the best description

+ now Production Lead at my company (this just happened a week or so ago). In the course of a year and a half I went from QA Specialist, to Production Coordinator, to Production Lead.  A whole mess of responsibilities that a 25 year old in this industry isn't used to having.  It's gonna be a crazy year next year!
+ along with that, a considerable pay raise.  Yay to not being fucking broke!
+ Since December of last year, I have lost 30 pounds.  I weighed in at 180 during last year's Thanksgiving, and this past week I hit 150 again.  It's a great feeling.  I feel much more attractive now.
+ Was able to travel a bit this year – California, New York, Atlanta.  Next year should be an even bigger year for travel
+ Moved out of the shitty (albeit cheap) house I was living in.  Now loving with a wonderful lesbian in a cute townhouse.  So much cleaner then my last place.
+ Sister bought her own place.  Not a big win for me but it shows my family is growing and maturing, and I love that
+ Steelers are playing well, Lebron is back in Cleveland
+ Credit score is finally above average.  It was dreadful last year, now its above 700.

- Related to the first pro -- terrified of my new job.  Really hoping I can stay afloat.  The person who just left this position had been doing this sort of work for 10+ years, and was 45.  I'm 25 working on my first year of this sort of work.  Gulp
- Relationships are still just the worst
- Worst year for my anxiety, panic attacks, and self consciousness
- Starting to learn about some really shitty stories about my extended family -- alcohol and sexual abuse, money disputes, awful circumstances in the past.  Painting the family outside of my immediate one as something that I never envisioned
- Sex was all but defunct this year.  Once every three months or so :'(
- 4 of my 5 best friends are now engaged to be married.  The other one is gay in a deep red state
- Quarter-life crises are a real fucking thing

Lost my last one this year. :gloomy

Uh, well on the Yay side we went to Vegas for a weekish and wandered about including a afternoon/night smashed on the main strip, that was pretty cool. Went to the Saturday show of the NYC Miku Expo and met up with a bunch of bros who gather to stream tunes every Monday night, that was absolutely wonderful.

On the Nay side school is no super great, I had to drop a course in Spring and relationship wise things were really awful for a bit during that time frame. Upon going for a return to schooling I had two ideas and went with the one I was less keen on but seemed more viable. Found out the certificate I was going for would not equal to getting any work so I moved to the supposedly two year version of that. Then had aforementioned crap and had a tough time focusing and really wished I'd gone for other option cause that is what I really wanted to do and still do. Saw an ad for doing it in the spring and went 'augh'. Then took the Summer of cause Spring was such a fucking mess and I needed to chill a bit. Fall stuffs finals are this week, I almost didn't go this semester cause last one was kind of rough and left me full of doubt. Hell I still want to do the other thing, it's two more years of shit for me either way. Conferred with other half on this a bit and they were not keen very very much to my chagrin, so I am basically carrying on with something I have little to no interest in and have no desire to do eating up time and funds I could throw at what I wanna be after.

Gay I guess would be everyone vying to see who is the most offended/outraged/victimized ala Gamergate and such? Whatever.

2014 has turned into a very challenging year for me and loved ones. My biggest challenge continues to be my weight. And even though I exercise regularly the stressors in my life continue to test me emotionally and physically. My educational standing hasn't helped me find work or keep a steady position.

So I can only hope 2015 is a great year for personal growth. I've struggled a lot and I don't want to any longer. I'm going to be 30 this next year and I'm not married, don't have children, and nothing to fall back onto. I'll soon truly be alone and I'm scarred by that thought.

Yay:

+ Finished school
+ moved back to Atlanta
+ got a promotion/raise at the job I'd been working at, which is all working from home, which is awesome as fuck
+ have been doing some open mic nights and have been funny so far
+ got my first booking for a show in February

Nay:

- more family drama; mom lost her job, sister had another kid
- my ex got cancer; she made it through treatment and ultimately should be fine; it was still scary
- dating has been lame and bullshit; I'm pretty much ignoring that aspect of my life right now. If it happens it happens but it's not anything I feel I can put energy into and have it be productive, so I'll focus my attention elsewhere
- I'm an independent contractor, so I'm responsible for all of my payroll taxes and health care. Also, no paid time off, which sucks.

Better than the last 2 years but that's not saying much.

Yay:
- Got to work from home quite a bit this year
- My job's been interesting and throwing new challenges at me
- My youngest was able start school in a special program and he's really flourishing in it
- Instead of having big emergencies like last year, this one was a year of a bunch of small ones. The net impact is the same but it's easier to take several small emergencies rather than a few huge ones

Nay:
- I can't seem to get a leg up on things, every time I get a little ahead something beats me way down
- Medical expenses this year, urg
- 6 weeks in Philly
- A few deaths in the family
- No promotion...yet

Gay:
- I wish

This was kinda like a filler year for me... nothing super interesting but nothing that bad happened.

Yay
- got a new car!
- got to visit Montreal
- our beta client seems very happy with me and my team's software
- re-started going to the gym

Nay
- been putting in a lot of hours and time at work, not being sure where things will lead... hopefully when all is said and done and our software goes to market, I'll get a big bonus or a nice payraise (I make decent money as is, but could definitely use more $$)
- owe $9600 next year for a new roof, stupid HOA

Gay
- my family friend's boyfriend proposed to him, so looks like I'll be going to my first gay wedding next year!
^_^

Well, let's see...

Yay:

- Got a raise at the start of the year and we'll be taking on some new responsibilities and learning new programs so that I'll be getting an addition, actually higher raise soon after.
- Finally went back to school after having to re-apply.
- Was able to attend E3 this year without getting sick.
- Got some nice opportunities to hang out with my cousin who I barely see at all nowadays.
- Had two girls actually approach me and for MY number for once. That was pretty awesome.
- Started watching Arrow, probably my favorite live action show currently.
- Despite my horrible work ethic, my blog has gotten more attention by big name websites and media outlets and has been plugged more times than last year.

Nay:

- While work itself is actually fine and dandy, we moved to a new building that's become a much bigger pain in the ass to commute to. And our parking situation fucking sucks.
- I majorly screwed up on one of the two classes I took this semester. Ironically it was the one that I thought was gonna be an easy A. The other one, which I thought was gonna give me trouble was one that I actually kicked ass in. Funny how that works out.
- Playing the Smash Bros. demo at E3 and being disappointed ruined E3 for me. Couldn't enjoy anything else after that.
- Both those girls that asked me for my number never spoke to me again after meeting them.  :-\
- I reached a new record on going on shitty (and expensive) dates.
- Car's been acting distinguished mentally-challenged with the gas, and my mechanic can't figure out exactly why.
- Got a huge dental bill, even with insurance. Ugh.

Gay:

- Hung out with one of my close, gay friends for Thanksgiving. That was kinda fun.

Overall, I'd have to give this year a solid NAY. Fucking up this semester at the last minute really sealed the deal.

Yay:

-Made progress towards a short term goal I had - preparing to substitute teach for a friend who is having surgery. Part of the reason I started therapy was to deal with anxiety, and I'm definitely ready to go. Will start in January.
-Got a promotion early in the year, will get another soonish
-Had a fun relationship for awhile
-Got the Larry David of cats
-Avoided personal life drama on multiple occasions

Nay:
-My favorite uncle died. Every time I go to a family event I find myself automatically heading towards the back area, expecting him to be where he'd always be - in the back chilling, waiting to talk about conspiracy theories, Rome, James Bond, Dracula, and ridiculous Bible shit. RIP Uncle Garland.
-Arousal issues
-Increase in work related drama, ten fold. You've got to be quite a piece of shit to be a man, work in a professional setting, and not feel empathy for female coworkers. Whether it's "minor" stuff or bigger things, some of the shit you see just baffles the mind. At this rate I'll have firing power very soon, and best believe I had quite a few interns in mind for shitcanning over this.

Overall: Yay. Way better than last year and the year before. One death vs multiple, no family drama, etc.

+ Finished university after way too many years
+ Happy with my girlfriend of 7 years, living together for 4 years
+ Finishing university improved my relations with my family, less because they were giving me shit and more because I feel like less of a failure

- Couldn't get a job yet and propects aren't too good as my humanities degree is more or less worthless and I'm not the type to hustle himself into a job or has loads of contacts where something could materialise (which seems the way most of my study friends got jobs)
- Still can't handle my general problem which is some combination of social anxiety/general indeceiveness/phlegma/ADHS/justbeingalazybum.
- A much needed holiday didn't materialise because my girlfriend was blocked by her workspace at the last minute.

Overall better than last year cause finishing university means there is huge boulder of my shoulder, however I can watch repeating mistakes and I might move myself back into a similar situation which could in the long term damage my social relationships.

I can barely walk today, for serious. My neck is at this painful angle. I might need to see someone.

On the plus side you can probably score some pills for that

Every year is shit for the world. Be glad we're living in one of the safest and least war ridden periods in human history. There's not a time I'd rather be born in than now. Now that my options are large as a black guy!

thank you

people, please don't conflate hearing every last bit of up-to-the-second news about bad shit with the world being a generally worse place.  The bad shit is emphasized by the news because that's what gets hits/viewers.  It's a product they're selling like anything else, it's not the entirety of reality.  At least now we can know a fair bit more and ideally do a better job holding each other accountable, or at least get that shit out there as accessible knowledge.

You've got teaching qualifications PD? I know more about Michigan special ed and state assessments than anyone should ever care to know :P

For substitute teachers, yup.

Going to be teaching an accounting class at a community college for a few weeks.

I don't know what to vote. For the world, 2014 has been utter shit. For me, it was pretty good.

Can't better the world if you aren't in a better position yourself

last-minute finger-fucked: 2014 can eat a buffet of dicks, and considering what I have to do tomorrow, 2015 can hit the dessert bar, too.

This year had a lot of good things, but they all came riding along on the back of bad things. I’m happy to focus on those good things, but I’d have been willing to go without the good things, if it meant the bad things which allowed for them instead didn’t happen.

But they did, and I did alright, so I’m grateful.

- lost my stepfather after a grueling 3 week struggle in the ICU in Turkey
- didn’t make much money

+ spent a lot of time with my Mom
+ visited Turkey and made new friends
+ circled the world for the first time in my life; start-to-finish was 62 days
+ saw relatives I’d not seen in more than 10 years
+ turned in my first 4 projects for my new company
+ joined a gym and lost 7kg
