Yes, yes it does. If you do not "put the moves" on a girl very early on she will see you as a friend only and nothing more.

There is exceptions to this rule but this in nearly all cases is what happens.

Ill be honest and say its an understatment when I say that I know nothing about relationships, but what the fuck should I assume after all that.

Well, I did ask this girl out last semester and it was after that, that she said she wanted to be friends. Then I just stoped talking to her.

If she has done that and you haven't put any sort of moves on her at all then no it's not friends zone. It means your are an idiot.

But if you did put moves on her and she backed away, it means she just wants you there as a back up, which is useless for you.

Which is what I was advising PD for. If you feel that you need to make a move, by all means go for it as long as it feels natural.

Well there ARE girls a person CAN just be friends with. I suppose there is a technical rule that in order to exist in the 'friend zone', you have to have 'more than friend' feelings while being a friend. Whether or not you are stuck depends on various factors.

Being PLACED in the friend zone, ie the girl secretely knows you have feelings for her but has decided you will stay her friend, means you are stuck there. It means that somewhere along the way you failed one of the more arbitrary marks. However, you DO serve a utilitarian function, like a can-opener, in that you are a relatively neutral party that will comfort her when times are rough, and aide her while she rallies against failed relationships.

Then there's the mutual friend zone where two parties both, sometimes verbally, agree that staying friends in the best. This is usually the best way because it doesnt = someone manipulating an emo sap that cant let go.

I mean I guess I can agree its complicated, but the ZONE itself is pretty clearly mapped.

But I do need to be straight forward from now on. In fact the next chance I get im going to ask her what the deal between us is.
