Extremely proud of my Greek team, AEK Athens. Ever since we got relegated to the third division 2 years ago due to financial troubles, we tried overhauling our play style and focusing on young Greek players instead of the big european team leftovers Greek teams usually get (Afellay is horrible). It all paid off yesterday, where we decimated Greek champions Olympiakos and ended up getting a 1-1 draw at their home. The draw is sweeter because Olympiakos fans underestimated our capabilities, since we're still a second divison team and our net player value is four times less than theirs. What I saw from AEK last night, is something I haven't seen since the Rivaldo era of our team. Fast pace, short passes, emphasis on counter attacks, high pressure, and overall unbelievable team chemistry. It's like our coach is following Klopp's every step in Dortmund's transformation. We could have won the game if the ref didn't fuck us over (including the non existent free kick he called, which lead to their goal). As a sidenote, corrupt refereeing and Olympiakos go together like pb&j for years now. It's what makes the Greek league such a shitshow, since we don't even get exposes like the infamous Calciopoli which ended up relegating Juventus and penalizing other Serie A teams.
I'm sure you've all seen Olympiakos play during the Champions League some time this season, and know teams like Juventus and Atletico lost to them. It's an incredible accomplishment for this inexperienced, young team that's being built right now. Even if we don't progress in the second leg, I know we're on the right path. It goes to show soccer is all about team chemistry and working as a unit, and not spending (or even wasting) money on players that won't even coalesce as a complete team in the first place.
With that said, fuck Olympiakos and fuck Van Gaal.
