I think what I was drunkenly trying to communicate last night is I see the same drive in Ronaldo that I see in MJ.

Actually more because that video insinuates that he was to treated like a geek until he hit his 20's. Can't hate on the dudes swag.

Like I said...I'm no pro level soccer fan....I saw Ronaldo break the USA's hearts with a 65' cross pass that curved damn near 90° and hit his dude in stride.

:ohhh

I saw Zidane headbutt the shit out some dude....I loved that shit

:lawd

In my limited sample size of two world cups and a couple of YouTube videos I have realized;

1) I really fucking like futbol

2) Ronaldo passes the eye test. I dig that on pitch "I'm the best dude out here" swagger he has.

Few footballers since Diego Maradona have had the fusion of bronca and brilliance that can make for a one-man team: Steven Gerrard occasionally, Cristiano Ronaldo maybe, Rivaldo certainly. At times around the turn of the century he was impossible to play against, and never more so than here. The quality of the goals was outstanding, but the context made his performance legendary.

That whole piece gave me goosebumps.

Shit first half. No connection at all. But that's what happens when you set a team out with 1 midfielder.

Like I said...I'm no pro level soccer fan....I saw Ronaldo break the USA's hearts with a 65' cross pass that curved damn near 90° and hit his dude in stride.

Ronaldo (and Messi) is GOAT level if he retired right today. Don't let them tell you otherwise. If they never win a world cup it is not a slight on their resume because of how difficult it is to win a title in the modern international game.

i will be absolutely thrilled if we get top 4. i don't have anymore confidence in LVG to get this right.

nobody can shine because of LVGs baffling lineups & substitutions. minimal effort until we go behind. just one crap performance after another that isn't worth waking up early on the weekends to watch.

there is nothing in the world better than seeing man u supporters have the rug of assumed glory pulled out from underneath them.

maybe find a club with some actual substance to them beyond shitty team sheet graphics and supporters who stare at their phone for half the match.

shit club full of primadonnas playing for their next cheque, fulled by the wallets of glory hunters the world over who aren't even getting what they paid for.

Marco Reus just signed an extension with Dortmund until 2019. The contract is apparently without an opt out clause.

In any case he is leaving money on the table because he would have gotten a nice "hand money" if he would have used the cheap opt out clause from his old contract.

I don't think he will leave Dortmund this summer. Maybe he wants to join Barca next year. Dortmund could refinance the financial loss of missing cl season 15/16 that way.

I believe so lol

as for PL vs. La Liga, tbh the PL is a lot easier to follow for you just because it's all in english. the fuckery, cultural stuff and journalism is all easy to follow. It might be true that La liga teams seem to have had a lot of success in the big european competitions but hey. And every single game gets play on NBSCN, especially if you have AT&T, they'll play it on the alternate channels.

Being a la liga fan is pretty bleak unless you're a fan of Barcelona, Madrid, or Atletico Madrid honestly. Sevilla or Villareal might be lined up for europa league glory from time to time or win the league but that feels like about it. Also you need BeIn sports to follow it in the US.

If I'm gonna be a futbol fan I'm straight up starting out a front runner. It's either Messi's team or Ronaldo's man. I would watch with the sound off when I worked out anyway so the language barrier isn't a big issue to me.

Teams I will not be fans of: Chelsea, Man U, Man City, ,Ashton Villa, Barcelona, And the other Madrid team.

Teams I am considering: Newcastle, Real Madrid, or Liverpool or 2 out of the 3.

My 100,000 feet view

Premiere League: Skills, substance over style, huge crowds, great announcers.

LA Live: Speed, style over substance, fucking Ronaldo AND Messi, good for workouts (no sound)

As for the US: Gotta go with Columbus right? Own state an all.

Oh yeah: Fucking whoever the Hot Spurs are...cunts

Extremely proud of my Greek team, AEK Athens. Ever since we got relegated to the third division 2 years ago due to financial troubles, we tried overhauling our play style and focusing on young Greek players instead of the big european team leftovers Greek teams usually get (Afellay is horrible). It all paid off yesterday, where we decimated Greek champions Olympiakos and ended up getting a 1-1 draw at their home. The draw is sweeter because Olympiakos fans underestimated our capabilities, since we're still a second divison team and our net player value is four times less than theirs. What I saw from AEK last night, is something I haven't seen since the Rivaldo era of our team. Fast pace, short passes, emphasis on counter attacks, high pressure, and overall unbelievable team chemistry. It's like our coach is following Klopp's every step in Dortmund's transformation. We could have won the game if the ref didn't fuck us over (including the non existent free kick he called, which lead to their goal). As a sidenote, corrupt refereeing and Olympiakos go together like pb&j for years now. It's what makes the Greek league such a shitshow, since we don't even get exposes like the infamous Calciopoli which ended up relegating Juventus and penalizing other Serie A teams.

I'm sure you've all seen Olympiakos play during the Champions League some time this season, and know teams like Juventus and Atletico lost to them. It's an incredible accomplishment for this inexperienced, young team that's being built right now. Even if we don't progress in the second leg, I know we're on the right path. It goes to show soccer is all about team chemistry and working as a unit, and not spending (or even wasting) money on players that won't even coalesce as a complete team in the first place.

With that said, fuck Olympiakos and fuck Van Gaal.

I think it's a balance.

obviously we've seen really amazing punching above their weight from Atletico and Dortmund in the last few years. On some level it does prove that yes, organization and tactics and players groomed for a real system can trump mass financial / 'talent' disparities. On the other hand look at who actually went home with those CL trophies. But yeah if you don't have the cash you should really just triple down on youth development. Its something I think Serie A squads really need to start prioritizing.

I totally agree with you. I think another crucial element is recruiting a competent manager that you can trust. You have no idea how many smaller teams I've seen in Greece and other European leagues that instantly sack the manager when things go awry or the team simply doesnt meet their goals for the season. A manager learns from their mistakes, especially if theyre relatively new to the profession. There will be ups and downs. Having a suitable manager for multiple years, one with work ethic, discipline, and a plan is a vital part of how smaller teams subvert expectations.

I should accentuate on how I agree that there must be a balance. Look at Dortmund. We all know Klopp is highly capable but he has subpar,  lackadaisical players that don't fully abide by his philosophy.

Yeah, I still have faith that Van Gaal's plan/vision is not even close to being complete, which is why he's still experimenting around. On the other hand, PL is an extremely dynamic and unpredictable league, which is why I wish he can go for some safer formations and lineups, and leave the experimenting for when we have a safe cushion in the top 4 or even relegate it to cup matches at this point.

For example, Herrera should be starting PL games and maybe try out Rooney as a CM or whatever on league 1 teams and not vice versa.

Yeah you bring up a good point. Never considered Klopp just picking duds as replacements which lead to this. You'd think with all those players sold he'd do have a serious budget to pick players at the same level. Fwiw, I don't remember how these players performed in their previous teams but I don't really remember them being highlights either.

As for evolving your style, that also takes time. I don't think a season is enough time when you have shitty players. Hopefully he can do it at another competent team since he's inevitably leaving. I'd love to see Gooner tears if he goes to Tottenham :hitler

Fuuuuuuu whyyyy we needed someone with experience to carry/lead not another talent

Im fine with us being a young team, nothing more you can expect on a budget (65 mil) that is smaller that off burnley but we should have some experience in there if we want to put up a fight.

It has a very steep learning curve but you'll learn a lot about the sport if you stick with it. It does a great job simulating play styles and player performances. You'll soon know Man City is the WOAT team of the league.

I feel a useful tip is to strengthen your training staff and scouts ASAP. If you're gonna build a nice youth academy, focus on coaches with a high working with youngsters attribute.

I also advise you play as a shittier team since Man U is already established and may make the game a tad boring. It's more satisfying to bring up Newcastle (if that's who you're supporting) or even a second/third division team. It'll force you to learn what tactics work for your team rather than rely on individual talent.

Thanks guys....restarted as Newcastle. We kinda broke and I'm trying to get the gist of formations. Wife already hates the game so I know it's good.
YMMV

The classic "I'm not racist... but", too. Impressive.
