The Doors appreciation thread

Shout out to one of the best ever at their peak. I expect hate, but that's ok, they were hated in their own time. While the rest of the lame flower child frippery was plaguing rock music they were making post apocalyptic, psychedelic, nihilist swag :rejoice . too much direction. too epic. too full of intent :aah they were able to romanticize experience. They might have had a very very short peak before the drugs kicked in and their souls were drained out, but yeah. best of their generation

the moral ambiguity :rejoice

morrison's irish folk style iambic pentameter delivery :rejoice

the jazz inspired drums and mini-leitmotif :rejoice

I appreciate. If you don't like The Doors I don't like you. :gun
Crazy weird moody trippy stuff by dudes with different interesting musical pedigrees.

I'll admit that they really let themselves go, jesus christ. The self indulgence of the 70s stuff is so :holeup and Morrison himself is full of ::)

Yeah, but them first few albums tho, holy fuck. :bow

Great in concept, not so great in execution, and are generally loved by teenagers, who on the totem pole of "people who know anything" are on the bottom right below toddlers and elderly dementia patients.

He also thought getting really fat and wearing a big dumb fake beard were good ideas in his later days, so yeah.

the problem i have with them is their keyboard player's keyboard noodling sounds to me a lot like my own keyboard noodling and i'm awfully bad at keyboard.

Not only are the shitty keyboards among the biggest problems with the band, but Ray Manzarek is also an awful cunt that has fought hard to try to make sure The Doors secure a legacy. Much like the KKK, most people today recognize The Doors as a joke, but they similarly will probably never completely go away :(

Their first and last (Morrison) albums are undeniable classics. Everything in between is at least listenable with a few great tracks mixed in.

I wouldn't say I stan for Xiu Xiu, although I've probably see Jamie live more than any other act. I'm just a pathos addict and he's good at delivering. Some acceptable violence in there, here and there, too.

I can stop lying, I can stop punching my own face
 I can stop stealing money,
I can stop hating my own heart
 I can do it
 Because of you
I can stop scratching up my cheeks
I can stop drinking so much
I can stop wanting to kill myself
I can stop wanting your perfect heart
I can start listening, I can say Hi
 I can feel something good

If we're looking at classic rock for virtuosity we've already lost.

it's less about virtuosity and more about musicality, i.e. whether it is or it ain't got that swing.
