Advice Bore - Contract says three weeks notice, can only give two

So the job I have now, have been here for 6 months, is... not what they sold it as in the interview. And I am a diligent interviewee, I ask a ton of questions about the company and what future projects I'd be involved in.

They told me I'd head the Level 1 and 2 guys as Senior Sys admin. Great.

Start work... they're in the process of hiring guys... so I'm level 1 2 and 3...\

Ok, fine, they say a few months before they hire my desktop support guys. No problem, I'll fix printers and migrate you physical servers to ESXi. No issue.

Its been 6 months.

So, I've been offered a position at a pretty huge music firm here in Montreal (not going to say whom here) but they need me to start on the 9th.

15 days away starting tomorrow.

I got an email offer from the new company saying that it was conditional on the signing of a contract, which I have yet to receive (this was yesterday).

Knowing how slow HR is, I'm not expecting this contract till the middle of next week.

I'm not giving my notice till that contact is signed, but that won't let me give the full 15 days (calendar, business wasn't specified in my contract).

What I do?

Meh, they clearly used you. I see no reason for your to give them 3 weeks personally.

Worst thing that may happen is your severance/pay is reduced but as you're starting a new job you can probably afford it.

Give three weeks notice, then just don't show up for the last week.

Seeing as its in the contract, what legal recourse do they have?

well I'm not too familiar with Canadian laws but here in the US it's usually not worth the financial investment to fight the breach. When I was in big corporate america they never held people to contracts unless they were scientists/senior level execs or people with immense knowledge that could harm the company, impact their business, or tarnish their name. IT usually has none of these.

I like that Windows 8.1 has hyper-v built in. You can also use the manager to connect and manage other server 2012 hyper-v's instead of having to rdp into the machine. Supports live migration too. .
