the amount of story padding in skyward sword is legendary
« on: February 25, 2015, 11:42:09 AM »
basically like this (except I am missing a lot of stuff)

-first do some stupid flying ceremony
-chase zelda for 3 dungeons filled with fetch quests
-fetch quests for key shards
-fetch quests for different songs (that you have go through fake dungeons for)
-kill same boss for about 5 times
-fetch quests for the water dragon
-fetch quest for finding all the dragons
-fetch quest for levias
-do fetch quests for all of the dragons
-fetch quests for the triforce

etc
etc

And this is just for the main story. I never seen this amount of boring crap in an adventure game before.

Did you like the part where moblins camp out on the lava zone to protect the mcguffin you're looking for, then mysteriously all vanish and take all their camp equipment with them in no time.

Or when you have to go back to the first dungeon in the game to fill up a bottle with water.

O how the rewards for every single fetch quest side quest are boring "gratitude crystals" that you trade for items in a set order instead of being able to find stuff in any order.

You should play the order if you want a game that breaks the current trend of adding content padding.

I'm a lifelong Zelda simp, so much of that was old hat. It wasn't until they made me do those stupid tear hunts that I became annoyed.

Twilight Princess is easily my favorite 3D Zelda. The beginning is incredibly plodding, and there's no justification for the slow burn. But once you were able to travel around Hyrule freely, I couldn't stop playing. Hyrule felt fun to explore and gawk at again, Ocarina of Time has aged so poorly regarding world building. There were times where I amazed by the environments and the scale of everything in TP, I played Twilight Princess in 2009/2010, far into last gen.

Never played Skyward Sword, and have no ambition to. Everything about it paints it as the most oddball 3D Zelda that's inconsistent as hell.

There is so much tedious padding, and of course the forced waggle controls are a major fucking pain in the ass in spots. :yuck

Seriously I don't get the amount of padding it's really just ridiculous and there's really no reason at all for it. But it's insane. Having to fight demise so many times. All those damned fetch quests. I like a slow burn (hell, Dragon Quest VII is one of my favorite games) but man it's insane there's just so much inanity.

The shame of it is that visually it's one of my favorite Zeldas. And that fourth dungeon is probably my favorite dungeon from all Zelda games. But there's just no reason for it to be as padded as it is.

Nah, Wind Waker (outside of the triforce hunt) is way better than Twilight Princess for my buck.

Windwaker at its best was sailing at night and approaching a hurricane/tornado. Open sea + storm always makes me scared. Zelda as a series scares me more than the majority of horror games, the moon in Majora's Maks fills me with dread and anxiety.

Wide open water spaces in Zelda always freak me out.

Never played Skyward Sword, and have no ambition to. Everything about it paints it as the most oddball 3D Zelda that's inconsistent as hell.

Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask are the best 3D Zeldas for good reasons that are individual to their own.

As far as the typical Zelda formula goes, OoT is perfect. It the best paced and has probably the best main quest in a Zelda game. No real slogs to get through aside from very few tutorial-esque things that makes sense for it's time(which still is nothing compared to the shitty tutorials in following 3D Zeldas). I understand the backlash due to the crazed fandom. It's still an amazing game with a lot of influence and impact. Definitely one of my top 5 games ever.

Majora's Mask was completely different in all the right ways. Probably the tightest, most full of content overworld in a 3D Zelda. A lot to do and it all makes sense to the game while adding to it. Endlessly replayable and uses the time constraints well. The most risky 3D Zelda and it worked.

Everything after has flaws and all that don't bring them quite to the level of those two. TP is definitely the closest and the 3rd best 3D Zelda.

TP would  been the best zelda if not for the barren overworld. Then again skyward is even worse in that aspect.

A Link Between Worlds is the best Zelda since the 64 Zeldas.

No joke, I really do think that.

A Link Between Worlds is the only good Zelda game that's been released this century.   :P

I'll agree with ALBW being the best/most interesting Zelda in a while, with the caveat that its still really piss easy and its attempts at minigames/extra content are either bad or super boring. The baseball minigame...
