Sounds like MGSV is done (like rumors suggested) and Kojima put his foot down about him being done with the series and ready to move on.

To which, I'm sure Konami said "lol, no" and so Kojima finally finally said fuck you guys I'm outta here and quit, and now Konami is being pissy and removing all Kojima's prestige titles to get back at him since the company is about to go down in flames with Kojima gone.

I'm fine with no more mgs, TPP will probably be awesome and it likely brings the story full cycle and the only thing left after it would be MG1&2 modern remakes, but they'll do that without Kojima and they'll probably suck.

i wasn't fond of Peace Walker or Portable Ops either.

either way, this sucks!  on the plus side, Phantom Pain should be huge and ridiculously replayable.

Peace walker was "ehhhh...." at best.

Portable ops was actually rather fun, but I feel the control scheme did not fit well on a hand held.

Peace Walker story was shit, but the gameplay was good fun.  Portable Ops gameplay was kind of weak because of the controls and PSP limits, but the story was enjoyable.

peace walker is fine for a handheld game played in small chunks (aside from the lame boss battles).  it got rid of most detail and experimentation in gameplay to make a very streamlined and simplified version of metal gear.

ground zeroes is good fun and phantom pain building off it is great, but I'm still disappointed we never got a full game made with MGS4 gameplay.

I share the same sentiment that any longtime MGS fan shares, MGS4 was colossal turd that dampened my enjoyment of the franchise. But after Rising, Ground Zeroes, the HD collection, I fell back in love with the franchise. MGSV is looking like a great note to end on, for mainline Metal Gear Solid to end on.

Kojima without Konami will probably be interesting as fuck.

Yeah....K

I liked the one for nintendo (not the second one), the one for PS2 (not the other ones) and that's it.

The story is this game is so goddamn confusing as this point you'd think it was written by Tommy Wiseau.

Holy shit.

Quote

A fallout between Kojima Productions and its owning publisher, Konami, has led to senior staff at the studio being restricted access to corporate internet, emails, and phone, GameSpot understands.

Along with the restricted communications, key developers at the studio, such as Hideo Kojima, will now have limited opportunities to lend their appearance to promotions of the studio’s upcoming game, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Power struggles between Kojima Productions and Konami have led the publisher to make drastic changes, including the employee status of its Metal Gear team. Some senior staff at the studio, including Kojima, now essentially work as contractors, not permanent employees.

The extraordinary measures were revealed by a source within the studio, speaking to GameSpot on the condition of anonymity. The person explained that, once the Phantom Pain project is finished, in all likelihood the management at the studio will disband.

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December," the source claimed.

The person added: "At a team meeting, Mr Kojima explained that team have to be one and make a good game for fans."

So I guess this will be it for Konami.  I mean, what do they have left?  Even key members behind Love Plus quit.

PES 15 was an absolute clusterfuck where the PS4 version had massive framerate issues. The xbone version was 720P  and the PC version was the last gen version mixed with the new gen because "reasons". The "next gen" versions were also looking worse than FIFA 15 and it bombed even in Europe.

Of course.  Kojima runs the studio and is a cool and extremely talented guy.  When he leaves, everyone with half a brain at the company is going with him.  Konami game division is super fucked, who knows if Silent Hills will still come out even.  Might get canned like the last Del Toro game "Insane" when THQ died.

Good news being that if Kojima isn't ready to retire on a beach sipping margeritas for the rest of his life and still wants to make games, just not MGS, he should have plenty of funds and tons of good fellow staff and connections to make games with.  So it's possible we get something cool out of this as gamers and it's a win win for everyone (except MGS fans but there's been enough MGS games by now that are highly replayable so just replay those every few years, and Silent Hill fans but they're used to getting shit on all the time anyhow; remember Book of Memories?).

I'd be surprised if he worked for anyone else.  Dude has to be pretty baller at this point (he was the CEO of the game division for a while wasn't he?), he's got his team & friends, and he could probably get some financial investors to back him opening an independent studio with self-publishing.  At most I can see him teaming with a publisher for physical copy production and sales whatever his new studio makes.

Or he could go to Platinum and hang with them while they either go bankrupt again or become a Legend of Korra style pump out licensed games studio.

No matter where Kojima goes, MGS fans are sure to follow. Him going to Platinum means Platinum will get more console exclusive contracts up the ass potentially. Same goes for any studio that wants him/is willing to pay for him and his team.

Yeah, I really think this is going to kill the new Silent Hill completely.  Shame, as a fan of the series whose still sticking there through every new entry with a new developer that ends up being mediocre, was looking forward to a Japan develop SH again.

To be fair, while I have mad respect for the guy and he's probably my favorite game designer in the industry, "From the Creator of Metal Gear Solid" failed twice already with Boktai and ZoE.  Not really sure how much weight his name will carry outside MGS.

Man, I forgot about ZoE3.  That really sucked when he wanted to go forward with it and kept pushing but Konami wouldn't greenlight it.

All the goodwill that free demo caused instantly vanishing is pretty fucked up. It was an internet sensation, people that weren't Silent Hill fans before were excited by something related to Silent Hill.

Yes, all that goodwill and internet sensation of P.T. may be the only thing that saves it as Konami might feel it's worth funding with whoever they can get since it could be a hit because of P.T.'s reception.  But it's still a gamble and quite ironically (since they make most of their money from Pachinko) Konami doesn't like to gamble on games.

Ya know, I don't know nearly as much about the guy as you all do but it seems as if the last 10 years of his career pretty much went like this:

HK  "I think we should make X, I think the fans will enjoy it"

Konami  "No"

HK  "I think we've milked MG for long enough, let's build a new IP"

Konami "no"

HK  "I need more time to complete X"

Konami "no"

No wonder the fucking guy wants out.

True, but the game environment now is completely different. Nintendo was willing to pay for Bayonetta 2 just cause, something to add to their dire library. Microsoft is paying for Scalebound, while Hideki Kamiya's previous game The Wonderful 101 bombed.

If anything Kojima's legacy has grown since ZoE and Boktai, he's a bigger name now than then.

Like I was watching an interview about MGS 4 and he said that it was a 100+ person team but sometimes it felt like him against a 100+ person team.

Auteurs tend to be bad managers.  It's why in Hollywood, great directors usually are paired with great producers.
