I'm sure the soon to be Konami talent exodus will eventually create the seeds for some great indie stuff down the line. Hell, frigging Treasure had the same origin over two decades ago.
I'm bummed because Konami is one of the few JPN publisher who could, but apparently won't even try to compete for a global audience anymore. They're endemic of the waning Japanese development scene, and they didn't have to be. Namco was sliding down this path themselves and have taken steps to right the ship, they're still relevant, even if they aren't making games that effortlessly sell millions around the world anymore.
Konami has the resources and staff to make games, to make great games, but they won't use them. Their cruel and unnecessary shuttering of Hudson was the bellwether I suppose. They still make games, but Japanese exclusive smartphone games and sports sims (and fine, Winning Eleven) don't do anything to continue the legacy of what was one of the finest gaming brands that ever existed. Its a Lucasarts-esque retraction that's all the more sad because it never needed to happen and continues to frusterate the people who hold out hope that they'll ever get their swing back.
They won't, they don't even want to try.
