That's necessary just to prevent it from sounding like cootermints. Can't hold that against anyone.

Explained the Hebrew origins of the golem to someone who thought it was clever to interrupt a serious discussion about The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by saying "I had to read that in HS, it was boring. Isn't there a Pokemon reference in it or something?"

Wracked my brain trying to figure out why the hell a sharp cat like Bert Reynolds would expose himself by being a general partner instead of a limited one in the Tampa Bay Bandits.

Quote
The Bandits effectively ceased to exist on August 4, 1986--the same day that the league suspended operations--when former player Bret Clark won a $159,980 lien against the team. He'd won an arbitration case for back pay in March. While the decision was reaffirmed in May, the Bandits did not have the funds available. A federal judge ordered that the franchise's remaining assets - including everything from weight-lifting equipment to office furniture to memorabilia from the team store - be confiscated to pay the debt.[11][12]

George Townsend, a Tampa Bay Bandits fan who was the winner of a million dollar giveaway in 1985 is rumoured to have never seen a check. The giveaway was an annuity which was $50.000 a year for 20 years starting in 20 years, which meant Townsend wouldn't have been paid until 2005.

I had a guy like that at one office. I developed a technique where I'd get a glass of water while he talked, but then instead of walking back to my desk, I'd walk to his. He never noticed that I'd delivered him back home before returning to work at my desk in peace.

I've noticed that grief brings out the worst in some people. My wife's aunt went off the deep end after a few deaths in the family. Of course, there's also the possibility that they're were just terrible people and grief has nothing to do with it in this case.

Nah she's a shitty person. After my grandma's funeral the entire immediate family decided to go to dinner. My aunt declined and left with her (adopted) kids. Later that night after dinner we went back to my grandma's retirement home, just to pick up some things and say goodbye again to her friends. When we walked into her place it had been ransacked. Turns out my aunt had come by to raid my grandma's church dresses and furs, which my grandma had wanted to be given to specific people (such as my mom and another aunt). My mom burst out crying when she saw the scene; clothes were thrown around, drawers were taken out, etc.

BTW the item my grandma left me - a picture book of old pictures of her - was still there. So my aunt didn't give a fuck about taking it then, but wants it now. Hell no.

Observed a roadside panhandler with a sign saying "homeless navy veteran" become frustrated at the lack of interest shown in their plight by everyone, then lower their sign in capitulation and I thought to myself, "Knickerbocker, you need to get yourself a face to face with Jonathan Jeremiah Peachum."

Runner up from yesterday: met someone in person who I've known professionally for a long time but I didn't realize it was them at the time because I always address them as Mr. / Ms. So-and-so in emails and everyone called them by their first name (which I knew) and I didn't make the connection. They were interested in meeting me but since I thought I didn't know them my response to the interest was my patented alienating aloofness.

Be such a creature of ceremony that you literally don't associate people with their names, y'all.
