It has been hard to keep these secrets from the community, but we’re excited to announce that we will be hosting a panel at Celebration on April 17th, kicking off at 10:30AM PT, where we will debut the official reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront.

http://starwars.ea.com/news/bringing-the-battle-to-star-wars-celebration

what's exciting is that it's the first game that uses PBR (aside from star citizen), so it is going to look extremely good graphically. Not only that, but it is also rumored to use Photogrammetry.

No lol. EA/Dice does a thing with their BF games where you pay 60 then they ask you for another 50 for 4-5ish map packs and a bunch of skins, bonus xp weekend, exclusive dogtags etc inbetween the map packs.

Except you save $15 on the map packs. Unless you're going to wait a year for the Premium version of Battlefront that they'll surely do like they did BF3/4.

Oh it's not a terrible deal and I bought premium for bf3 but you still can't help feel shitty when you put in this 60 dollar game and they want another 50 from you almost immediately.

I also liked Activision's adding current pop-ups when you start a Call of Duty (all the way back to MW3) telling you about the new ones to buy, and then also all the map-packs. So you have to say "roger that" like three times to get to the main menu.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — The Force isn't merely awakening on the big screen. It's also returning to the video game realm.

"Star Wars: Battlefront" publisher Electronic Arts and Swedish developer DICE showcased their next-generation rendition of the "Star Wars" multiplayer shooter Friday at Star Wars Celebration, the annual fan extravaganza celebrating the sci-fi franchise.

The new iteration of "Battlefront" takes place amid the conflicts of the original film trilogy and is scheduled for release Nov. 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

"Battlefront" will focus on frenzied shoot-outs between up to 40 players portraying Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire forces. In a demonstration of the game's multiplayer mode, a team of jetpack-equipped rebels were shown carving their way through the woodsy Endor while Stormtroopers charged at them on foot, on speeders and within walkers, including a hulking AT-AT war machine.

Other locales teased in game footage included the snowy Hoth, sandy Tatooine and gooey Sullust, a lava-spewing planet referenced in 1983's "Return of the Jedi," as well as many "Star Wars" games and novels, but rarely ever seen. "Battlefront" won't solely be centered on expendable ground troops. The game will reward sharpshooters with the ability to embody such iconic characters as bounty hunter Boba Fett and Sith baddie Darth Vader on the battlefield.

"You can storm in as the Dark Lord himself," said "Battlefront" design director Niklas Fegraeus. "You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well."

The action will also take to the skies with players engaging in dogfights with TIE Fighters, X-wings and the Millennium Falcon, though the developers were coy about how battles would alternate between ground and air combat.

"We wanted it to feel authentic to this universe," said "Battlefront" executive producer Patrick Bach. "You can get into these vehicles, from speeder bikes to X-wings, TIE fighters, AT-STs, AT-ATs. There's a wide range of vehicles that we wanted to realize. The difficulty with a game is that they need to be balanced with the troops on the ground."

"Battlefront" will also include a free downloadable level available two weeks before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters Dec. 18. It's set on Jakku, the battle-scarred desert planet glimpsed in "Force Awakens" teasers. The expansion, dubbed "Battle of Jakku," will explore the moment following "Return of the Jedi" when the New Republic confronted Imperial holdouts on the previously unseen Outer Rim enclave.

"You never get to see it in the new movie, so it was this brilliant opportunity to recreate the Battle of Jakku, which you only see the remnants of in the movie," said Bach. "In the game, you actually get to play the Battle of Jakku. It's the same place from the new movie but 30 years earlier."

The original "Battlefront" was released in 2005 by publisher LucasArts and developer Pandemic Studios. It dispatched with traditional "Star Wars" storytelling in favor of shoot-'em-up action.

The forthcoming "Battlefront," which was first teased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2013, marks the first title in a 10-year deal between the Walt Disney Co. and Electronic Arts Inc. to create new "Star Wars" games.

"We didn't want this to be a normal licensing relationship," said LucasArts digital business vice president Ada Duan at Celebration. "We didn't want them to just make movie games. We wanted a deep partnership to create brand-new experiences."

Additional Info:
-Has two player splitscreen
-It sounds like there isn't a traditional campaign and something more akin to spec-ops from CoD
-Modes vary from 8 players to 40 players
-You can toggle between first and third person
-There's flyable vehicles but no space battles
-The 7 minute demo was on PS4, but there's no mention of the forthcoming trailer platform

According to DICE Producer Craig McLeod, Star Wars: Battlefront will run at 60fps across all three platforms, PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

According to McLeod, “We’re making sure, first and foremost, to ensure it runs at 60 frames per second on everything because that’s what delivers the best gameplay experience.” Alongside the game running at 60fps, it’s clear that graphical fidelity and photo-realism is high on the agenda for DICE.

I guess E3 will be the answer for this. Yeah it looks great but its hard to believe that's what its going to really look like on current gen consoles and supposedly running at 60 fps.

Those canned animations. The scripted "cinematic" camera angles, etc. They know gamers hate that kind of stuff but they still focused the trailer all around it. Not sure what to think.

I think the reality of how bf 4 launched is also leaving some people skeptical.

Well it certainly looked good, but then Vader appeared and it killed whatever interest I had.

I don't want to play as special characters. I just want to play as the regular soldier's on the ground.

What I hated about the last two games was how unbalanced they were. Vehicles were way overpowered and took too much to kill in BF1 and BF2 special characters were cheap as fuck.

Dice is no stranger to unbalanced games as well and this to me just sounds like shit.

I honestly never played the first two battlefront games. But yeah DICE is kinda shit when it comes to balance so I can imagine them getting their hands on special characters and it turning into something annoying.

I was also slightly slightly annoyed to see Patrick Bach up there on stage after his bf horeshit.

Whatever. The game will either deliver or it won't and as we get closer to launch, it will have to stand on its own as a good game rather than relying on the hype train.

What old games am I looking at?

Counter Strike and Team Fortress? Unreal? Games that had actual balance and were really fun to play online against other people?

Or am I looking at the first 2 Battlefront games that were complete shit?

"Fun" is such a pointless argument point. It really means nothing. I have fun online when I play aginst people and can actually win or lose based on how well I play the game. I don't have fun when someone gets in a vehicle or has a hero character because they pre-orderd the game and kills me not based on how well the play, but purely because the mechanics are shitty and unbalanced. No, thats not fun. Plenty of old online games were actually well balanced. So don't give me that shit.

Looks good but I've never played one of these games and I'm not sure how you'll mix up light sabers and x-wings. The biggest problem is I only have an xboxone and if this game is 720P/30fps in order to achieve something in the realm of those visuals then I think I'll just play Halo 5. It'll probably be a few weeks before it's stable to play online so it's not like I was going to pre-order it.

The thing is I don't actually care about the graphics at all. It could look shit and if it was a great playing game that's all that matters. Frame rate matters more to me than graphics anyway. It's just that EA and DICE are known for being deceptive and I think that's where the nerd backlash is coming from in certain quarters.

Especially after stuff like Watchdogs.

Most of the time that's true and I think last call of duty did it right like most multiplatform games where on XBO, it's basically the same game with a fluid 30/60 FPS and  30% less pixels than the PS4 version but then you look at the last couple Battlefield games and they look like a last gen game really. That bothers everyone just a little even if the game plays great.

But Star Wars games are a different thing than your typical online shooters. From Rogue Squadron to the Force Unleashed series, they've always had some pretty basic/janky game play but yet some of the prettiest graphical setpieces of the console generation.

So Dice, Xbox One, and Star Wars? I don't think I'm going to get what I wanted.

It will absolutely be more casual in regards to flying and lots of things. In fact from the battlefield community, the largest attack on it currently is that it is a dumbed down battlefield that will have no legs.

Not saying that is my take, but its very common to hear it in battlefield circles.

I'm not sure what to think. On one hand, I think the game looks great graphically, and sound wise, I still don't have a firm grip on how it actually plays. And I don't like the hero stuff and ship stuff being pick-ups around the map. That works in arena style shooters but not in grounded team based games imo.

It's hard to evaluate this rationally though because pew pew pew lazersounds.

I just really want to blow up AT-ATs, dodgefight Tie Fighters etc.

I don't mind the more casual focus. Not every franchise needs to be some hardcore thing appealing to the most hardcore sweaty try hard selection of gamers out there. I just ultimately want it to be fun and as balanced as a casual style shooter title can be. Dice has been hit or miss in recent years so I'm just hoping this is one of their on spot creations.
