PC and ps4xboxone

Legitimately excited for it, though bringing Jensen back is questionable

Also realizing I'm a huge sucker for that Crysis hold gun to face weapon mod menu

Quote
Set in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution, Adam Jensen returns and joins forces with an Interpol-funded task force aiming to hunt down and capture augmented terrorists in a world that now hates and fears transhumans. Jensen has a new suite of augmentations that allow him to cleverly navigate stealth, combat, and social interactions, but how Jensen chooses to solve every problem is entirely up to you.

At the end of Human Revolution, the Illuminati caused every transhuman to go into a fight-or-flight response and attack anyone near them. In the next issue of Game Informer, you can find out how this event caused humanity to hate and fear those with augmentations.

One of the endings has you

sacrifice yourself, instead of picking which faction gets to control the message to tip the scales in their favour.

Picking an ending at the end always felt tacked on and disconnected from your progress through the game. It never made sense to let players choose, either, since this is still supposed to be a pre-quel to Deus Ex. Whatever impact Jensen's choice had would have been invalidated anyway. No big loss, really.

If they can nail the gunplay/shooting of this then they've got a classic on their hands. Loved HR apart from the boss fights.
from game informer
Quote
Eidos noted fans who played stealthily enjoyed the game more so spent several years iterating on gunplay

yeah, the lethal/loud approach is a weakness of HR.  like how there's no reason to melee kill because it's just a loud melee knockout.

Its pretty neat that Jensen isn't siding with the extremists or revolutionaries outright in that trailer. I imagine there'll be a lot more faction oriented stuff or mechanics in play. You help this group? You get a special augment that can only be granted by that group. You help this group? They won't attack you in their territories on the streets.

Human Revolution's first trailers were way better. The Mankind Divided trailer is good enough though, cuz now we know this shit exists and it doesn't sound like they'll fuck it up.

I actually just finished the mobile game - The Fall - wasnt bad. The levels are super small and theres only about 5 missions overall, but its definitely a portable Human Revolution.

It's $7 right now but I grabbed it when it was on sale.

Even the developers admitted that the boss fights were awful, and the DC of Human Revolution included some tweaks to make them a bit more interesting.

They originally just dropped you in a room with the boss and you had a shootout. The DC add a few little things here and there that you can do outside of combat to distract or kill the boss.

While the Directors Cut had redone bosses and the DLC is integrated into the game, its worse than the original when it comes to technical stuff and visual stuff. On PC at least:

eh those problems are overrated. it's noticeable if you played the original first, as it can give you an uncanny valley type of feeling, but 99% of the game works fine. I do miss the piss filter a lot tho.

Aug discrimination was already hard to believe in HR, now that they lean into it more it's just become cringe worthy.

I've never played any of these games before.

I have Deus EX HR in my Steam library, from a sale 1-2 years back, and am going to finally play it.  I assume I should go with the Director's Cut version.

Is it worth going back and playing the games that came before it?

Yup, just jump into the DC. No reason to play vanilla. The game rewards stealthing, non-lethal takedowns and thorough exploration (with goodies and alternate entrances) a lot more, but you can also run-and-gun if you're not feeling patient.

Deus Ex is a classic. If you end up liking HR, definitely go back and play Deus Ex. It's still up there in terms of player choice. Anything you decide to do at pivotal moments will be acknowledged by the game, without over-promising with a branching narrative only text based games can actually deliver.
Invisible War was massively overshadowed by it's predecessor. It's not trash, and it does some neat things with the narrative, but it's also not essential in any way.
