Don't discount what happens when commentators have to talk about him. When I watched the Long Beach Grand Prix (iirc) someone said something like, "Does Will Power have what it takes?" and it came off as more of a philosophical question about the enduring spirit of life than a question about a person. :foxx

I had a word question for Kara, but have forgotten it. It was something about difference of usage between two seemingly identical terms.

This is going to bother me all day.

Soon after Widmer-Schlumpf's election, the SVP excluded both her and the SVP's other Federal Councillor, Samuel Schmid, from the party group. Schmid, like Widmer-Schlumpf, was a member of the SVP's moderate wing, and the SVP's dominant national wing reckoned them both as traitors. Some SVP members demanded that Widmer-Schlumpf and Schmid be thrown out of the party altogether. However, Swiss parties are legally federations of cantonal parties, and the SVP could not expel them directly. For them to have been expelled, the party's Graubünden and Bern sections, to which Widmer-Schlumpf and Schmid belong respectively, would have had to expel them.

On 2 April 2008 the national SVP leadership called upon Widmer-Schlumpf to resign from the Federal Council at once and to leave the party. When Widmer-Schlumpf declined to do so, the national SVP demanded that that the Graubünden branch expel her. The Graubünden section stood by Widener-Schlumpf, and was expelled from the national SVP on June 1.

gasp such drama

also lol at the two party members they hate being the ones elected to the Federal Council; totally sweet dickbag move by the other parties.

A pre-ban brand of absinthe was called “La Même" which means (amongst other things I believe) “the same” in French.

It allowed for a good hustle, to wit:

Quote
Waiter! another absinthe!
«La Même?»
Yes, the same!
*waiter serves a glass of La Même even though the patron was drinking something else*

Lends new meaning to "dank meme" imo.

Quote
The charms of a Mrs Dodd, who lived at number six Hind Court in Fleet Street, were listed in 1788 as "reared on two pillars of monumental alabaster", continuing: "the symmetry of its parts, its borders enriched with wavering tendrils, its ruby portals, and the tufted grove, that crowns the summit of the mount, all join to invite the guest to enter."

Quote
Miss Clicamp, of number two York Street near Middlesex Hospital, is described as "one of the finest, fattest figures as fully finished for fun and frolick as fertile fancy ever formed ... fortunate for the true lovers of fat, should fate throw them into the possession of such full grown beauties."

Some listings also imply a degree of dissatisfaction on the part of the customer; in the 1773 edition, Miss Dean exhibited "great indifference" while entertaining her client, busying herself by cracking nuts while he was "acting his joys".

this post got me thinking what karakand's latin name would be. i looked up the names that end in -and to get an idea but it turns out Roland, Bertrand, etc. are all German originating words, not Romance. but! kara -> cara comes from carus, which also happens to be the name of a Roman emperor. so there you go.
