I saw that they already announced an extended cut for blu-ray. something about squeezing eighty characters into two and a half hours hurting it.

Yep, because "character balance" is something someone would say is positive in the X-men movies.
They would say it about Days of Future Past especially. A movie where they killed off a huge chunk of the previous cast off screen, introduced characters like Toad for no reason and did nothing with them, had returning characters like Havoc and had them only spout unneeded exposition, had the future X-men do nothing but show up and die, and had to cut one of the more important characters(rogue) to the point of being a cameo appearance.
Yeah they would also sure say the first two movies where an ensemble cast and not the Wolverine show.
Yeah, Bryan Singer know's how to use big casts.
