There's been a lot of talk and consternation lately about immortality. Is it a good idea, bad idea, which if any of the top priorities for humanity from the recent planning offsite can it be made to fall under, etc. Seems one of the biggest concerns is it will just lead to too many old people keeping the ship of society anchored to shore with the weight of their stagnant ideas.
So, here's a new idea to square the circle: psychoanalytic recombination.
What if your soul, or psyche, could be sliced and diced into hundreds of beautiful glimmering soul crystals? What if they were inspired by Carl Jung's classic works of psychoanalytical theory (with a modern cognitive science twist)? What if they could be mixed together with others' - throwing out all the cruft of legacy DNA-based inheritance mechanisms, and embracing a modern higher-level personality regeneration substrate which maintains the continuity of partial individuality while preventing the formation of long-lived monolithic persons and their staleness risks? What if these recombination events took place approximately every three to six weeks?
As a side benefit, this would probably replace most of the current systems around sex, gender, etc., which I never much cared for at all. This is modulo some of the typical base/superstructure complexities but I'll explore those in another post.
Questions? Thoughts? Feelings?
