Bethesda proved themselves when it comes to Fallout 4. Way too early to say if the writing/story/setting is neat, but the gameplay is looking really good. Fallout still feels like its own thing instead of trying to ape things from Skyrim.

Doom looks fun.

Surely they'll have more than just two voices for the PC, I can't imagine they would cheap out there with all the detail they're putting into the game.

I don't normally buy Collector's Editions of games, but I've bought both of the previous FO CEs, and I'll get this one. They always do really cool replicas of in-game items, like the lunchbox and bobblehead in FO3, and the cards/chips for FO:NV.

The only thing I didn't get info I would have liked on the demo was questing/role playing. You have a really a really in depth origin so I'm curious how they'll handle the questing/gameplay, but everyone you knew is dead so maybe this time you'll be more proactive in questing compared to 3.

He catches a lot of hell, but Todd Howard seems like a pretty cool dude. Kotaku used to have this podcast where they took call-ins, and Howard was a guest on one. People were letting him have it about ES and FO stuff (couple of them came off as real assholes), and he pretty much sat there and took it all and answered even the dumb shit I would have  :beli at.

Game looks a lot better in motion too.

DOOM looks ok. Gameplay looks really standard. The melee kills are nice and all but meh

Yeah, the black and white stuff where the "black" stuff is stuff no one with sense would do anyways (example: why bomb Megaton? What do you gain? When you bomb it, literally no one gives a shit anyways). Here's hoping they do better with that this time. Maybe voices will force them to curate more varied situations and role playing. Maybe.

Really don't give two shits about the base building. I want to explore the world not play Horde mode: fallout edition.

Crafting system looks like it could be really fucking cool, but I guess it just depends on how much you can actually customize the base shooting function of your guns. I'm kind of weary after playing BL1 where every gun felt the same for hours and hours.

Best thing imo is the fact that this is coming out so soon. I was fully expecting this to launch November 2016.

Not that I disagree, but it's like, what the fuck were you expecting? It's fucking Doom. This is why it's much better to just fuck everything else, enjoy the fuckery, and not buy what the mass market gaming consumer culture tells you to buy. Find alternative games; they are out there. I found it gross and disgusting too, but I'm not going to say shit because I know that's what that audience wants. :yeshrug Don't like it? Find a new hobby. Speaking of Doom, is there any point in executing enemies versus just blowing them apart? No matter what the enemies dropped ammo and other goodies once they're dead. I'd be fine if the executions don't give you anything extra, but it would be sorta shitty if that mechanic is pointless from the start.

Hating on grotesque violence and gore :ufup

How did you pansies even end up playing videogames? Shit is, has, and always will be violent as fuck.

Eh, that's debatable. Prior to recent gens, violence in games has always been kinda cartoony even when it was really gore-y. It was kinda like Itchy and Scratchy I guess. But the better graphics get the more it will bother people. I don't see the issue. It's why I can't play MK9 or X but never had an issue with MK1-3.

The base building aspect of Fallout 4 is perfect for post game content. On my recent New Vegas playthrough, a melee build with 10 luck combined with the Dead Money DLC helped me amass a huge amount of chips. I've done everything in the game except for the Old World Blues/Lonesome Road DLC and have 25,000 caps on me at all times. I also have the majority of unique melee weapons, looted and bought from traders.

Having a ton of caps or resources and being able to do nothing with either sorta ends a long playthrough. Being able to build anything using resources/caps would lead to really extravagant bases or towns. Being able to raid another person's creation would be rad.

Nah, people saw it as an issue back then. Doom, Mortal Kombat, etc. all had parents shitting themselves back in the day. In that "will somebody please think of the children?!" kind of way. It's nothing new.

I just think it's completely idiotic. It can not be your thing, but it's just entertainment. I for one am a big fan of excessive blood and gore from Horror flicks to old school anime to videogames. Again, it's just entertainment. What harm can it really do on it's own? And most importantly, who the fuck cares?

Just because parents and politicians were making news about game violence back then doesn't mean more realistic graphics won't make people more uncomfortable with video game gore.

I personally don't care. I don't buy those games and I limit the gore in the games I do play to a fault. I found Doom to be disgusting and gross, so it doesn't interest me. But I'm not going to bitch about it because it's fucking Doom. This doesn't make her overall criticisms incorrect it's just that she's a moron, because again, it's bloody Doom.

Personal characterization and role playing will definitely take a hit with voiced player characters. If that was the main draw of Fallout for a person, this new stuff would definitely be a bummer.

Personally though, the role playing bits of Fallout 3 and to a greater extent New Vegas complimented those games rather than make or break those games. I'm the type of person that likes to do most of the shit in a RPG, take a long break, and then do it again using different builds or options.

Also, the player character's backstory is easy as fuck to guess.

You get blown the fuck up, but survive as a wrangled ghoul. A team of people or doctors rescue you a bit after the fallout/war and experiment on you to de-ghoul you, to provide a cure for people that become ghouls. Eventually you're close to being cured and get put into some sort of goo chamber that will finish up the process/let you heal from all the experimentation.

Vault drama happens and you're the only survivor left in the fault. You come out of the goo tube, find ambiguous logs and records of what happened. Something is left behind telling you where to go after the vault is opened, starting the main quest of the game.

As a role player, I think I'm just going to wait it out, wait till the game loses steam and hype, then see how people feel about it. As good as it looks, there's too many variables that could make for a much worse game for what I want from fallout. Which is fine, a part of my apprehension towards 4 to begin with was that I highly doubt it'll top New Vegas. I realize now that I'm not really the target audience here and I'm fine with that. I have alternatives like Witcher 3.

They put you in cryosleep or some shit while things go south.
Your wife and kid are gone, you gotta find them.

This is bethesda writing brehs. This is basically gonna be the flip side of Fallout 3, instead you're the parent looking for the kid or someshit.

When it comes to what dialog choices will be provided, I can only see three or four "main" role playing narratives for the player character.

A. Attempting to make the world like it once was, peaceful suburbia, normalized civilization. The quest to reclaim the past.

B. "Fuck it" attitude. You despise what life has become, all the things you lost. You'll be a huge, evil asshole that wants to ruin the world your own way.

C. Neither of those attitudes apply, you want to do your own thing for the benefit of yourself and maybe some others. You don't want to fix or ruin the world, you just want to make it better for yourself.

New Vegas has a lot of ambiguity when it comes to your role in the Wasteland and the roles of others. I don't see that ambiguity coming back at all.

$10 says you and your family get in, you get knocked out and go into a coma.
They put you in cryosleep or some shit while things go south.
Your wife and kid are gone, you gotta find them.

This is bethesda writing brehs. This is basically gonna be the flip side of Fallout 3, instead you're the parent looking for the kid or someshit.
