The paper doesn't exactly say "liberals" are smarter, it just says that lower IQ's correlate with anti-homosexual, xenophobic, pro-authoritarian, etc. views.

This isn't even a new theory in "either" camp. Hannah Arendt and Hayek both considered in their books that the "less capable" are the dangerous ones caught up in revolutionary movements because intellectuals tend not to last long and generally hold a higher moral code. So once they're shuffled off into a mass grave somewhere, the less savory and more pro-violence consolidate power. People who would rather spend Friday night smashing the windows of Jews or Slavs are probably more likely to be of lower IQs, EQs or other intellectual markers than people who spend their Friday nights writing revolutionary tracts about the Marxist ramifications of cartoon mice exploiting broomsticks for labor nobody reads.

Although my experience is mostly reading medical literature, I now go in looking for what the authors did wrong or what information was not mentioned. Or that the conclusions don't match the stats. Or the stats dont seem to match the raw data.

A lot of them are very academically and financially successful so I would be skeptical that low IQ is the reason they have less progressive views. What does an IQ test really measure that is relevant to stuff like gay marriage?
