If someone watches Naruto and Dragon Ball GT as an adult and enjoys those shows, they're full on weirdos. Dragon Ball Z is shitty overall but it has some cool moments spread throughout, Dragon Ball GT is almost unwatchable.

Naruto? Naruto is one of the most popular brands in the world. :what

That's more an indictment on the world at large than a vindication of people who like Naruto, tho

Naruto? Naruto is one of the most popular brands in the world. :what

Every person I've seen or met that's in love with Naruto has been weirder and more socially stunted than people that watch anime that's slightly more obscure.

 :idont

Like the dudes and chicks that like Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell have more solid reasoning on why they enjoy those shows.

I'm not really in the know when it comes to anime licensing or syndication, but what's the reasoning behind Cartoon Network/Adult Swim not securing lesser known, high quality stuff that's been out for the past twenty years?

Berserk, Great Teacher Onizuka, Monster, English dubs for all of those and yet there's still the same ole shit being peddled.

Because AS tries to go after a specific demographic these days. Anime on tv is dead, so they need to get the otaku filth numbers.

Because no one would watch it.
Also probably licensing on the old shit might be a bitch, lack of dubs, etc.

Thats the one outlier and it's easily explained. Aniplex wants it to be there like the other shows they've pushed. AS mostly has action and shounen shows.

Kill La Kill doesn't have to be a pedo's dream to be gross and utterly disgusting and hot :trash

Q: Hey, let's make an action anime series that stars a girl. Sounds awesome, right?

A: Yeah, but, what about the fanservice? Why can't we see her boobs?

Q: Oh right. It's completely impossible to make an anime starring a girl without turning into sexual :trash

A: Right, it isn't!

Note, that when DC did similar in their New 52 reboot, they were derided arcross the entire comic industry.

When Kill La Kill does it, anime fans excuse it because "I've seen worse" or some other dog shit excuse, when the content within the show is totally disgusting and unwatchable and ruins everything great about it.

The fact that anime fans don't "mind" the fanservice in KLK shows you everything wrong with anime fans. Animation is my number 1 passion. I have even watched My Little Pony just to see what people are talking about, because it's a cartoon and I wanted to see how it's made. I couldn't last 5 episodes of Kill La Kill.

:trash but it's okay because she's 18!

Gungrave
Planetes
Cowboy Bebop
FMA 2003
Death Note
Last Exile
Mushi Shi starter box thing
Great Teacher Onizuka (stolen from me and sold)

Dragon Ball GT (Knew someone who would steal random shit from stores, got the complete boxset for $15, will never watch the fucking thing past the first episode)

Shouldn't there be a prologue stage for people like me? Outside of Berzerk and an anime miniseries Himu suggested, the majority of my animu exposure came through Mizaki films. Castle In The Sky, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away...that's the stage most upstanding citizens start at and never leave.

I gave a good primer earlier:

- Cowboy Bebop (tv series)
- Kenshin :Trust and Betrayal (you've seen this)
- Gundam 0079 Trilogy (movie trilogy)
- Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (tv series)
- Nausicaa (film)
- Hellsing: Ultimate (mini series/ova)
- Perfect Blue (film)
- The Vision of Escaflowne (tv series, also fantasy)
- Akira (film)

Those cover a wide set of bases and depending on how you like them there are suggestions that can be made from there.

I know you love fantasy, and I could easily suggest some really great fantasy anime to you personally.

I'd have a hard time explaining away Kill la Kill to my friends, but I don't really think of myself as a perv for watching it. The fan-service is basically done to the point of parody. I doubt anyone finds it titillating so much as funny.

When I went to NYC for the Miku Expo last year I found a daki of two dudes from that show in Kinokuniya. Was tempted to buy it and bring it home for my wife for the lulz but didn't want to carry it around the city all weekend and then on the bus home. I get a 4 on both of those charts. :uguu

Idk if I'd say it gets bad. It just goes nowhere. Nothing really big has happened in the manga in like six years and dude takes like two years off every other year now.

Same thing happened to Blade of the Immortal but at least Samura had the decency to just put it out it's misery.
