I thought the two huge characters were a neat idea, dunno how they balanced but they couldn't be paired with anyone.
Oh, balance was fucked in that game, but it's a Vs. game so that's kind of the norm. If you watched UMvC3 on the stream tonight and saw all the shit with Zero...that stuff came from TvC. The Lost Planet mech in particular was OP, IIRC. I remember seeing some absolutely stupid shit in tournaments. Playing against those characters was like playing against bosses in a platform game or something. Just didn't work right.
And yeah the online wad doo doo. Hard to motivate myself to get better when there was literally no one locally I could play with and online was mostly a crapshoot.
This too. I got the first version of the game from Japan in 2008 (it had less characters and also one character who didn't make it to Ultimate All-Stars, this weird cartoon genie) and nobody locally wanted to play since they didn't have copies to practice on. It also had no online so it sat on my shelf. This version of the game had individual character themes and mini-games for every character, BTW.
Then they announced Ultimate All-Stars. More characters and online play? Awesome! Got it and found that when I played it on my Japanese Wii...it would match me up with Asian and European players before U.S. players. That sucked. But I was living at home at the time and my folks had a Wii, so I played it on their system...and still had problems finding games. The best way to play with friends was to message each other on PSN or XBL and then load up the Wii. I remember even using XBL to chat with people when we played, lol.
But it died really quickly for me. Sucks that Nintendo still didn't get their shit together with the Wii U too. I hope NX finally has a proper account system, friends lists with messaging/match-making, and all that stuff that should be fucking STANDARD now.
