How is MvC3 top play? Haven't played that game in years. The Ultimate MvC3 thing pissed me off and I dropped that game like a rock.

Why?

A digital upgrade should've been there, but added characters in a fighter is always a good thing. MVC3 needed the SF4 treatment when it came to balancing and adding new characters in every year or every other year.

SF should be pretty soon.  Marvel goes waaaaaay faster than Smash.  SF4 is scheduled for 9:30 PM EST since they'll have a presentation before the matches start...revealing the next SFV character.  But it could be earlier at the rate this is going.

They promised no new discs and all DLC updates, IIRC, then dropped Ultimate like nine months later.  Himu isn't the only one who felt this way.  I know a number of people who felt ripped off and stopped playing after that.  Some say that the reason this happened is because the 2013 earthquake fucked up production and they rushed to get out the update, but that makes no sense to me.  Wouldn't it be easier to get DLC out than getting a disc produced?

Anyway, the biggest problem with Marvel is Marvel.  They made it hard for Capcom to balance the game, add new characters, and even get characters colors set up.  And now with the license gone, nothing can be done.  I really hope that after SFV, Capcom releases a new Vs. game that's either all Capcom characters or with a license whose company will allow for a better game.

Yeahhhhh, fuck Marvel. They're owned by Disney which makes things even worse and limited.

Video game based:

Sega vs Capcom - Sega needs the boost
Namco vs Capcom - sounds excellent
Square Enix vs Capcom - another excellent idea

Capcom Vs. Sega would be pretty rad. Sega characters have so much range that making that game would be self explanatory.

Dante/Vergil/Lady versus Bayonetta, Jeanne, and Rodin?

Namco fighters are all melee focused, don't know of any characters from Soul Caliber, Tekken, ect that have projectiles. Square Enix would be really neat but there isn't that much variety when it comes to usable franchise characters. Would be Final Fantasy mixed with Adam Jensen and Lara Croft  :yuck

SE would be better than Namco.

SE has Parasite Eve (Ada uses guns), Chrono franchise (EVERYONE uses magic in that), Dragon Quest (lots and lots of MAGIC and fireballs and potential for non-traditional characters like a Slime. Slime could be the games Servbot). Mix in the western franchises, Final Fantasy, stuff like Xenogears (mechs), Front Mission (mechs again), stuff like Einhander (2d shooter) and you got a damn nice lineup with probably as much potential if not more than Sega vs Capcom.

It wasn't a month later, but it was within a few months.  Just an absolutely nutso short amount of time later.  Another argument is that all of the added characters in UMvC3 would have been $40 anyway, but it's kind of the principle of the thing.

The SFxTK debacle was A) all of the "DLC" characters being found on the disc, 99% finished and ready to go (people with modded consoles were even using them online) and B) the gems, because originally you could buy gems that made characters  much better.  Some of them were even game-breaking.  The gems were a stupid fucking idea that they nerfed in the 2013 patch, which pretty much fixed the game, but it was way too late by this time.  It's too bad, too, since the game is fun.  I played it quite a bit right up until Ultra came out last year.  Still play it every now and then.

Namco fighters are all melee focused, don't know of any characters from Soul Caliber, Tekken, ect that have projectiles.

Eh, didn't seem to be a problem with SFxTK.  It's easy enough to modify character attacks to suit the games.  Plus if it were a general "Namco" roster it would be more than just Tekken and Soul Calibur characters.  I want to see more than just one company.  Like we already have a game that has Capcom/Sega/Namco...but it's a strategy game.  Make it a fighting game!

Namco would be great. Like, you fight as Pacman and he uses pellets as a projectile. Or the Ridge Racer girl and she attacks with a megaphone and summons cars and shit. Or the dudes from Time Crisis. Or the guys from Point Blank. What about fucking Galaga?

Namco would be a good contender here. They have a great historical line up. Konami would be another fantastic choice: Gradius, Parodius, Suikoden, Metal Gear, Goemon, Silent Hill. :lawd

You make very good points, but for casual fighting game fans, they'll have no clue where most of these characters came from. While the Marvel versus series has had really bizarre marvel characters, the big name heroes have usually been in every Marvel game.

Capcom Vs. Sega would have Sonic and tons of characters or franchises that were heard of, even though they never played the games that had those characters.

But a lot of those characters are huge in Japan. Plus, I don't think most casual fighting fans know SNK fighters and there was Capcom vs SNK so :yeshrug Surely, most gamers have an IDEA of Dragon Quest and those games. Fighting game fans tend to be weeaboos, they'd know.

In the late 90s/early 2000s?  Sure they did.  Capcom Vs. SNK was the dream Vs. match-up game for years.

Now?  Better call it SF Vs. KOF.

There's already Smash.  I'd rather see them do something else.  Like go full-anime and make a Capcom Jump fighting game or something.

What really needs to happen is another Jojo 2D fighter made by capcom.

Although I do like what Namco-Bandai is doing with their upcoming PS4 game.  The new demo is much-improved over the previous one and even has online play.  Not a 2D fighter though.  Not a traditional fighter at all, in fact.  More of an arena brawler.

I hate myself for not getting the original JoJo fighting game on 360 before they took it off the marketplace, was before I started watching the show  :'(

A DBZ Xenoverse styled JoJo game where you create a character and Stand and fight through different what if scenarios throughout the franchise would also be really rad.

I never did get that either, but that's OK since I have it on PS1 and Dreamcast.  The PS1 version is my favorite because it has a story mode added with various minigames.  I have the PS2 JoJo's game that Capcom made too.  It's based on Part V and is a weird single player action game where you run around large areas and fight other stand users.

Real talk: I liked Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom more than Marvel 3, although I was not a fan of the the two huge single characters (Gold Lightan and the Lost Planet mech).  Remove those two and you have an awesome game.  Also put it on a real system where you can actually have lobbies, send messages and easily join friends online and that would help immensely.

Yup.  I missed pretty much all that stuff since I went out for the evening yesterday.  Not sure what the Ultra top 8 is but I believe a number of staples are also out and last year's champ, Luffy (Rose player who used a PS1 controller!) was also eliminated.  Daigo didn't make it in again this year, poor guy.

I thought the two huge characters were a neat idea, dunno how they balanced but they couldn't be paired with anyone.

And yeah the online wad doo doo. Hard to motivate myself to get better when there was literally no one locally I could play with and online was mostly a crapshoot.

Oh, balance was fucked in that game, but it's a Vs. game so that's kind of the norm.  If you watched UMvC3 on the stream tonight and saw all the shit with Zero...that stuff came from TvC.  The Lost Planet mech in particular was OP, IIRC.  I remember seeing some absolutely stupid shit in tournaments.  Playing against those characters was like playing against bosses in a platform game or something.  Just didn't work right.

And yeah the online wad doo doo. Hard to motivate myself to get better when there was literally no one locally I could play with and online was mostly a crapshoot.

This too.  I got the first version of the game from Japan in 2008 (it had less characters and also one character who didn't make it to Ultimate All-Stars, this weird cartoon genie) and nobody locally wanted to play since they didn't have copies to practice on.  It also had no online so it sat on my shelf.  This version of the game had individual character themes and mini-games for every character, BTW.

Then they announced Ultimate All-Stars.  More characters and online play?  Awesome!  Got it and found that when I played it on my Japanese Wii...it would match me up with Asian and European players before U.S. players.  That sucked.  But I was living at home at the time and my folks had a Wii, so I played it on their system...and still had problems finding games.  The best way to play with friends was to message each other on PSN or XBL and then load up the Wii.  I remember even using XBL to chat with people when we played, lol.

But it died really quickly for me.  Sucks that Nintendo still didn't get their shit together with the Wii U too.  I hope NX finally has a proper account system, friends lists with messaging/match-making, and all that stuff that should be fucking STANDARD now.

People like Filipino Champ and Chris G. also didn't make the cut.  I don't think Yipes ever got into top 8.  Could be wrong on that.

I'm rooting for Xian or Gamerbee. Love Xian because of his Poison. :)

Yeah that's pretty much Nintendo online gaming. But it's not so bad. :P What killed it for me was latency, which might have been my fault.

So happy Smash 4 online is doable.
