You'd be surprised. MGS2 really was considered genius by some, like if Kojima the Cervantes of gaming. You'll also find people saying with a straight face he is a progressive writer for women (giving them a gun is apparently the epitome of feminism for nerds). Kojima do have some decent female characters but also a lot of bad ones... And he pretty much applied the tits and ass treatment to all of them at some point.

I really hope his future projects will be the opportunity for him to refocus on game design. I think the pressure and the lack of creative control over him within the worsening shit barrel that is Konami really got to him.

Something I love going through is the game plan from Kojima himself and his cohorts for MGS2. You get to read about things that didn't end up in the game and the vision he had for a next gen game on PS2 hardware, what he wanted MGS2 to be, all that. Tons and tons of info.

I've been getting shit for YEARS calling Kojima a hack, a sub B-Movie level writer who can't design a good video game to save his life. And only now am I vindicated. Only now do his fanboys tears quench my thirst.

Seriously there are nerds out there who think Kojima is one of the best game writers in the industry.

Bluemax, I've wondered about what games you really dig just out of curiosity. As you've said MGS, as a whole franchise, has shit game design. Along with saying Dark Souls is complete shit because of its camera and controls. I'm genuinely curious to what games you like playing.

Jeremy Blaustein was more important than Fukushima when it came to atmosphere and characterization. No matter what localization MGS2 got, it would still be batshit insane and remain really bizarre in every way because of the original script. Blaustein would've made it a lot less awkward when it comes to dialog and pacing though.

MGS3 would've benefited the most from a better localization.
