Still, of all the entertainment industries, video games is probably the easiest one for smaller teams/individuals to make it big in. John Doe in his garage isn't making a movie that makes millions at the box office or wins awards or whatever metric for success you want to use.

Zelda's been shaky for a minute now, they turned Metroid into hot garbage, Mario sells better when it's terribad 2D stuff that would cost $20 if it didn't star plumbers... there's really not much reason to be enthusiastic about most of their first party stuff these days.

Have to agree there, I saw a good deal on a Wii U but then looked which games I wanted to play and outside of Mario Kart and Xenoblade I didn't see anything.

On the N64 and GCN you at least had many AAA games from Nintendo and I loved those systems.

Zelda's been shaky for a minute now, they turned Metroid into hot garbage, Mario sells better when it's terribad 2D stuff that would cost $20 if it didn't star plumbers... there's really not much reason to be enthusiastic about most of their first party stuff these days.

The Wii U entries for Smash and Mario Kart are the best in their series, Splatoon turned out to be a great new IP despite the haters, and their 3DS output (internally developed and third-party developed/published) is stellar.

All the publishers have their ups and down. You can't sit there and tell me Nintendo is doing any worse than say Capcom or Square-Enix over the last gen.

The funny thing is that Nintendo has an opening to do something successful. Imagine if they just released a console that is as powerful as the PS4 or close enough not to matter to anyone but spergs. Decent controller with an optional gimmick, free online, launch with Zelda and some other shit, $350-400 price point, streaming like access to classic games/VC (and maybe some video game documentaries or something), compatible with 3DS.

Sony and MS are about to take a massive L with VR and confuse the market. Why not swoop in and take some market share with the type of console people want - a PS4 with games.

No. This was the post that Nirolak made in the previous Reddit rumor thread before it was closed and redirected to the 10k thread.

I told 10k he could post whatever as long as he contextualized it.  I'll be out for a while anyway, but I just wanted to establish I haven't been doing anything akin to bish checking.

I did suggest he give a general sense of confidence for each in the event some of this doesn't pan out so you're less disappointed, but I didn't require he do so.

I remember refreshing the GAFforums on Weekday mornings, getting tons of new infos about upcoming titles, covers of upcoming titles in america and japan, industry insider interviews, tech infos...

The forum really felt connected to the industry, it really had that insider edge. The gameplay threads were amazing. I remember MAF's thread about Morrowind; it convinced me to buy a freaking xbox with Halo and that game back in the days.

The fact that the last couple of 'insider rumors' threads on the forum turned out to be complete bullshit is certainly not helping the credibility of a so-called nexus of hardcore gamers, enthusiast press, and video game industry developers and publishers.

Nowadays There are more breaking news threads about new burgers available at McDonald in the OT section than actual legit industry threads in the gaming section. I certainly feel that I'm up to date to the newest pepsi flavors and KFC specials.
